This is the FULL BROADCAST of the 17th and final round of the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship from Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, NV.
Returning contenders like Supercross rookies Ryan Villopoto, Josh Grant, and Broc Hepler, Tim Ferry, 2007 champ James Stewart, Ivan Tedesco, Andrew Short, Supercross Sophomores Josh Hill and Mike Alessi, Michael Byrne, Davi Millsaps, 2008 Supercross runner-up Kevin Windham, and defending champ Chad Reed battle it out for the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship. This is Ryan Villopoto's rookie season in the Supercross class. Chad Reed runs the number 1 plate in a Supercross season for the first time since Jeremy McGrath in 2001. This race is well known for Chad Reed sending James Stewart off the track in Monster Alley in the hopes of seizing the championship from him, but he doesn't have the luck as James avoids a crash, thus Reed loses the Supercross title to James by just 4 points with a 2nd place finish to Stewart's 3rd.
Returning Supercross Lites contenders like Jake Weimer, Lites Sophomore Dan Reardon, Ryan Morais, Trey Canard, Justin Brayton, Kyle Cunningham, Jason Lawrence, Brett Metcalfe, Lites Sophomores Austin Stroupe and Nico Izzi, Wil Hahn, Lites rookie Blake Wharton, 2003 East champ Branden Jesseman, and divisional champs Ryan Dungey (West) and Christophe Pourcel (East) battle it out for pride, money, and bragging rights for the 2009 Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Supercross Lites Shootout. This is Ryan Dungey's last Supercross on the 250F as he would be advancing to the Supercross class for 2010 and beyond. Watch a battle for the ages between 3 Lites champions -- Pourcel ('09 ESX), Dungey ('09 WSX), and Trey Canard ('08 ESX), which results in an exciting finish down to the wire between the divisional champions.
Enjoy.

Takes me back-was 8 years old when this season was taking place. I was a reed lifer, was very disappointed as a young kid with him losing. I hated James as a kid, when my father and brother were huge fans, because my brother used to ride with him at bithlo back in ‘03-‘04. Needless to say I’ve grown to appreciate what James brought to the table. Dude was gnarly. I miss this era for sure. Got me to where I was on bikes. I qualified for 2 outdoor pro nationals in ‘18. Didn’t get good results, but quite happy to hang my hat on that. Appreciate the upload.

I was 21 myself when this season took place. I still vividly remember watching this on TV and not believing that Chad Reed got put in these circumstances because of one lousy 7th place at Seattle. I've been a Reed fan since he saved me from possibly no longer following the sport in '03. I disliked Stewart myself because of all the reckless incidents he caused to others. I just had a feeling the next one was going to be a career-ender for someone and James wouldn't live with the guilt. Nonetheless, James Stewart did bring a lot to the table indeed with the crash-or-win speed, yes indeed. Lucky you that you qualified for 2 MX races in '18 and that your brother rode with Stewart. You're welcome for the upload. I have races from every season going back to 1997, so hope you'll see those.

I don't even see Stewart on the track. Dungy is such a class act. So is Reed

Reed would rather take Stewart out like he tried to instead of passing him when he had the perfect opportunity, reed is angry because he couldn't beat James bubba Stewart the champion straight up.

He couldn't sit back and do nothing. I commend Chad Reed for doing what he did.

What? The only way Jimbo could win a race was to try and hurt a real pro rider like when he ententionailly jumped on the Goat, cheat with a teammate (as you just witnessed) or just plane take real pros out with no regard. He pulled that reckless crap with Rock in 2006 and I heard Rock say " keep it up and I'll put you in the hospital permanently " nobody wanted to be anywhere near him. Worst rider ever

@@jimhiscott2918 It was moves like those that made me not like James Stewart outright. He's a great rider, and lightning fast, but he was also a real hazard to others when he went super fast. I could see Mike LaRocco telling exactly that to James Stewart about putting him in the hospital permanently.

How did stewart win if he finished behind reed and reed had the red plate
@MathewVsSportsMediaandGames

James Stewart had a 6-point lead in the series and needed a finish of 3rd or better no matter what to win the title -- assuming Chad Reed won the final race. The points structure had it as 25 pts. to the winner, 22 for 2nd, 20 for 3rd, then 18, 16... all the way down to 1 pt. for 20th. Reed finished 2nd behind Villopoto, who was not in contention for the title. Why did Chad Reed have the red plate? This was a time where in Supercross, the defending champ always ran the red plate (and the #1) for the whole season, while in Motocross, they gave the red plate to whomever had the points lead; they changed it to having red plates on the points leader(s) in Supercross in 2012.

Reed had the red plate from 2008 when he won the championship because Stewart didn't race supercross in 2008 that's the only reason he had the #1 plate while always coming in second to Stewart in 2009 , Stewart wins the championship in 2009 and actually Stewart raced outdoors in 2008 and won 24 races out of 24 races and won the championship

I think a lot more people are realizing Stewart was overrated. He was mainly just dangerous for the other riders and dirty. A lot of top guys can go fast but it’s dangerous to do so. We also can’t overlook taking adderal which is literally legal version of meth and makes people more aggressive and “fast”.

Overrated is something I'm a little mixed on. I don't disagree with the "dangerous for other riders" tidbit when you look at the incidents he caused on the track, especially when most of (if not all of) them were 100% preventable. Stewart taking Adderall was likely because of all the hits to the head he took, but it's hard to believe (and sad at the same time) that missed paperwork just about ruined his career.

CHUD ~ Canibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller. A unattractive person whose defining characteristic of their personality is their egotism. Most often used to describe typically one-dimensional preps, chauches, or the like. A particularly mean insult; it should not be taken nor thrown around lightly. [Urban Dictionary]
