Pete Sampras was a genius player underrated because he wasnt a show pony. His charity revolves around cancer. He beat Andre in 2002 before Pete retired. And all remember what pay and endorsements are now. I saw Pete playing on a back court in Sydney -doubles - and never had seen him before but knew immediately he would go on to be a true champion. and had no ego - just played - a master game.

There was nothing hilarious about petes joke, which was imitating andres walk and mannerisms, which borders on making fun. People can get real embarrassed by that. That was a personal attack on andre. All andre did was poke fun at pete for 'not tipping' and somehow people think that was more personal?? Im sorry but thats nonsense. Andre did not poke fun at petes appearance or mannerisms. It was pete who turned things ugly. Not andre. I know why people take petes side though. Its cowardice. Pete has won more slams and is seen as the better player. Therefore his 'status' allowed him to get away with something an ordinary person would not have been allowed to get away with. Put yourself in the situation. Imagine you had andres walk and also did not tip like sampras doesnt tip. If someone were to choose one thing to make fun of you in public, would you rather them make fun of you for not tipping or your actual walk?? I know i would choose not tipping. Agassi feels the pressure to make it entertaining bc the other 3 (no offense) are not comedians. Especially Pete and rafa. It is an exhibition after all and meant to be funny and entertaining. Andre saved this match in my opinion

@evelynnahsahahaahaha2 ай бұрын
@@bubufubu dont you think agassi provoked that reaction tho?
@bubufubu2 ай бұрын
@@evelynnahsahahaahaha No, I don't. I think his comment was purely innocuous and Sampras let it bother him. Watch his face right after Agassi says it. Then, listen to his voice when he says "Okay, Andre". He took it the wrong way and then acted like a jerk in response. Agassi pulling out his pockets was in poor taste, but Sampras asked for it. He was bitter over Agassi playfully saying that he got serious, pushed his impersonation too far and for too long, and then he aggressively provoked Agassi at the 48:37 mark. To leave absolutely no doubt about his judgment being out of whack, Sampras then serves the ball right at Agassi at 49:26. He almost hits him, thus proving Agassi right. Too serious, especially for an exhibition match for charity.

I was really into tennis as a kid growing up in the 90s, and I cannot tell you how much I miss the days when Agassi and Sampras were dominating. As an American, its really sad to see how far tennis has fallen in my country over the past decade and a half. As far as Agassi going too far in some of his comments, yeah, he maybe did, but if you watch this, AGASSI WAS THE SHOW. Its not like this event was a pure tennis event. The crowd paid for their tickets to hear some interesting banter, and without Andre, this match would have been a BOREFEST. I love Pete, but the guy was never the most charismatic of players, and Nadal, god bless him, really couldn't add much more than a smile other than hitting the tennis ball. Federer was funny, but Andre carried this event. P.S. LOVED the tipping comment!!!

Yeah I heard about the bad tipper remark, he just beat it to death, no class whatsoever. I was so disappointed as he was still looking great performance wise but just a really shitty human being. Notice his face when Sampras said “do you want to do skeletons” He was nervous AF

I thought Pete was being unbearable. Pete has zero sense of humor, no charisma, a stick in the mud and a cheapskate. At least Agassi admitted his flaws, Pete got upset about his. That’s says a lot about a man.

@@ChrisJones-vb5je interesting perspective man, thanks for sharing. I’m a Brit, so only had limited experience. I worked at Wimbledon in the late 90’s as I was a stringer and coach. Never had any issue, but I was young and idolised PS. It’s so long ago I can’t have a realistic feeling. That said, I’d still KILL to have Pete’s serve and ground strokes. I don’t think I recovered from seeing (on TV) Pete break when he was 2 sets down to Jim Courier at the Aus Open when Tim Gullickson was diagnosed. Really humanity and raw.

I think Agassi is a genuinely nice and funny guy, and this is why he has so many fans and gets the biggest cheers! I don't think Agassi is looking for attention it is who he is and without him this would have been a silent snooze fest other then the playing! Pete is uber serious but I do like how competitive he is! Roger is a cool dude and a beat along with Nadal who is dealing with a language barrier. All beasts and legends, fun match!

A few years late... but! In fairness to Sampras, Agassi acted like a jerk bringing out that tipping jibe. Sampras also spoke very kindly about Andre at the end while Agassi just put on some stupid fake smile.
