Very well done review of a car that's very overlooked. I bought a 2006 GLS V6 just 3 months ago. I am a Nissam guy, owned a 3.5 2003 maxima and own now a 1993 300zx tt. I have been very impressed with my 1 owner 2006 lol

I bought a second hand 2009 sonata gls. i bought at 2021 when it had 198000 kms. Right now, it has 234000 kms and literally had no issues. There was a minor exhaust leak because I ran over a pile of hard snow. I spent 400 dollars for that. apart from that, no issues, good mileage. Underrated brand and underrated model.

Make sure to check the rocker panels, there's a cover covering them up. I don't know how many Sonatas are on the road with all rusted out rockers because of that plastic cover. That's the biggest thing people mistake when buying this car thinking the rust is not that bad for this car.

Really enjoyed your video. Keep up the good work. I just bought a 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2.4L with clean title and 129000 miles for $3300. The previous owner had it for 12 years. This looks like a well taken care of car and interior is in excellent condition. Not sure if paid little bit high but I hope it serves me well.

A few years ago I bought a 2007 V6 sonata with 35.000 km on it nearly in showroom state. Over here in Spain the V6 is rare. Now I have 85.000km on it and the only thing I've done to it is renew the valve cover gasket to protect the alternator. We are very lucky not to have corrosion problems because of the climate. I think your video is spot on, the only difference is I run it on LPG and I think it will keep the engine clean inside. Oil change every 10.000km.

I bought my Sonata new in 2009. It now has 208k miles on it. It’s been a very reliable car with very little maintenance required. I drive it all over CA on many road trips throughout the year from SF to LA. Runs great and I love my car ❤ Thanks for the video. How often do you recommend I ‘blow out’ the engine? Never heard of this before. If you could advise more on this I’d appreciate it.

Wonderful, I’m happy to hear your Hyundai has been treating you well. A good acceleration onto the highway will help clean out carbon deposits in the engine. If you only drive slow speeds around town this can actually cause sludge to build up.

Thanks for the response! I do drive the highway daily so I’ll remember to punch it when I get on the next one ramp. I got new struts and tires this week so it’s feeling like a new (old) car. 😉. Have a great day!

👍🏼👍🏼 Good to know information - and - I've also noticed that there are a LOT of Sonatas out there still running even with the recalls . I didn't know that Blowing out the Engine ( flooring it ) was still a thing with newer cars . It still makes sense though . Got to start doing that with my Sedona 💥💨

Yes run full synthetic oil, it will run smoother and quieter. Also put Liqui Moly fuel conditioner in it once every 12 months and you will notice increase in performance and fuel economy. Bit more expensive than regular injector cleaners but definitely worth it. I bought mine off my brother who knows nothing about cars, got the spark plugs changed and replaced all the filters and it drives like a dream. I get the filters for air, cabin and oil off eBay as its a lot cheaper than auto shops. I change the oil myself as I have time now being retired. Its definitely a sleeper car though .Pulled up at the lights and there is a Mustang revving the motor next to me and he looked at me disparagingly so when the lights turned green I floored it and he was in the rear view mirror until he caught up and flew past me and I kept to the speed limit so old mate gets around the corner and cops are there with the radar .HAHAHA. Love it.

@@scono333 thank you so much for tips. I’ve noticed on the highways how quick it picks up and it’s absolutely one of my favorite things about the car. I have noticed that when driving around town it kinda eats through gas.I want to get into more into doing my own repair like changing my oil and changing the filters. What filters did you get for the car and how do I install them ?? As well as putting in the Liquid Moly what the proper way use injector cleaner??

I just bought a 2004 the previous body style I know I need to check the timing belt I don't know if its original or if it's ever been replaced I can't tell from the service records on Carfax cuz they're not detailed it actually has a lot of service history I bought it for $2,000 and everything works in it absolutely everything I had a few errors most of them were because of an air leak behind the mass air flow which is now fixed and I'm pretty sure my last one is the common PCV valve solenoid thing behind the intake if not it's an actual evap leak but the car runs wonderful and it's cheap parts are cheap and it's easy to work on these cars eventually are going to go up in value because people are going to discover that they're just as reliable as Honda and Toyota but for now if you need a cheap reliable car take a serious look at Hyundai it's worth it Kia you have to do a little bit more research pretty much all the ones that use Hyundai engines are pretty good the brand new ones Hyundai and Kia like 2017 in newer they're having some trouble they're having some problems but most of the 90s 2000s and 2010s are really wonderful cars that you can get for cheap

In my opinion I think the 4 and 6 cylinder NF is the best engines that Hyundai has made after that cane the GDI’s which are completely trash I have a 2.4 2009 with 217k and still going strong easy to work on oil changes every 5k full synthetic, original oil filter , transmission oil change every 35k and that’s how u keep engine and transmission going on and on .

the 2009-2010 v6s are sleepers. I've had an 09 for a while and I love that thing. it's been off the road for a couple of years because I was putting off a plug/coil job. finally got that taken care of and the brakes had gotten a little too rusty and seized up when I took it out for a test drive, so I just replaced the calipers, pads, and rotors on the front. noticed at least 3 of 4 cv boots were torn and leaking grease all over the place. getting the cv axles replaced today. then I have a few leaks to identify. one is a small drip from the oil drain plug, so not a big deal, just need to get a new gasket next oil change most likely. overall it's been a great car. got it from a relative for $2000.
