@stanislav96084 ай бұрын
Very good, detailed tutoring video. I read that when changing the brake pads on the vehicles with ABS system it is better to open the bleeder screw when compressing the caliper piston. With the ABS system the modules are involved, and it is better not to force the brake fluid in reverse, as it may cause some damage and it might be not in hundreds, but thousands of dollars. I am going to do the job on my RX350 and thinking of opening the bleeding screw before compressing the caliper pistons and let some brake fluid to drain out. It is good to get loose the bleeding screws anyway (every 2 years) before they can get seized. I see in this procedure another advantage - partial replacement of old brake fluid. It is a bit more job, but I can spend as much time as needed just to make sure everything I am doing is for my vehicle's advantage. At the end I just add some brake fluid to the brake reservoir. What are your thoughts, Victor?

Trying to find out which one will last longer. Thanks for replying.
@Viktor_G_Automotive4 ай бұрын
@@stanislav9608 sorry if I misunderstood, in your post you said “brake pad calipers brackets”. The caliper brackets themselves are cast iron. If you meant the hardware/pad supports that inserts into the bracket that the pads slide on, those are most likely stainless steel. We usually don’t replace those unless they are damaged.

With regards to the slider pins with the ' o ring' : does it matter whether they are on the top or bottom slider. I know you're going to say that's why you do one at a time but what do you do if the person before you didn't follow those instructions and MAYBE put them back wrong.I would think they should be the same. ie both on top or both on bottom
@Viktor_G_Automotive Жыл бұрын
On some models the slider pins are different lengths. I can’t recall if this year RX is one of them. If they are the same length, it’s probably not a big deal if you mix them up, but if the are different length, you will run into problems, I’ve seen it happen before.

Great work Viktor...I'm replacing the calipers now on my 2010 RX350, because the piston boots are ripped...would you recommend the replacement?...also, watching this video, I've seen the bleeder loosened to allow brake fluid to escape when compressing the pistons, so as not to force fluid backwards through the system...does sending the fluid back into the reservoir cause any harm to the anti-lock braking system? It seems like a good idea to loosen the bleeder, allow some fluid to escape, then refill the reservoir, eventually sort of flushing some fluid out...what are your thoughts on this? Thanks and great job as always sir.
@Viktor_G_Automotive8 ай бұрын
Thanks! The repair manual does not tell you to loosen the bleed screw, but you can definitely do it if you want, not a bad idea. Pushing the fluid back doesn’t damage anything, provided the fluid is replaced fairly regularly and does not have a bunch of wear particles in it. If the boot is ripped, water can get into the caliper and potentially cause the piston to seize, so it is a good idea to replace it. In practice however, I’ve seen people decline caliper replacement for a torn boot, and they often last for many more years without seizing.

Thank you for the video. One question. In one of the other videos, I saw a lady bled out the brake fluid while pushing piston back. She said it might damage ABS system and cause thousands of dollars damage if not doing so. Is this really necessary?
@Viktor_G_Automotive3 ай бұрын
@@johnthehammer7702 hi, my video follows the factory repair manual, which does not instruct you to bleed the caliper while compressing the piston. You can if you want to, but I’ve not seen damage caused by following the repair manual procedure in the past.

Hi, love your videos and so glad you are back. I was wondering if you also have a video of how to bleed rx450h brakes? I have the annoying "barking" noise when braking at slow speeds. I do not have a video of that, but I can possibly make one someday in the future.
@MrTvsh29 ай бұрын
@@Viktor_G_Automotive , Looking forward to that ;). And you ever encountered this "brake barking" as they call it? Mine is doing it for over a year now and every owner tells me to change the ABS unit. But until now i don't have any errors on the dash and my local toyota dealer told me it's normal and it's just a matter of air in the brake lines. When i changed the brake fluid a few months ago (pressure bleeder, ignition on and brake pedal depressed), it was better for 4-5 months. But now it seems to return. Replacing the abs unit would be the last preferable scenario, especially because changing the fluid helped for a while, which should mean it's not a matter of something being broke inside i assume.
@Viktor_G_Automotive9 ай бұрын
@@MrTvsh2 that barking noise from the actuator is very common on Toyota and Lexus hybrids. Bleeding often fixes it temporarily, but usually to fix it permanently the ABS actuator has to be replaced.

Fantastic video! I have a question: I have a 2020 RX and something very odd happened, I put my car in accessory mode, and then turned off the parking brake, and then put the car in reverse to back it out. Normally, after I hit the brakes a few times they get stiff and it is a bit harder to stop the car, but when I would hit the brakes even just a bit, even just a tap, the car would give me like some sort of power assist, and I heard a winding noise - when I took my foot off the brakes, the car rolled with no noise, and then when I tap the breaks again (ever so lightly) the car instantly gives me assistance somehow, and it slams on the brakes for me. I found this very odd so I recorded, and will post a video with the noise upon request if you have any ideas what this could have been. To make it even crazier, after I started the engine, and then went back in to accessory with the epb off and car in reverse, it acted completely normal (no assistance, no winding noise) the pedal was stiff and the car was “harder” to stop! Any input you have is greatly appreciated. I think the winding noise was coming from front passenger side of engine bay.

@Viktor_G_Automotive Жыл бұрын
Hi, the dust covers are not welded on, they are bolted on. To remove the rear ones, you have to take out the rear hub/bearing assemblies and the rear e-brake components. The bearing can possibly be reused if excessive force was not required to remove it. For the front ones, the hub has to be pressed off the bearing to replace the dust shield, the bearing must be replaced as it gets destroyed in the process. I will have a video of the front coming soon, not sure when I will get a chance to do the rear, but we'll see. Thanks!
