Very clever to use original speaker as MDF spacer, saves ton of money. I would not be replacing speakers if I had to buy those.Thank you !

Thanks for the tip for cutting the spacer off the original speaker. Saved me money and time over ordering some off the web!

An easy way to trim the lip off (vs. belt sander, which I didn't have): Before cutting the center out, scrape it on a sidewalk or concrete driveway or curb. It will quickly and easily take that lip off. Then cut the center part out with the jig saw. Also, I used 1.5" #10 screws. Worked like a champ!

love the tutorial, but I did get a chuckle out of you having a hard time with the screw, even for a younger guy with smaller hands, I struggle to get that one out too.

I basically built my speakers out with 2-3 washers on each screw. Maybe I’m a dummy but it works!

The less tools you use the better, most cars I can pull that stuff off with my bare hands, but I've got 35+ years exp. Never work on a cold car out in the winter if the outside temperature is below 25 the plastic becomes really brittle and any pressure will cause it to break. You want at least 60dgr F. Or above. Over 90 it can start to be too soft and you can stretch it out of shape or the factory glues are soften too much. A lot of GMs had the door skins glued on outside the car, almost all the saturns were made this way. As well as the ta Firebirds and cameros of that era.

Good video. Helped me do the same thing on my car, using the old speakers as fabrication, soldering the wires onto the old speakers

Love the tutorial, I'm preparing to do the same thing soon to my Mazda. Though, I'm interested in knowing if a 6x8 speaker fits in the back as well as the front, because as far as I've seen, you can fit them in the front. Would be great help to know for sure from someone who has experience in it.

Best Buy says I need to use bass blocker for the front speakers, you think it is necessary? i have the non-Bose system. I noticed the sound is lower than the rear is that suppose to be the case? I thinking maybe that is why the sound is lower in the front. Are the rear stock the same as the front? thank you for the video!!!

Thanks for this - I wonder if those Polks would sound better than the bose speakers? I find the bose system pretty poor, so the stock system must sound terrible!

Thanks for this post brad, I need to change out mine. Front driver is done. Are the front the same as the back? As in the process I would take? Probably buy some speakers and do the project in a few weeks.

+Evan B Did you just stick with the stock radio console? or did you add an amp?
@davidsix89078 жыл бұрын
I just bought some JL audio speakers. They're a little bit more pricey than these but fit right in the front doors. I only had to use the plastic surround provided with the speaker.
@evanb52908 жыл бұрын
+David Six thanks David, did you use your JLs all around then? 4?
@davidsix89078 жыл бұрын
+Evan B Not yet. Only the fronts. Like I said they're pricey, but sound great. I'm actually working on getting my Mazda fixed this week. So $ Ran over a semi tire on the way home from the dealer :/

Utilicé la misma base, solo que los altavoces de auto eran Bose pero reemplazo por JBL de 6 pulgadas de 2 vías. Tengo un problema y es que cuando llueve cae agua por detrás de los altavoces

Thanks for this video! Put an end to my frustration in trying to find harnesses and speaker wire schematics that didn't seem to match my car. Hadn't thought of this trick which basically gives me a spacer and wire harness in one. I took the screw I removed from the stock speaker bracket to home depot, and the guy at home depot picked out a #6 screw as a match, and gave me a 1 1/2 length. Hopefully that works out ok. Any reason you went with a #10?

Nice vid. Just curious to why you wouldn't buy speakers that fit out of the box? Thanks man
@bmmlmm8 жыл бұрын
You can but the selection is very limited. You will also end up with a large air gap between the door panel and the speaker if you don't shim them out.

What size are the stock speakers on the front doors?
@marcusjones34947 жыл бұрын
Jarod Clarke 5x7 but I nodded the door to hold 3 8s per front door and the back also now has an 8 in the factory spot

I ended up adding an amp to these speakers and adding baffles behind them to help increase mid bass. All in All these are not may favorite speakers. I feel like they really lack mid bass. You might give Alpine or Infinity a try.
@channelkerr7 жыл бұрын
Brad Molen thanks for the update. Can you recommend any specific models? My Mazda seems weak in the mids already so I will avoid using those Polks.

@hmmmyes69346 ай бұрын
I think it's mainly for the front, but it does help using the old ones as a bracket, because it helps with the air gap between the speaker and speaker grill that's created otherwise
