Another simple video on the removal and replacement of my front brake pads without turning the rotors. This is one of my better videos with better lighting. It's very straightforward. If you have comments or corrections you'd like to make, please do as I am still learning to do tutorials and learning to provide more and better shortcuts to Lexus maintenance.

Thank you!! You saved me a couple of hours of extra work. Never new I could replace front pads without removing the calipers. Just replaced the front brake pads following your KZbin instructions . Amazingly simple and easy. Without your advise I'd definitely start with taking the calipers off. Would feel pretty stupid if I did :). Thanks again!

Hey Bob, great video! Thanks for contributing to the GX community. Can you do a video of you bleeding your brakes and changing the brake fluid? I've always struggled with how to change fluid in the brakes and how to properly bleed them. Thanks!
@GXBOB
@GXBOB 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Veritas, I've never had to bleed my brakes because i have never had to break the brake lines to replace my pads. The only reason i would bleed my brakes is if i introduced foreign air into the system and that is due to opening my brake lines to replace my caliper assembly. But a simple removes and replace of the pads doesn't require bleeding in my opinion. I always check my brake fluid canister and make sure the level is correct after i install the new pads. Other than that, my brake system works perfect w/o bleeding.

Hi Sunil! Yes, i have a specific floorjack that is perfect for the GX460 I am going to pick this up during the labor day sale. Here is a similar one that also has a higher lift point. www.harborfreight.com/automotive/jacks-jack-stands/6-ton-heavy-duty-ratcheting-jack-stands-black-58342.html I will do a video soon about the jack and jackstand but my truck is in the shop having some work done. Thank you for the video, very hard to find videos on gx 460’s! I just bought one two months ago, and the rotors were warped. I had them replaced under warranty and they are warped again only a month after being replaced. Took it back to the dealer and they performed an alignment and replaced the rotors again today. I have no idea what’s causing this, do you have any suggestions? I drive pretty conservatively, like any average driver, so I doubt it’s my driving style, but who knows... (Edit: I detected they were warped because the car would shake under braking at highway speeds. This is what happened with the new rotors replaced a month ago)
@GXBOB
@GXBOB 4 жыл бұрын
For one, your SUV is too large and heavy for your brakes. You're always going to eventually get steering wheel vibrations due to warped (heated) and/or thinning out rotors. I"ve learnt to deal with it. I've gone thru the same ordeal only to accept defeat. Your best bet is to buy slotted cross-drilled rotors which have significantly improved the life of my rotors from getting warped or overheated.

@GXBOB

You want completely free moving pins. This enables your brake pads to slide towards your rotors with ease. A stuck pin will cause steering wheel shudder/vibration. Instead of lubing them up, i would just replace them with a brake hardware kit sold on ebay or Amazon. Fairly cheap.

You got air in your brake line. You may need to bleed your brakes. Unfortunately, i haven't that issue and i don't have a video on it....yet. I would take it to a local mechanic and just have them bleed your brake line. It typically a 2 person job but i hear some folks have a way of just doing it with one. Hey Ben, there is no scheduled brake pad replacement since everybody's driving habits are different. But it is recommended that you check the pads at each oil change (roughly 5k miles) to determine amount of wear. Q: Is there a power bleeder to fit my model, that you or anyone is aware of..? Since my ABS is attached to the side of the reservoir & the master, I believe, is underneath the reservoir (3+" underneath the cowl) - Motive Products says they don't have an adapter for their Power Bleeders' to fit my reservoir filling neck. Q:: do you know of any issues in flushing my brake fluid by the old pump the pedal method ..? Also: I heard you should pull the ABS fuse before flushing the brake system.. Q: Any logic to this pre-cation ? Appreciate you man..

Have my kid pump the brakes, top off my reservoir, move to the next brake. Done. Kept it old fashioned and there’s plenty of KZbin for it. I didn’t bother with fancy gimmicks but if it works for you then great. I might just check up on this power bleed system you’re talking about. Thanks and hopefully someone can add onto this thread.
