you showing the trick with those 4 bolts and an air chisel are a life saver that so many people don't know about and hammer, heat and do all sort of things that you can think of. i can say from my own experience with changing them in mi car i felt stupid now after so many times i ended up cursing at the darn thing for not coming off after blow torch it or air hammer and even the using a sliding hammer and only half of it coming off in best case half of it being stuck in the spindle(i live up north so they corrode like hell from the salt)

Oh yeah man! I’ve had one so stuck once I ended up removing the whole assembly and bringing it to the press lol. Salty winters suck

UK mechanic here, done loads of these. Firstly, if you heat the aluminium leg with a blowlamp (from the wheel side) the hub comes out easier as the aluminium expands at a different rate to the steel bearing housing and it loosens it. Secondly, it's easy to press the drive flange out of the bearing with no special tools. All you do is put the 4 bolts into their threaded holes in the bearing housing so that they screw in and press the back of the hub flange and force it out of the bearing as you tighten the bolts evenly. The only problem is that you need to put some packing in as the bolts aren't quite long enough to push it out, also you want to distribute the load on the back of the drive flange to avoid damage. You could use anything suitable, even wood, but I use a spanner 'handle' part across the back of the flange so that the bolts press on the spanner as you tighten them and push the hub flange out of the bearing on the bench. Never fails, and the new bearing comes with new bolts anyway.

Could you use a gear puller for the hub?

You could probably find a way to do it like that but the inner race will likely stay on the hub and need to be cut, torched or pressed off, if I was trying to do the job at home I’d probably buy a bearing with a new hub already installed if I could find one

@@EuropeanAutoRepair I had bought the assembly but it came unpressed also the old assembly came off as a unit. My first time doing it solo. I figured I had to unbolt the bearing from the hub.

Im having issue with my 2009 audi a4 quattro. I did a rear wheel bearing and it wasn't this easy. I couldn't get to bottom bolts with out removing the cv axle. Issue is after installing everything my ABS Speed sensor does not pick up anymore. Looked like the bearing is sitting to deep inside the sensor hole. Ever run into that issue?

Did you use a 19mm or a 15mm? I need to replace my wheel bearing on my 2009 Audi s5 and there’s those two options and not sure which one to get

Are you asking about the allen bolt for the axle?

@UptownFights if by accident you pressed the bearing the wrong way(with the magnet towards you instead of the axle and the abs sensor) that might be a cause. or you might have put grease on the abs sensor or it just broke when you installed the new hub/bearing. it's fairly common

I’ve seen that before on some models, my bud did that on a 911 once, with these particular audis you can’t reallly do that the way the wheel bearing and housing are a assembly
