As it has 8 cylinders it will have 8 gas injectors. So that's less than 70hp per injector. I have done 100hp per injector on Lpg on a 5 cylinder Audi with capacity left. Power feels the same. It's just on Lpg when coming out of tight bends real hard, the gas can slosh about in the tank as they arnt baffled, and it then switches to petrol. Not a big issue.

LPG is over 100 Octane and actually gives a circa 5% increase in power. I have a W211 E55 AMG converted to LPG. The limiting factor is pressure in the LPG tank, after a few spirited accelerations it will switch to petrol until the pressure builds. Mine can supply circa 450bhp from LPG but is mapped to top this up with petrol when I floor it and ask for full power. Currently running circa 605bhp.

Brutaleon More like 12 litres but it depends on how cheap the fuel is really. Where I live, LPG is around 55% less expensive than Petrol, factor in the 15-20% fuel efficiency delta you're looking at around 40% lower costs than Petrol, which is of course 60% of the cost of Petrol, 60% of 20 ergo the equivalent cost of ~12l/100k. But of course your point is still correct, much cheaper than Petrol.

Vehicle manufacturers such as Vauxhall used to install LPG systems into a certain number of their models as standard up until a few years ago. They don't do it so much these days in order to reduce production costs. It's a shame because LPG is a cleaner fuel and helps towards reducing the rate of petrol consumption. Any reduction in petrol consumption is still beneficial for the environment compared to no reduction at all.

Chris G There is some price difference with cars that have significantly more horsepower/performance than most cars. With an LPG conversion you're typically looking at a cost of £1500-2500, including labour, and depending on the type of system, quality of system, or whether you opt for 2nd hand parts. Most of the extra cost involved is usually for cars with more cylinders as obviously you need more injectors, which can get costly.

This is actually one of the cars he's converted, this very car in the video. They all perform just how they used to. The problems you've mentioned may well have been a problem in the past, but the Kits produced by Prins (the system that's on this Merc) are controlled by a piggyback ECU which takes the readings from the OEM ECU and just adjusts them for LPG. Almost no power differences, although these kits usually cost a bit more than the standard ones but for the quality of them it's worth it though seeing as you make the money back saving on fuel.

@@douglashill2860 Thanks, I thought it had do with the actual limits of the fuel itself beyond a certain engine rate, something like 98 RON being more efficient or which-ever thermo-dynamic physics apply in the burning of fuel...
@douglashill2860
@douglashill2860 4 жыл бұрын
ChawenHalo 008 Well I do know that LPG has a higher octane rating than standard petroleum (the LPG being about 85% Propane 15% Butane), and so actually combusts better not to mention it's combustion is much cleaner, but it is of course less energy dense than petrol due to its relative density being lower. But it really depends on the engine and the conversion of the car on how much, if any, power loss there really is. It could be 0%, it could be 15%, it could be MORE powerful it's all just to do with the injectors used, how smart/efficient the ECU is, the quality of the conversion itself. So there are lots of variables at play. Chances are if you get a good/excellent quality system fitted by a careful and skilled installer, you're looking at a 0% to 5% power loss, which I would say is pretty negligible considering the 40% less overall cost of running. Anyway ramble over, yes LPG is less energy dense than petrol even though it's combustion in itself is better and more powerful, so if an LPG system were to run at the exact same values as a standard Petrol system, same size injectors, flow rate etc, you'd be looking at a 10-15% power loss.
@chawenhalo0089
@chawenhalo0089 4 жыл бұрын
@@douglashill2860 Thanks for the complete answer, that's perfect. Who cares about a 5-15% power loss on such a powerful engine anyway. As the great man behind the Stratos and F40 once said: beyond 400 bhp, its just the electronics of the car having fun, not the driver.

With the system installed on this car you're looking at a 0% to 3% power loss. This conversion was done to a high standard by a skilled installer and I'm sure if you put it on a dyno and ran averages switching back and forth between fuels you'd be looking as extremely similar numbers, if they're any different at all. The actual dyno test probably wouldn't even be accurate enough to detect such a negligible difference.

Not sure how that LPG conversion was signed off. Last time I checked the filler was not allowed to be in the petrol flap and had to have its cover fitted when not being used.
@angusautogas6839
@angusautogas6839 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! We are the installers of the LPG system on this car. The requirement is that an adaptor is not needed to fit the filling nozzle onto the valve (apart from in other countries where they have different nozzle types.) So if there is space for the filler valve beside the petrol filler behind the petrol flap, which there isn't on 90% cars, then it can be fitted no issue. This car in particular does have enough space behind the petrol flap area and so the nozzle was installed there for convenience. Also the valve is covered by the petrol flap and so an extra cover is not required as the main purpose of it is to keep the valve clean. This car is certified to UKLPG standards by a certified professional technician, if there were any issues with the installation I’m we’d have heard about it. If you have anymore questions about it feel free to ask! AngusAutogas.

Obviously if I had one and it was the tyre that went I'd just do it myself but that's besides the point. In the boot. As an estate for everyday use you can afford to lose the a bit of space whilst if you were intending to use the full volume or needed the flat cargo bed simply remove the spare for that journey. I have the spare wheel strapped down in my LPG estate boot & it’s not to intrusive, the tool kit still nestled inside the wheel well & it has a protective padded bag around it. I’ve got a bit of wood board underneath to stop it indenting the carpet over time. Mine also has an early 2000’s Sony DVD player protruding into the o/s of the boot a little that still plays.

Mileage on LPG is usually around 15% less, so with a 45-55% less cost you're looking at around 40% lower costs overall than Petrol. But as JayEmm mentioned, it does also depend on usage.

From what I've heard, older LPG systems used to take around 10% to 20% of an engine's horsepower. But newer systems are much more efficient, general consensus is that it only takes around 5% or so, which in a high horsepower engine like this one you barely notice. LPG systems are a good option only if you daily drive a car such as this one, otherwise the cost is not worth it. Last year I test drove a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX with a new generation LPG system in it. You barely felt the difference switching fuels while driving it.

Dont like the performance A class's. Tut tut..... Ive driven loads of Golf R's, S3's, Mini coopers, Focus RS. And to me the W176 Facelift A class (2016-2018) has an amazing chassis. It just does precisely what ever you ask it to do in an almost surgical way. That together with the AMG dynamic suspension, AMG Speedshift DCT with 0.1 second shifts. And its just an awesome car. Which is why i now own one. Yes is has the most powerful 4cyl production engine in the world blah blah. But its not the fastest sure. I have an old but tuned Saab 9000 2.3T Aero and it Whoops the A45 out on the open road, despite being 23yrs old. 70 to 100 in just 3.5 seconds. Private roads of course.....

He didn't say they weren't good the point is that you pay Mercedes prices without getting the true Mercedes experience, if it's just the performance you want you can get it much cheaper elsewhere or put the money into buying an older but higher range Merc which will make you much happier, I read somewhere that the A class was the number one financed new car in the UK, lots of people buying them just to say they have a Mercedes I suspect.
