The front end even for almost a 10 year old car still looks modern and it has some vibes from the Toyota MR-S Spyder.

I don't think I've ever seen a coupe version of these cars, despite living really close to the factory where these were assembled. As a side note, the GM Boxwood Road factory that the Solstice and the Vue counterpart were made, has been approved for demolition. The 130 acres is being repurposed as a shipping and distribution hub. That plant started in 1947 and ended with this car. Sad ending to the plant and the brand and the erasing of the history too. -Chris

I'd double check those claims about not beating "any" Camaro or Mustang V8's, there are many 4th Gen FBody and Mustangs that the GXP will hang with and beat (especially with the MAF upgrade and a tune). Can pull 13.5-13.8s 1/4 miles with that, hell the stock GXP runs a 14 flat.

A Pontiac-GMC dealer along Rt. 130 near Cranbury, NJ, had three one morning and by the afternoon they were sold. My account isn't strictly anecdotal. I was in the process of buying a Yukon Denali from the dealership and I was in and out of the place three times that day. I asked the sales manager if those coupes had sold that quick and his reply was, "We could have sold 100".

Due to the design and size of the Solstice and the Sky and having the clam shell opening hood, I always referred to them as mini-Vettes. The Saturn Sky's turbocharged version I think was known as the Red Sky. I don't know if Saturn ever came out with a coupe though. There is a firm in West Virginia that converts these into a "Solbra." Some Cobra looking body parts, upgraded suspensions AND Cobra engines. They are definitely cool AND fast. Great vid and yes, you just don't see these. Save the Wave

Absolutely! You know how I Crave my Vettes, but I wouldn't mind having a late model, low mileage Saturn turbocharged Sky. They'd be as much fun, maybe even a little more than Vette, up here in country on some of our nice twisties. Plus, there's enough after-market "stuff" available to individualize them if desired. Like with a C6 ZR1 engine. LOL Braving the Cold, Craving for Warmth and Waving back at you with mittens on. Mainly now to stay warm. :-)

You know, it's that little sports car that GM makes. :-) Alternatively, I'd have to go black. Yeah, after my black resto-modded Vette I swore I'd never go black again, but . . . . well, you fill in the blanks. My Ridgeline is also black. Oh, and boy is that fun to have now that we've entered into "Let's salt and brine every single road up here in NJ" mode. I should just open my own car wash business and own only white cars. LOL

@@MeiZ125 I bought my first Solstice GXP new off the dealer lot. I had it upgraded with the GMPP upgrade to 290bhp and 340 lb/ft. I traded that car in for a 2012 Camaro 1SS LS3. The difference in power to weight between my LS3 and my GXP was just over 1 lb per bhp in favor of the LS3. Almost negligible. With a good aftermarket exhaust alone, that GXP would have had the same power to weight as the LS3. And that's what I'm doing with my current Solstice GXP. 300bhp and 350 lb/ft from those cars is not hard at all. There's a guy who makes LS7 upgraded Sols.

I like this car! Who took over the maintenance for these? Chevy? GM?
@blairbrown48124 жыл бұрын
Too little? Perhaps. Too late? Unquestionably. I would've liked to have a hard-top version of the Solstice. It's a damn shame that GM chickened out before I could've gotten my grubby little paws on one. The one vehicle that might have saved the Pontiac brand,IMO,was the Rageous concept, released in 1997. Because there was nothing quite like it back then and there isn’t one today. It was this weird-looking thing, not quite a station wagon,not quite a minivan,the Rageous was a hatchback with suicide doors and a drop-down tailgate on top of which is sitting this awesome fixed rear wing. Even though overall it looks quite funky,Pontiac should have made this instead of the dreadful Aztek that arrived a couple of years later. Pontiac called it a ‘fiery red sports machine’ and envisioned the performance hatch with practicality in mind by giving it a foldable front passenger seat. The aforementioned drop-down tailgate provided access to a massive 49 cubic feet (1,387 liters) cargo area featuring a washable dirt-resistant rubberized material on the floor to make cleaning a breeze It also had no less than ten net pockets and several U-shaped tie-down hooks to secure the items being transported. All these goodies opened up ‘a whole new world of functionality for a high performance sports car,’ according to interior designer Tim Greig,who added quite a few more aces up its sleeve, such as the head-up display along with a track ball mouse in the steering wheel to control many of the car’s functions. Those four bucket seats weren’t too bad, either. Although peculiar, the Rageous wass in many ways interesting as it tried to be the jack of all trades by offering a high level of practicality and some serious performance to go along the Firebird-like styling. The 5.7-liter engine pushed out 315 horsepower and 335 pound-feet of torque sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The hardware was punchy enough to enable a 0-60 mph (0-96 kph) run in only five and a half seconds. For obvious reasons, the Pontiac Rageous did not make it to the assembly line. I believe that if it had,then enthusiasts would have fled from the dull,predictable minivans that were ubiquitous back then in droves. I believe that the Rageous was an early example of today's crossover, and with that combination of style, performance and,of course,practicality, the Rageous would not only be on sale today but it would be immensely popular for car folks and practical types alike. This,in turn, would have been immensely profitable for GM and we still may have the Pontiac brand(and the Solstice)today.

