So I noticed my 2009 Ram had been repaired under the recall in 2010. I take it to the dealer with what I'm pretty sure is the blend door under the glove box. He says "I'll check and call you." Several hours later he calls and says "ALL FIVE (couldn't be more than 3) actuators were out, it'll be $1000." I had them pick me up and went to the parts store for $28.99 blend door...fixed my self. You saved me $1000, much appreciated.

I am absolutely blown about at how easy this was. Like many others, I had the recall corrected back in 2012 and all was good until last week. They replaced the actuators behind the controls but the one behind the glove box started acting up and left me with no heat for defrost. It took me maybe 10mins for this quick fix. Thanks so much for posting!! This video was truly a blessing and saved me some cash.

Thank you so much for your video. It saved us over $1,100 by creating and sharing your video. We replaced the two actuators with the parts you mentioned. It took 15 minutes to get the parts off. We then opened the actuators and checked the gears. None of the teeth were missing but when we put them back on and they kept clicking so we replaced the two actuators Auto Zone had in stock. After replacing those two, no clicking and HEAT again! :) So happy! The dealership prices the repair at $1,100 to start and they said they would let us know if more was needed. HA!

Thank You
@BigGuyReviews7 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Bowe that’s the sound they make when they have some teeth stripped off. It may also do it on start up when it’s running it’s diagnostic and fully opens and then closes each door to check the tolerances. The only way to know for sure which one it is is to have somebody turn the key while you put your ear close to the location of each actuator and have a good listen

In case no one knows, Dodge issued a recall for this problem. Believe it or not, it's a software issue -- this actuator is computer controlled, and your truck needs a firmware update! So you can replace the actuator or turn that gear around if you want to, but the problem WILL happen again. My 2009 RAM 1500 has 41,000 miles on it and this has happened twice already.
@BigGuyReviews7 жыл бұрын

+Katie Schell hi Katie. Tx for writing. So I'm not a certified mechanic and I'm not sure if there are differences between the 2009/2010 or the 1500/2500. The link I'll post makes it seem as if they're the same however I suggest you do some research to be sure. All of that said, I think the one u need to fix is the LEFT one behind the hvac control knobs. Far left actuator in this pic. You can easily confirm this by listening in that area closely while u switch the controls to defrost. I should also note that mine started clicking a few times before they failed a couple months later. Hope this helps. Feel free to post back with more questions. +Big Guy Reviews not that i know of. @brendaberch95188 жыл бұрын
+Big Guy Reviews sorry ... nearest the glove box.
@BigGuyReviews8 жыл бұрын
If you have a passenger and driver temp setting you have dual zone climate. If not you have single zone. If you only have single zone climate I wouldn't think your issue is a blend door. More likely you are low on refrigerant and the air isn't cool enough to feel cold after it passes thru the dash to get out the driver vent
@joanneburlingame70788 жыл бұрын
I have the exact same issue as Brenda. I do not have dual climate control. Heat comes out of the drivers side and not out of the passenger side for vent, heat and defrost. I do not have the clicking noise just cold air when the heat is turned on. Any ideas?

The FOBIK works everything it is supposed to and sends a signal to truck. Truck does not start, display says 'remote start disabled - system fault'. I get in truck turn the key, it lights up everything, beeps, all dash lights cycle, I can hear the actuators spin, radio and heat come on, wipers and windows work, headlights work, but no crank, nada, zip to the engine. I had a problem a couple years ago and I learned a trick to disconnect pos battery post and tap the post with the terminal 3 times and it reset the computer, did it several times. Now, that does nothing, it's like the battery was never disconnected. I disconnected and left overnight, next day it was still fully powered, as if I never disconnected. Clock, stations all still good?!?! I was like wtf is going on here, man. It's crazy. The previous problem turned out the telescoping rings that sink into the ignition were sticking in the depressed position but still allowing my key to be removed. Shit, I can remove it while I'm driving, lmao. But the remote start fail i've assumed means its not the ignition. Bbaaahhhhh!! lol

Hey no sweat on the timeline. Just reply when ur able. All good. As for the battery - u wanna disconnect the negative side. Not the positive. Try disconnecting that for Ten mins. Turn the key with the battery disconnected. Then reconnect it and see what happens.

Is this what controls your recirculating air vents? Mine don’t seem to close as I smell elements from the outside like smog and smoke.

There is a blend door which controls the recirculating door. You just have to find the right one. There are several
