I was at this game. Never high fived so many strangers in my life after that last play

The Hawkeyes should have easily won this one. I know they did but they were close to losing to an FCS team, that’s unacceptable!

Back to back blocks is pretty unheard of. But who doesn't have the football IQ to dive on the first block... It's a live ball...

The television announcer says "Nile Kinnick Stadium" WAY too much lol. This was the first Hawkeye Football game I ever watched, and what a game it was! I can't believe nearly ten years have passed since this game; it seems just like yesterday. Hope Iowa can pull off the W against UNI this weekend before Wisconsin comes to town under the lights! Go Hawks!

ehhh why didn't the hawkeyes jump on the ball after the first block? why the hell would they let UNI recover at all?

Kyle Libby the only thing I could think is that he was trying to let the clock run out.

Let the clock run out plus on a missed field goal no matter what down it is usually the opposing team gets the ball. Just thought they were making a smart play

They probably thought the clock was about to run out. Unbeknownst to them in all of the chaos, there ended up being one tick left. Also, if the ball went beyond the line of scrimmage (which it often does), it's Iowa football if any time is remaining. If you'll notice, after the first block, everyone assumed Iowa football with 1 second remaining. No one knew what was going on, and even the officials took time to figure things out. No one was prepared for this situation because it is so rare. Live and learn. Kirk Ferentz will never forget this game.

Because most players don't know the rule. Many think that the defense never needs to fall on a missed field goal to retain possession, but that's only if the block goes beyond the LOS, which most do. That combined with them thinking the clock would run out while celebrating made the Hawks ignore the ball. On another note, it seems like the replays take longer and are much more thorough nowadays. I'm not sure that ball didn't cross the LOS, but it was close. BTN did a horrible job of replaying the most important parts of it, which was the LOS and the clock.