Because it's a hardtop fastback it lacks the trademark aerofairings behind the seats, yet still has little storage. It doesn't measure up to the original. . GM really should have rolled the Solstice into the Chevy stable. To me it pays homage to the original Corvette, styling-wise. It is truly a shame that this car was cancelled.

If they would have introduced the whole solctice 3 years earlier and offered more powerful engines. It wouldn't have been a little too less a little too late. In my opinion.

GXP's from factory produced 260hp GM even offered a custom tune to bring it up to 290hp and 345ft of torque. All in the car with a curb weight of 2800lbs

Your right it looks like a baby Viper up front. What’s going on at that back window? “Zonk!!” Still, even though the interiorr is PLASTIC, it’s a great option to the Miata’s of the same generation, especially as a coupe vs. a convertible.

Thank you Jorge for your great comments! The rear window is a little odd! lol . Overall I think if Pontiac stayed around these would sell!

I REMEBER SEEING A GUY PULL UP IN A SOLTICE GPX ONE DAY... AND MY JAW DROPPED. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS LOOKING AT, BUT I SURE KNEW I WANTED ONE! NO SOONER WAS i DROOLING, THAN JUST AS QUICK, HE HAD A CROWD AROUND IT. SURE VETS PULLED IN & OUT EVERY DAY, HELL EVERY HOUR... BUT NO ONE HAD EVER SEEN OR OWNED ONE OF THESE? IT WAS LITERALLY ONE OF THE COOLEST LOOKING COUPS I'D EVER SEEN... WHATEVER IT WAS? \ A NIF, A EB OT DAH TI THUOHT IT HAD TO BE A NISSAN? HOW ODD THAT I DON'T REMEMBER EVER EVEN SEEING EVEN ONE COMMERCIAL FOR THE CAR, WTF WAS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE? WHO WAS IN CHARGE OF MARKETING FOR PONTIAC??? SINCE MY BEST FRIEND BOUGHT HIS BRAND NEW, FULLY LOADED, 77 TRANS AM WITH THE W72 PACKAGE, RIGHT OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR, I'D NEVER BEEN SO IMPRESSED. PONTIACS WERE THE CARS i WANTED TO OWN! AND HIS FIREBIRD WAS THE CAR WE DROVE TO HIGH SCHOOL NEARLY EVERY DAY; UNTIL HE GOT HIS FIRST GIRLFRIEND (AND DAMN, SHE WASNT EVEN GOOD LOOKING??) BUT IN 77, WE WERE JUST ABOUT THE COOLEST TWO GUYS YOU COULD EVER BE. I ALSO HAD A BRAND NEW HONDA CB750F, WITH A SMALL FERRING AND CAFE PACKAGE, CHERRY RED, PINSTRIPED, AND A VERY HOT CUSTOM 77 NOVA, BENCH SEATS, AUTO ON THE FLOOR, AIR SHOCKS, 60s & 70 CARLISLES W/RAISED WHITE LETTERS FRONT & BACK, CRAGER RIMS, 4 BARREL, 327, 3/4 CAM, HEADERS, SUNROOF, TELEPHONE STYLE CB RADIO, STEREO,... BUT ALTHO i'D LONG BEEN A CHEVY MAN, INSTANTLY I'D BEEN TRANSFORMED INTO A CONFIRMED PONTIAC WORSHIPPER! SURE i HAD A COUPLE 60s FIREBIRDS, BUT THE FACT IS, THIS TRANS AM WAS THE FINEST EXAMPLE OF HIGH PERFORMACE CRAFTSMANSHIP MICHIGAN HAS LIKELY EVER TOOLED! AND DIALED IN? WHAT AN ENGINE! GOOGLE IT! IN MY BOOK,IN 1977, AS FAR AS STREET LEGAL ENGINES, IT WAS THE FINEST EXAMPLE OF AMERICAN CRAFTMANSHIP I'VE STILL EVER HAD THE PRIVELIDGE TO DRIVE!... OR EVEN CO-PILOT. HOW THE COMPANY WENT UNDER IS BEYOND ME?? IT COULD ONLY BE MARKETING, BECAUSE ONCE YOU SAT IN MOST PONTIACS, THERE WAS NO TURNING BACK. EVERY PONTIAC I'VE EVER OWNED WAS JUST AN INCREDIBLE PRIVELIDGE TO DRIVE, BUT SADLY, THEY WERE CONTINUALLY OVERLOOKED BY THE CONSUMER PUBLIC. BUT THE LAST PONTIAC I EVER OWNED, WAS MY PERHAPS MY 2ND BEST DRIVING EXPERIENCE... MY SOLSTICE... A CAR THAT LITERALLY DREW A CROWD ANYTIME AND ANYWHERE YOU PARKED IT. WTF WAS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? DROVING ONE, YOU LITERALLY DROVE EXCITEMENT! OH, SADLY MY BEST BUD WRAPPED HIS TRANS AM AROUND A TREE, SPREAD EAGLE. BUT WALKED AWAY. BUT HAD HE HAD A BETTER UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF JUST WHAT WAS UNDER THE HOOD, HE WOULD NEVER BEEN SO QUICK TO LET THE iNS CO SCRAP IT. PH MY, THOSE REALLY WERE THE BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE... BRING BACK PONTIAC, SOMEBODY, PLEASE! BUT RESSURECT THE COMPANY THE RIGHT WAY, JUST AS INDIAN DID!
