Pontiac was the make that "built excitement." It's evident with the 2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe with it's many new for 2009 styling cues that begin just past the windscreen/cowl area. Everything from the removeable hard top to the rare Targa soft top option, to the duck tail, stylish glass hatch, and tail lights make this sports car a timeless classic. Slightly fewer than 1,300 of these modern collectibles were built. In this video, we'll take the car on the road and show you the features of the 2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe.
We also love cars from the 1920s and 1930s. We invite you to visit our growing website dedicated to replication of rare parts, engine rebuilding, 1930's supercharger restoration and automotive restoration. customreplicat...

FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH: The resession had nothing to do with the death of PMD of GM. In reality, the kingpin of GM...Chevrolet...had Pontiac in its' "crosshairs" for several decades. The family battle began in 1966. The Pontiac Solstice...if given the support it truly deserved by GM...would have given birth to a very desireable, true American Sport Car platform. But Chevrolet//Head of GM would never again allow one of its' family to create a vehicle that is direct sales competition to its' coveted Corvette. Best regards, Ben

@@duygukayhanisaskank4915this was nothing like a vette and no threat. You are correct about GM axing anything that rivaled it.

@@mikeholland1031 THANKS for reading my commentary & for your considerate reply. The Pontiac Solstice may not have been a "threat" to a C6 Corvette on the street. But it would have been in direct competition with the 'vette in the vicious automotive sales battle. Per the directive from the Boss Daddy of GM...Chevrolet...there will only ever be one "sport car" in the GM line; Corvette. If Pontiac was ever allowed to develop the Solstice as envisioned, it would have certainly taken a significant percentage of the prospective sales market from The Chevrolet Corvette. As The Pontiac GTO did during the 1960s. Best regards, Ben

1. The "hadfull" were 2010 Solstice Coupes were not just "runoff's" from the 2009 production. They were pre-production models built betweek April 21 and May 28 of 2009 and featuring 2010 design changes and new options being added to the carline. They were all sent off to GM Detroit to be placed in the company fleet for evaluation. 2. The rear portion of the Coupe is made from Sheet Molding Compound which is a reinforced composite material, not steel. 3. The Coupe tail light besides being different that the convertible lens wise, also attaches differently to the body of the car. 4. There were 1266 Coupes made. Only 1152 were sequentially numbered. 5. The drivers side seat does have a power adjustment. 6. The Q9Y wheels pictures are not unique to your car. There are others who have made the change, my Coupe 1077 included.

What is wrong with GM? For years they mass produced crappie low quality boring cars....then they design, engineer, produce and manufacture a superb vehicle, styling motor, and quality -everything comes together perfectly....and GM pulls the plug. It's so sad that America with all it's innovative culture always played catch up to Japan and Europe.

Great video, I very happy you took the time to show the features of these beautiful cars! (I have a silver 5 spd manual also) It was fun to watch and I think I could add 2 things. First, what surprised me when I first started looking is that the AC was not standard on these and has proved to be a rarer option than it should have been. Second, there IS a power seat switch on the driver seat, lower front, that raises and lowers the seat. I guess the last thing I would add is how to turn off the traction control and what info the "info" button provides.. THANKS- Bill

When we ordered our coupe we ordered it fully loaded. Ours was the only one allotted to the dealership at the time that we ordered. The dealer had expected that more coupes would arrive on the lot at a later date, but production was cut short. 1,152 of the 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe were ever made (including 956 intended for the U.S. market), and only 781 were the more powerful GXP model. Does not look bad / looks nice. But on close inspection - it's low quality. The interior is really lots of cheap plastic. But the design from a distance is really nice. And folding seats in a 2-seater roadster? And what's with the mudflaps?
@CarzPlus
@CarzPlus 3 жыл бұрын
The leather seats with the red stitching adds a nice contrast and the seats are comfy. While the seats don't fold for the same purpose as in a Mustang, they are adjustable to suit more drivers. The bezel around the instruments and the interior door handles do suffer a bit from a quality standpoint and those interior door handles will need to be replaced someday. We did an instructional video on that topic and it can be viewed in our 2007 Pontiac Solstice playlist. In retrospect additional trim levels with luxury features would have been a good thought.

Awesome video!!! The 4th generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Ams are my favourite cars, but I'd love to have a Solstice hardtop GXP. I've been looking for a well cared for, low milage W68, 98-02 t-top Firebird, but now I'm wondering if I should look for a Solstice GXP coupe. I'll be honest too, I was surprised at how well the Solstice scores on crash tests. Pontiac had such awesome, memorable, aggressive designs. Even the late 90's Grand Prix GTP and Grand Am GT stood out. For those of you who haven't, take a lot at Pontiacs concepts and see how bold they were. GM has Pontiac to thank for a lot. Pontiac designed the 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation fbodies along with the 5th generation Camaro...which was to be America's first retro muscle car, back in 1999 as the GTO. Man, I miss Pontiac.

Yes, that's a bit of an inconvenience and the only way that can be done is to leave the hard top in a safe place, locked in a garage, and then driven on a short day trip. There are some compromises, but I've noticed that the Mazda MX-5 has a tighter fit. I have found each one as comfortable as the other. On the other hand, I know a Mazda salesman who is about 6'4" and he has more trouble with the MX-5 than the Solstice. Neither car is ideal for him. As for me, I do enjoy this ride. WHY? I never understood why manufacturers put removable roof panels on non-convertibles! I mean, people who like open air driving will buy convertibles and people who don't probably do not want the sun on their heads. This is particularly true of cars which started off as a convertible and got a hardtop later in the life cycle. Anyone who deliberately buys a hardtop does not ever want a tan or wind in their hair. They'll rather have no leaks, no noise, no sun, less weight, less complexity, less cost and more rigidity. The one reason I don;t like Corvettes for instance is the removable roof panel. I know that I'll NEVER take it off so I'll rather have a proper headliner, no latches, no seals and a complete passenger cell above me.
@CarzPlus
@CarzPlus 3 жыл бұрын
You've made your case. The coupe gave us three different looks, making it more versatile. Have to admit we've put more miles on the car with the hard top attached. The top basically fits drum tight. The only issue is a little water dropping on my lap after a trip to the car wash.
