The best DIY video I've ever seen about ANYTHING. No useless conversation (which always drags the video out longer than it has to be) and no irritating background music (if I wanted music I'd be on KZbin music). Thank you Dan.

My Taurus takes 5.5 as well. I like the 5 quart jug because it makes it much easier to pour the used oil back into it and take it to be recycled.
@TzUuup3 жыл бұрын
Right and usually its alot cheaper than buying 5 1 quart bottles. Dudes being a cheap ass and not wanting to spend 2 bucks on a longer funnel

All you have to do is jack the car up and slide under the front no tire removal required

You probably already bought your flex but to answer your question, it does tell you when oil is getting close to life.

I have learned that wearing surgical style gloves keeps the oil off your hands when removing the oil plug and removing the oil filter. Also, it was hard for you to remove the oil filter. When installing the new oil filter, as soon as the filter touches the filter base only turn another 1/4 turn. The oil filter will not vibrate loose or come off!!This will allow a much easier removal of the filter next time....guaranteed. Thanks for your video.

There is a trick with the 5 quart jug. Invert it! Pour with the handle towards the ground. That way air can flow easily into the bottle as oil flows out and you don’t get that repetitive lugging from the bottle into your funnel.
@DanEdmunds3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's just that a 5 quart jug can be hard to manage in some cases because of the weight. And if you have any left over, you've got a big jug on your shelf.

You guys haven’t obviously done this oil pan, you get more room on the side bolts of the pan by taking the wheel off.

I use a 5qt jug all the time. Although I have a Volvo S60. I've never used a funnel to put oil in it. Although it's a totally different oil filler location. The 5qt jugs are good so long as you have a steady hand

Thank you for the video. It was nice of you to take the time to document that for other people. I'll have to see how it compares to my 2010 when I put Amsoil 25,000 mile/1 year synthetic in it.

Just finished my oil change. BREEZE thanks to your helpful hints! But, of course, no job takes just one trip to the store. There are two different filter types for the 2009 Flex depending on when it was built and none of the manufacturers' sites are at all helpful. We finally found the Purelator PL22500 ($7.99 PepBoys) would fit. We can not use the Fram PH3600 or Motorcraft 400S. Our Flex was built in 7-2009, after the 1-15-2009 switch over.

Great vid, other than you might be putting your filter on too tight. Its only a half turn when it starts to get tight.

Next time use a wratchet type filter cap...much easier than a band type...and also you can use total synthetic oil, I have never understood the use of a blend when full synthetic is so much better...just my opinion..use whatever oil you want
@DanEdmunds4 жыл бұрын
Good points. I had a selection of three oil filter wrenches in my toolbox, and none of them fit. This was a one-off demo (not my Flex), so I didn't feel like buying a wrench because this one, while imperfect, did get the job done. As for the oil, 10 years has passed since then, and synthetic and lower-weight 0W-xx oils are more commonplace. But engines are designed for the oils that are available at the time they were engineered, so I would always follow the recommendations in the manual. Synthetic does cost more, as you well know. I use synthetic in my own vehicles, but in a consumer-facing piece I would never tell someone they MUST use it unless the manual stated that. And at this point in my video channel I was terrified to put myself on camera. You can only get into so many of the nuances with silence and crude graphics.

5 qt jugs are far more economical than individual quarts...and they have measure marks on the side so you don't add too much. I just bought Castrol GTX for $20 a 5 qt. jug. The same oil in individual quarts is $8 a quart, making it literally twice as expensive to do an oil change. It doesn't make it THAT much more convenient.
