So I noticed my 2009 Ram had been repaired under the recall in 2010. I take it to the dealer with what I'm pretty sure is the blend door under the glove box. He says "I'll check and call you." Several hours later he calls and says "ALL FIVE (couldn't be more than 3) actuators were out, it'll be $1000." I had them pick me up and went to the parts store for $28.99 blend door...fixed my self. You saved me $1000, much appreciated.

That must be the dealers standard answer because the first time mine went out they told me the exact same story. Ridiculous. Glad our video was able to help. Thx for dropping us a kind comment.

Thanks.. I started to pull apart the dash... it came part way.. but once it really felt like it was gonna break I stopped and did a little more research. Found your video, pulled the glove box.. started the truck and confirmed.. had it out..flipped the broken gear 180... and bam.. I got heat .. You rock!!

I am absolutely blown about at how easy this was. Like many others, I had the recall corrected back in 2012 and all was good until last week. They replaced the actuators behind the controls but the one behind the glove box started acting up and left me with no heat for defrost. It took me maybe 10mins for this quick fix. Thanks so much for posting!! This video was truly a blessing and saved me some cash.

Thank you so much for your video. It saved us over $1,100 by creating and sharing your video. We replaced the two actuators with the parts you mentioned. It took 15 minutes to get the parts off. We then opened the actuators and checked the gears. None of the teeth were missing but when we put them back on and they kept clicking so we replaced the two actuators Auto Zone had in stock. After replacing those two, no clicking and HEAT again! :) So happy! The dealership prices the repair at $1,100 to start and they said they would let us know if more was needed. HA!

You just cost Auto Zone a sale for $30 and Dodge about $500 bucks. Ten minutes and I was done. It would have been faster, but I dropped the top screw and had to find another one. I expect to have to replace it again, but for now it works great. My daughter thanks you also since it is her truck! Thanks from Cypress....Texas.

Thank you for the video. This helped me out so much with my 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. I tried to check the 2 actuators behind the dashboard and they were fine. Then I watched your video and checked the actuator behind the glove compartment and did exactly what you said and no more clicking noise! I'm so happy. I saved money and time.

Thanks so much! I replaced one behind the cup holders about two years ago then I heard clicking again so I replaced the other one behind the cup holders... Well it turned out to be this third one behind the glove box and the big and medium gear were stripped pretty bad. luckily I saved the old ones and was able to make a working actuator from all of them. Hmm, seems like I might have use for a 3d printer in the future... once again, thank you!

Well I put it on all options and comes out on all just not fast and cold now wife did mention on pass. Floor board it was very cold up under the the dash and she felt a cold drip guess it was from the condensation. Right when we pulled up to our hotel it blew out normal and cold. I watched other videos and they replaced one of them behind the knobs due to stripped gears.

Thank you for the video, very informative, I have a question on my 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab when I shut my engine off with all my heat/cool selector switches in the off position I still here that clicking sound that goes on even when my key is removed ? it will last a bit then shut off ? would it be the glove box unit or the unit in the dash ? Thank You
@BigGuyReviews
@BigGuyReviews 7 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Bowe that’s the sound they make when they have some teeth stripped off. It may also do it on start up when it’s running it’s diagnostic and fully opens and then closes each door to check the tolerances. The only way to know for sure which one it is is to have somebody turn the key while you put your ear close to the location of each actuator and have a good listen

Which door does this actuator control? I have a ‘13 Laramie and it isn’t making noise, but I’m not getting much heat. It is warm and the fan is blowing, but it doesn’t really heat up the cab. Wondering if I should just check this actuator or if it could be a blend door and actuator behind the dash.

In case no one knows, Dodge issued a recall for this problem. Believe it or not, it's a software issue -- this actuator is computer controlled, and your truck needs a firmware update! So you can replace the actuator or turn that gear around if you want to, but the problem WILL happen again. My 2009 RAM 1500 has 41,000 miles on it and this has happened twice already.
@BigGuyReviews
@BigGuyReviews 7 жыл бұрын
Ur exactly correct. They did issue a recall. Mine was supposedly fixed and the firmware updated but it stripped out another set of actuators anyway. Great point u submitted tho. Ur right on the money and we appreciate ur post greatly.

So I have a 2010 2500 that is making the same clicking noise, it only clicks three times and then stops and it is only when I switch from the dash vents to the defrost and when the dash vents are engaged when the truck is turned on and off. I'm wondering which actuator needs replacing because heating and cooling both work with no problems. Are there certain functions for each actuator? Thanks for the help!

+Katie Schell hi Katie. Tx for writing. So I'm not a certified mechanic and I'm not sure if there are differences between the 2009/2010 or the 1500/2500. The link I'll post makes it seem as if they're the same however I suggest you do some research to be sure. All of that said, I think the one u need to fix is the LEFT one behind the hvac control knobs. Far left actuator in this pic. You can easily confirm this by listening in that area closely while u switch the controls to defrost. I should also note that mine started clicking a few times before they failed a couple months later. Hope this helps. Feel free to post back with more questions. I'm happy to help. www.google.com/search?q=2009+dodge+ram+blend+door&client=safari&hl=en-us&prmd=svin&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj2y6Cz7sHRAhXETSYKHVrOAfMQ_AUICSgD&biw=1024&bih=672&dpr=2#hl=en-us&tbm=isch&q=2010+dodge+ram+blend+door+replacement&imgrc=WCmBhqVHIXdcnM%3A

You said when you restart the truck air blows out cool but not very strong… What part of the dashboard does the air blow out of? The front vents? The floor vents? The defroster ducts? If u move the temp to a higher setting will the air get warm?

