You will definitely end up ruining your or your customer’s transmission. This model does not take ATF WS fluid, there is a reason why “FE” is clearly written on the fill plug. It only take CVT-FE fluid. Nothing else! 👎👎👎👎👎

I would have said the same a few years ago, but to my surprise maxlife since mid 2021 says it is "FE" compatible on the back. Still going to use Aisin FE CVT fluid myself but this might not be as bad as it once would be.

Did you really pull the drain plug before the fill plug

Ahhh, astute observation, my good sir. As you alluted to, it is a best practice to ensure you can open the fill port BEFORE opening the drain port. Otherwise, you could get stranded. Great comment!

What do you say if I bought my 2009 Corolla with 72,000 miles and it now has 234,000 miles without ever having changed the transmission fluid, but recently a seal was damaged and it leaked a bit, should I change it or just top it off?

The seal will keep leaking. Add more fluid to top it off, keeping track of the total volume added. When you get to 6-7 quarts the tranny will have gotten used to the newer fluid (build up will be minimal). After that replace the seal, filter, and fluid.
