Great vid mate. I’d be inclined to plug it in so the extension cord goes from the panel to the mppt controller then the controller straight to the box. I’ve heard that it will work more effectively without the voltage drop on the battery side.

Thanks mate, yeah I’ve been doing that now I know 👌

That was really to the point and basic like me ha ha no bs just what it is how to do it and pack up. It was how i would do it if i was out in the bush. Please make more 'how it is' simple basic 'what it is and how to do it videos' please! I've been researching this product and was 95% thinking about buying. After this video I'm 100% off to Kings to purchase!

Hello mate - enjoyed your Vid - answered a few questions I had. I want to do a bit of Off Grid but I don't have a lot of cash to set up Dc to DC and I like the concept of running the Engel off a Solar blanket set up like yours (I am a fan of Kings Gear) when stopped and just through the car ciggy lighter when on the road. Thanks for the tips. Cheers Mitch

Another option if you don't want to do a DC-DC setup is something like the Companion Rover 40AH lithium power pack. It comes with an accessory plug that you can charge off the car while it's running or input for solar panels when you are stopped. It weighs a fraction of a AGM and will run a fridge okay if you don't want to run a bunch of extra lights and such. They retail in the $500 price bracket so it's a little more than a AGM/battery box but still lots cheaper than going a dcdc.

Hi there I've just purchased one today from kings will mppt solar controller charge two Lifepo4 batterys to full charge thanks look forward to hear from you thanks.
@roosadventures Жыл бұрын
Hi Bruce I would just charge one battery at a time to full charge. I’ve never tried to charge two at the same time. You wouldn’t won’t to over load the MPPT controller

Great video! Dumb question- do I need the controller or can I just plug a solar blanket via Anderson plug right up to the battery?
@roosadventures27 күн бұрын
@@lionelbamba5660 thanks mate, you will need the controller, otherwise you will destroy your battery eventually

looks good! what about hooking up the solar panels straight to the cars batteries? im looking at options to run my laptop while im out bush.....so hoping I can use these panels and car batteries to do so? :-)

Thanks mate. I’ve got a new setup now. I will be doing a new video on the upgrade I got now. But to your question you could get a inverter for your setup then you can run a laptop off that. Hope that helps mate
@MrRoFella Жыл бұрын
@@roosadventures yeah - ive got an inverter hard wired from 2nd battery to my overhead console....so was thinkn of hooking up solar panels to car battery and then run laptop off inverter...and hopefully it runs all day?! 🙂

@@MrRoFella yeah you should be fine mate, as long as your getting solar through and you will be fine 👌

you should have been installed the controller as close to the battery as possible to minimize lost of current on a long cable... close means max 30-50cm

Hi mate, has it continued to work well, any issues? I see mixed reviews online
@roosadventures Жыл бұрын
The solar blanket is still good. I have a fixed panel now and will be doing a new video on the new setup. The MPPT controller didn’t last long and I have also got a new battery.
@IB6-UB9 Жыл бұрын
Hey mate, any reason you plugged the into the battery box the way you did or does it not matter which side you come from the solar to the box?? TIA
@roosadventures Жыл бұрын
Hey mate What I did is there is a Anderson plug going in and going out. The cord from the solar I plugged into the Anderson plug in to the one that goes in. The Anderson plug that comes out I plug the fridge into that. Hope that makes sense mate
@IB6-UB9 Жыл бұрын
@@roosadventures cheers for that, wasn't sure there was an in or out. Thought they were both the same on the box.

Just heads up mate... don't really recommend laying that solar blanket on your bonnet...they do get very hot and can damage your paint.

Yeah I don’t have that setup any more and I did get warned about that mate. Looking at doing a full video of our new setup soon
