Just fixed my mom's, looked similar to this burn marks and all. Her metal pins were bent way off mark, cleaned them up and put them back (as close as I could eyeball it) and now it's blowing in all settings again. Thank you for this!

Wow.... mine had smoke coming out of it a year ago and then stopped... here we are and now no blower motor.... I will follow this excellent instructions ....!!

Purple scotch brite. Maybe 500.

Well a rheostat would have different resistance baked into this one enclosure. This is more like a convoluted switch for the different channels of the blower resistor next to the blower. A potentiometer varys much lower amperages and would let the magic smoke out instantly at 30amps lol.
