Lighten up about the dirt guys, they're playing for the crowd entering the Rose Bowl, people who know nothing about DCI. If they played with normal "lot" etiquette and not jam out, the crowd wouldn't enjoy it as much. Usually on these non competition days we try to have some fun once in a while

The top secret drum corps just through their sticks around and make it look cool. I could play any of their music with my right hand tied behind my back. It takes talent to be able to go up, play hard music, march hard drill, and make it look effortless (which I think is much cooler than any stick toss), which is what the Blue Devils strive for.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was in the Blue Devils years ago (80's) and we were tough to beat. We didnt do that much dancing and played great music and the precision was what kept it all together. I think there are alot of tough competetion now days, so they have to try to keep up and be more creative, but theres a limit. Too much creativity can be a disaster. Sometimes its best to keep it simple and nice.

IBTwist Yeah, because that's an excuse to play like garbage? Not even June, but July? Sorry, not buying it. They were not bad, but they were NOT good - which they more than made up for the following years. This was without a doubt one of the worst years for percussion for Devs, ranking down there with 2002.

Yeah, I think they perhaps let their heads get the better of them, especially after winning Best Percussion the summer before, not to mention their 2010 show on its way to winning another Gold medal. It's always disappointing to see a 1st place corps' drumline not live up to the standard of the rest of the corps, especially during a year where the 6th place corps' drumline (Phantom Regiment) wins 1st in percussion.

@@showb4theshow Turns out that after Blue Devils were done using them, my high school bought all the drums and used them from 2011 to 2020. Once we got new drums last year, it left these relics in storage. I asked the band director if I could get a Blue Devils 2010 Snare and Tenor and he sold em both to me for 300 bucks! The blue devils are always very talented and are simply the best of the best! Yea they win a lot- again very talented, some of the best. Enough hate on them all ready.

Sean Bowers my only problem with bd is the music writing for the hornline manages to be boring, and the drumline book sounds the same every year, but other than that they're really good.

I could be wrong, but I don’t necessarily think that it was dirty, and more that the camera’s mic couldn’t handle how loud it was and that made it sound fuzzy.

Camera audio wasn't the best due to placement but it was still definitely over hyped which caused the dirt. The non Drum Corps folks that were there dug it though, which is all that truly mattered for this show.

drum corps is a style of marching band hints the corps portion of the word drum corps that means they roll step and play in an military like form where as there is high step bands which are more of show style band they both are styles of bands that people enjoy and have fun showing there talents to the world they both have drum line's and wind or brass instruments sometimes even both but different people enjoy different bands so drum corps is entitled to and is included in the band category

Yea, that's why they win most of the time. The shows aren't that interesting, but, heck, some of the hardest music I've ever seen and they play it really cleanly too. They just shove as many notes down the judges' throats as possible and get a really high score. Not a bad corps, they are very talented, but not a big fan of their newer shows. Love their older ones though. 1999 was awesome.

Well only people who age out tend to hate it. And i see your point too. I know you do WGI and what not but it's what i call an paid experience. Either you pay and get a good experience or you're gonna get a bad one. 95% or higher it's a good experience. It's why i want to do Corp and Indoor atleast once. Would be nice to play at this level and have a wonderful experience. I see DCI as proffessionals but not proffessioals. You see what i'm talking about. Or the vets as pros.

Hey, first off. They are a marching band, they're an ensemble of instruments with percussion that marches. Secondly if you haven't marched, then you shouldn't even act like you can elaborate on the topic. We don't care if we're called a marching band, in fact any time someone complains about it, it's someone who's never marched. Third, the music for parades or performances are practiced and memorized in an hour max, no time to sound good when we're perfecting our 13 minute shows.

watch the video again....and listen to 00:55 - 00:57.....the quality goes from really awesome with the beginning Tenor solo, then the snares come in and it gets iffy...and then that section that I mentioned is where it gets AWFUL. Learning to hear clean vs. dirty can be hard at first...but once you get it you'll be just as appalled as the rest of us are at this hahaha

Fourth, it's okay to cut loose and be dirty, DCI isn't about perfection it's about the experience to. There would be no point in DCI if it wasn't fun. Yeah we can do it for the rings, but that's an added bonus. Last, We put in so much time into our shows, not some random performance we're getting paid for. We have very few performances/parades a year. it's not worth the effort to get parade tunes/beats clean.

actually no. they are a Drum and Bugle Corps. A marching band is on the high school to college level and includes woodwinds in their ensemble. DCI is the best of the best when it comes to marching... now before you get all butthurt on "oh you prolly never marched", I have marched WGI percussion, Green Thunder. Which is under the Cavaliers' wing... who just so happens to be a Drum and Bugle Corps. And no, the performance music isn't learned and memorized in an hour, its the whole summer.

Yea but that wasnt even the performance they get judged on or anything. It seemed like that was just something to enjoy for the crowd, something they dont play that often. You can see how relaxed they are, that doesnt mean they werent trying to be clean, just that it was a moment of excitement between the crowd and the performers.

July is not early in the season... World Class groups usually start in the middle of May with spring training... regardless of the time of the season, the part they dirtied was just a 16th note roll... a decent high school line should be able to play that clean from day one. However........ it's the fourth of July, so they're probably not warming up for a show it's probably just the end of some parade so they're probably just having too much fun.