If you have a passenger and driver temp setting you have dual zone climate. If not you have single zone. If you only have single zone climate I wouldn't think your issue is a blend door. More likely you are low on refrigerant and the air isn't cool enough to feel cold after it passes thru the dash to get out the driver vent

I have the exact same issue as Brenda. I do not have dual climate control. Heat comes out of the drivers side and not out of the passenger side for vent, heat and defrost. I do not have the clicking noise just cold air when the heat is turned on. Any ideas?

You can use jumper cables on the starter terminals and directly to ur battery to test it. But that’s not what I’d be checking just yet. It’s more likely the starter solenoid. Or that neutral safety switch. Or the ignition.

Marco Kimassi Hey Marco. Sorry for the delay getting back to you. We are new to this KZbin deal and frankly I didn't know you commented. Please drop me a line at avgguy@bigguyreviews.com. I have a couple of suggestions for you. Number one is making sure you got the right actuator replaced. There are two right there...and another two in a diff. location. Number 2 is...did you replace it with a dorman brand actuator? If so - that could be your problem. They're trash. Honestly you need to replace it with a Mopar product. I had two brand new Dorman units slip gears the instant I installed them. LAME! Hence I learned how to reverse the gears in the old one.

Also I removed the radio while removing the panel on dashboard and now its asking for anti theft code when I fixed that back. But I checked all the truck papers and I could't find the code. Any help ? Thanks for really helpful video

Hey there. I’m sorry but I’m not a mechanic. I don’t own nor have access to a grand caravan. There seems to be a lot of information online however abt ur code. One article says it will clear itself in time if it’s the original radio. Have you searched google for some ideas?

Hi, Np :) yes I have searched and some people say you can buy the code form different sites by providing the serial number. And some people say you can get it from dealership (I will call them on Monday because its weekend) so lets see if they can help me. And for actuator I am gonna open the dashboard below the steering wheel and I think I will have access to actuators from there. Thanks a lot for your time.

I will be doing this to my truck as it is the 3rd time this has happened. the manufacturer needs to go back to the drawing board and use metal gears instead of plastic. problem of stripped gears solved.

Dude. Agreed ...metal gears! So simple yet they can’t seem to get it right. Unreal. Good luck with urs. Thx for watching and for the comment.

I’m not sure why one side would be hot and the other cold if u don’t have dual zone climate control. But we had a Ford Explorer with those symptoms and it was indeed a bad blend door

I recommend that if you replace the whole thing, buy mopar from dodge...its cost the same and better quality...the one from autozone sucks...i replaced 3 from them already

It’s any one of the baffles in ur vehicle’s hvac system which when moved change the direction of airflow. Defrost. Floor. Heat vs air. Recirculate vs fresh. Etc. they run on 1.21 gigawatts and wear Calvin Klein underpants. Ok that last part isn’t true. 😂

@@BigGuyReviews - 1.21 gigawatt underpants, now that sounds like an adventure i'd like to try🤪 hehe.... ahhh I'm glad we're so funny cz I still can't start my Ram😥 I think I'm out of vids on YT, that's why I watched this, thought maybe I could learn a nugget somewhere as I have the exact same truck, even same color.... (nice truck you have, by the way). But alas, the sidewalk is my new best friend. Do u know any other resources I could check out? peace (full power, no crank)

@@BigGuyReviews - Hey. First sorry, I didn't see your reply til now, also thank you for showing interest. And also, perhaps a relevant disclaimer - Mine is not the exact truck as it's a Laramie, w/nav/dvd/ Ok so, nothing more to tell, lol. No, but it has been working fine. The FOBIK works everything it is supposed to and sends a signal to truck. Truck does not start, display says 'remote start disabled - system fault'. I get in truck turn the key, it lights up everything, beeps, all dash lights cycle, I can hear the actuators spin, radio and heat come on, wipers and windows work, headlights work, but no crank, nada, zip to the engine. I had a problem a couple years ago and I learned a trick to disconnect pos battery post and tap the post with the terminal 3 times and it reset the computer, did it several times. Now, that does nothing, it's like the battery was never disconnected. I disconnected and left overnight, next day it was still fully powered, as if I never disconnected. Clock, stations all still good?!?! I was like wtf is going on here, man. It's crazy. The previous problem turned out the telescoping rings that sink into the ignition were sticking in the depressed position but still allowing my key to be removed. Shit, I can remove it while I'm driving, lmao. But the remote start fail i've assumed means its not the ignition. Bbaaahhhhh!! lol

Hey no sweat on the timeline. Just reply when ur able. All good. As for the battery - u wanna disconnect the negative side. Not the positive. Try disconnecting that for Ten mins. Turn the key with the battery disconnected. Then reconnect it and see what happens.
