Followed your video last night and did the plugs on the wife's car, same model year as this. Thank you so much for your informative video. IMO, this was almost an easier job than doing an oil change on the car. Thanks again!

You should ALWAYS double check the pre-set gap on plugs - they get rattled around pretty good. And you should ALWAYS use a torque wrench to properly seat spark plugs. It doesn't take much to strip threads on an aluminum head.

My 2010 model just went over 60,000 miles. I take it in every 5,000 mile for an oil change and tire rotation. When i made the appointment for service, the service rep told me it was time to change the plugs. They said it was $200.. and I said NO WAY. Those plugs can stay in for another year/15K miles. Thanks for showing how to quickly change.

Glenn Sullivan I have a 2012 that just turned over 100,000 miles, it still has the original plugs in it. It's just now starting to show a need for new plugs. Granted I drive just about 100% highway, but these newer Iridium plugs last a very long time.

I have a 2010 Mazda 6 4cyl that just turned 250,000 miles on the original plugs. Same gas mileage as new. I'm almost afraid to touch them :)

Ngk does not recommend anti seize on their spark plugs. The threads have a special coating on them

I think the OE Gap for that car is .052 and the NGK 4344 come pre gaped at .044 you might want to recheck that

Corrections 1) Do not use thread anti-seize - see: www.jagrepair.com/images/AutoRepairPhotos/NGK_TB-0630111antisieze.pdf 2) Di-electric grease should not touch the metal, conductor parts of the plug. Only the white, ceramic portion of the plug. 3) NGK spec for 14mm plugs - 18 - 21.6 ft-lb of torque going into aluminum heads.

Do you recommend using new upgraded spark plugs that are in the market like fine tip, double iridium spark plugs etc over the factory spec spark plugs ?

Thank You so much for making this video. Any advice if your spark plugs were way over due, and what ever was attached to the spark plug thread in the well, fell down in the piston chamber? My plugs look the same color as yours, but I assume it's not loose rusty metallic material from the thread. Thanks again

Hi Ivan - If it was just anti-seize crud (no longer recommended by NGK) or just general engine area oil/dirt crud I would not worry about. In my opinion is should just get blown out the exhaust valves, thru/burnt by the catalytic converter and then out the tail pipe. If it was metallic you might want to by a cheap bore-scope on Amazon and site the top of the pistons. I guess you could potentially remove with a magnet or some type of mechanical grabber. Overall, I think you are in good shape. Drive on my friend.

You used the boot protector dielectric wrong and may cause problems. It is a insulator and should not be applied to the terminals of the plug and wire. Only the boots!
@superchampable
@superchampable 8 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan A The terminals of the plug and wire need a solid metal on metal connection.. its passing electricity. When you put boot protector on it( now think about this as what it is.. its an INSULATOR) It can and will hinder the connection.
@superchampable
@superchampable 8 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan A Its certainly difficult to not get any on by accident when inserting the boot over the plug. Just make sure not apply the insulator directly to the terminals!

NEVER use anti-seize or any other lubricant on spark plug threads unless you want to over-stress them.

Thanks for the great vid. They said I have a faulty #6 ignition coil. I have a v6 mazda 6, '07. Do the coils just snap off and on? Should I replace them all or is that a waist of money if they aren't faulty now? Should I replace the #6 plug while I'm at it?

@bobgetler4468
@bobgetler4468 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bears, my 2 cents would be no. If the coils are working fine I would leave them alone. I would swap a coil with an OEM coil only if I got a misfire code. Otherwise, you may just be adding a chance for gremins to set in - especially if you use non-OEM coils. Good luck!

This car does not have a fuel filter, well kinda. I looked into it and it is something that is within the fuel tank and it is basically a "sock". I found this out when I was looking into it too.

Grease do not bid. Tightening torque is out of order.
@krgetler
@krgetler 7 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on the grease. My error. Should not be used on electrical contacts. However, torque order comment makes no sense to me. Plugs are completely independent of each other and they do not hold anything together - they just sit in a hole. It does not make any difference what order you screw lightbulbs in a chandelier - one bulb has zero to do with the other.

Sir, you are correct. De-electric grease is a non-conductor and should NOT be used to electrical contacts (eg top of plug). Thank you for pointing this out.

So the threads are fine?
@krgetler
@krgetler 7 жыл бұрын
Ashley, not sure of your question. The auto parts store will lookup the parts and hand you plugs with the correct thread pitch. I would suggest you make sure they hand you pre-gapped plugs so you don't have to mess with adjusting the gap yourself. According to NGK, no spark plug anti-seize should be used. You may want to look up what the manufacturer of your plug recommends.
