My 2010 Audi A3 8P 1.6 TDI, fitted with the CAYC engine, had a very slight coolant leak and an antifreeze smell from the engine bay. The leak was quite intermittent and seemed most prevalent when the engine was cooling down after a long run and the car would leave a small pool of coolant in the area below the oil filter housing.
The heat cycles of the engine block can, over time, distort the plastic face of the oil filter housing which carries oil and coolant to an oil cooler. The rubber o-rings can degenerate over time and pieces of plastic can break away, causing an oil leak, coolant leak, or if really unlucky, allowing oil/coolant to mix, causing emulsification/mayonnaise like substance in coolant reservoir and under oil filler cap.
In this video I remove the oil filter housing and replace also replenishing the coolant with fresh.
I then carry out an oil change off camera, details of the process are in my Audi A3 service video here: • 2010 Audi A3 8P 1.6TDI...
