A family sedan that just wants to play it safe, an appealing price, generous warranty, and smooth ride are some of the reasons why you would buy this vehicle. For those of you looking to add a bit more appeal to your family car would be wise to check out other vehicles on the market.

It's very apparent that the reviewer is very biased against Hyundais and Toyotas and favors Hondas if you watch some of the other videos. This generation of Sonata was actually very reliable and had better reliability than the generation that followed it.

My 2009 has been a great car for me. I bought it with only 3K on it and it now has 132K. Has always been serviced through a dealer (just my preference) and all of the mechanics are in fine working order. Yes, it is a bit slow off the line, but I had a very long commute to work for many years, and this car got me there and through many road trips without fail. I lived in a very snowy part of the US and got around just fine with snow tires. I was unaware that they even made these cars with a stick. I very much like my car and I plan on keeping it until death do us part!

they need to let me do a review. i just traded my dragster (94 blazzer ls conversion stage 2 n.o.s sitting on 295-65 15x10) for a 2009 manual sonata. that's right. i now drive in a comfortable and quiet car and relatively cheaper than something like a chevy cruze or a honda accord Hyundai did a very good job.

As a 2006 Sonata V6 owner, I can agree with much of what he said. The ride is soft and floaty. My previous car was a Celica so it had a much sportier ride which I liked, but overtime the Sonata's comforting ride became a pleasant thing when I started driving people around. The seats are uncomfortable after a while, they are definitely sort of flat. You just have to adjust properly. Visibility is pretty good for a sedan, especially the front. As you can see with this video, the dash is very low so outward frontal visibility is damn good. Never tried the 4 cylinder, but the one saving grace for my car is the 3.3L V6. As this reviewer said, some Hyundai engines are torquey. The V6 has a lot of good low end power which really throw you back in your seat. To give you some perspective on its power, I've beaten an Acura RSX Type-S and kept up with a 2010 Acura TL with a 280hp V6. Not sure why the 3.3L seems a lot faster than its numbers indicate (235hp, 225lb. tq.) but it does make my Sonata feel more sporty when I'm not cruising comfortably. Overall, I would recommend a V6 model of this generation. With the 17 inch wheels as the reviewer said and dual exhaust, it certainly looks far better than this one. And if you just baby it around and drive economically, you can expect an average of 22-24 in mixed driving. You only get a couple more mpgs with the 4 cylinder and that sounds miserable to drive.
@jareds7969
@jareds7969 6 жыл бұрын
You'd be right. I have a 2009 4 cylinder model and it feels like I'm driving a go-kart. Supposedly making 175hp, it's a really slow car. Once you are doing 80MPH on the interstate, the engine has no further power to pass anyone also doing 80MPH. I've almost gotten into a few wrecks because of this. It's got plenty of power at low speeds but at high speeds, there is no power to be had and from the MPG I'm getting, you might as well get a V6.

Kia and Hyundai have been making quick and significant improvements since 2005. I own a 2005-2010 era Kia product [2007 Spectra 5-speed] and it has been flawlessly reliable. I use it for delivering pizza and it has 107,000 kilometers and have owned it since 20,000. It hasn't required anything other than new tires, an alignment, and oil changes *knock on wood*. I decided to take a chance on the Kia because it was very cheap, since it is an unfamiliar model and has a manual transmission.

I haven't personally driven a new Sonata, so I can't speak for that. But I do agree. This car has been one of the most reliable vehicles i've owned yet. I don't understand how the engine bay looks 'dull'. This isn't a performance car. The reviewing style needs to be adjusted to the class of car.

I have a silver 2009 GLS with almost 160k miles and a 5 speed manual. I use it as my daily commuter and for road trips, I can squeeze about 550 miles (highway driving) out of a full tank of gas! I actually enjoy driving this car more than my 300C with a 5.7 HEMI! There was a flaw with the paint process Hyundai used (and denies), it doesn’t rust, but the paint flakes off. My hood looks like hell, but the car is still as tight as a drum. One of the mechanics at the Hyundai service department wanted to buy it from me because of the manual.

I like this gen better than the 6th & 7th gens mostly cause this gen offered a V6. My family & I rented a 2008 Sonata V6 years ago & it was a very pleasant & comfortable car with strong, smooth power from the 3.3L V6. I personally like V6's way more than Turbo 4's cause they sound much better & have better real world performance.

Interesting, the 2005-2008 Sonata 2.4L (like mine) had a much larger engine cover with sound insulation. If you pull it off, it looks very much like the 2009 in this video. Which makes me wonder whether this particular car might be missing the original engine cover, or if it was deleted for 2009.

" honda sucks i had one got rid of it cause of the ride suspension,the weak motor,and the seats are flatter and hard i felt like i was sitting on the cement outside my house" I was agreeing with you up until that point. I'd agree with you there if we were talking about any of the Accords or Civics before 2008. The newer ones are better by a longshot, and the Accords are getting even better. The Civic is still alright, Honda seems to be more about putting cool technology in them rather than making a car that does a good job at being a car. They're always dramatically upgrading the HUD and the infotainment displays, and demoed Android Auto in their 2014 Civic (yet, doesn't seem to be coming until the 2016 release). Nonetheless, they drive way better than you're describing.

Dude i had purchase a 2013 honda civic 2 dr coup that sport model and return it cause of no space no power,and to low the car is an unsafe car and it does not ride better than a hyundai.What u can get in a hyundai these days u cant even get even in a top dollar car honda.I have a turbo sonata and that new honda accord cant even touch that car.The warranty is garbage on all hondas.I have a comfort knowing that if anything goes wrong wiith my car im assured that i wont be wandering if im paying for that.You cant rev up this 4 cyl it has balls for a 4 cyl on the highway and from the jump.Even that GLS you have there its not a bad car it rides like im driving on air.But its a gas safe driving car the one i drove the few days that i had it it gave me 600 miles to the whole tank.I dont even think the hybrid from honda cant even touch that.It had a lot of room for a 4 cylinder front and back the radio i have to say was a little weak but not a bad car.Now the old hondas i think is a way better car than the hyundai back in the 90's.Even the 80's models was not even to bad.You see those cars were durable and worth to purchase just like the old toyota celicas that i still see around til this day.I would to like to see u get into a new civic or honda and u will get the same results of a weak motor.But now technology has gotten better and the honda management find it better to make cheaper and lighter cars than make safe reliable cars.I see that your a honda person but that my point of view this is my second sonata that i bought new and i never look back...

I really don't like direct injection engines. Has a lot of unnecessary comments in this video but if you put the video in Mute will be much better..

LOL what a cheap ass knock off. its like going to family dollar or walbaums and having bounty paper towels and koreas choice paper towels. OVIOUSLY the bounty paper towels (honda accord, passat and camry, and fusion) cost more but holy hell they are so much better. then theres that gritty shit paper towels for cheap. I.E. the sonota.
