I love a good Miata but the handling of the 500e is surprisingly good and with a competent driver, it will stay glued to the rears of much newer and “sportier” cars. I have a 560sel s class with the single cam version of the 500e and that car, I could easily pull away from 350 and 370Z’s, older Porsche Carraras, and hot versions of normal cars like the SI and GTI. That’s despite it weighing in at 4100 pounds and having a 4 speed automatic, but it has almost 400 ft-lbs of torque and a wonderful suspension and chassis for a big car.

RS2 has recorded better times in the past by a huge margin (0-60 of 4.8 and a 1/4 mile of 13.45) of what it produced on this segment. I love the content but I think they were being a little soft on the RS2, it bogged hard after launch and got out of boost then didn't regain boost until mid 2nd gear. I can understand why they didn't want to damage a RS2 being its a $100k car in the US and a limited production car as well.
@Zreik20 Жыл бұрын
Honestly it looked like they botched the launch on the RS2 to me.
@daedalus_20v Жыл бұрын
RS2 was doing sub-14 second quarters when new on OEM 90's tires. It was over a second quicker to 60mph than the Merc back in the day. That's what's so dumb about these kinds of videos. We're talking about three used 30 year-old cars lol. Lord knows what's wrong with any/all of them at this point. It's one thing to say, "on paper this car shouldn't win etc." but quite another to just totally ignore reality. RS2 should be crossing the finish line 2 seconds ahead of the M5 lol but hey whatever gets those clicks, right?
@marcusjosefsson4998 Жыл бұрын
I guess that RS2 didn't have it's best day... It's definitely not 100% healthy, maxing out the rear suspension like that... It probably needs a minor chassis overhaul and a thorough inspection of vacuum hoses and wastegate.
@lqr824 Жыл бұрын
It's also possible the best quarter miles were done by speed-shifting (keeping the throttle pinned) to keep the boost up, but that'd be bad for the clutch and rough on the whole power train. I've had cars in this category since 1995 (Supra, two E39 M5's, R35, F430 spider manual) and I floored them every time I got behind the wheel but never speed-shifted.
@marcusjosefsson4998 Жыл бұрын
@@lqr824 The KKK turbo in the RS 2 is pretty big, but it spools up pretty fast. With a car in perfect health and just a little practice you don't need speed-shifting, it should be a lot faster than in this episode. Speaking from experience...

We're all aware how well these are filmed but when you look at all the different methods they capture the race, you start to realize how many times they need to run it to provide the final cut. Considering the angles overlap one another, if it was all one race, you'd be seeing drones flying in the fore/back ground, insta360 cameras stuck to all the cars - and, well, Jason would be run over multiple times standing on the track. Shoutout to the production team for having to think through how it's all captured for us.

I have been in love with the RS2 since I found out it existed some 20 years ago. I love it so much that I have four discrete builds in Forza Horizon 5. The E34 M5 may have sneakily become my favorite M5 over many repeated viewings of Ronin, but when I want a fast wagon, I want it to be an Audi. M5 sedan all the way, but for an estate car, make mine an RS2!

Anyone notice Randy in the front seat at 8:14? LOL The production, editing, content, presentation of these videos sets the bar so high.

That Rs2 deserved a better driver for sure... something is wrong with this test. The rs2 has a 0 to 90 time of average 12.5 sec. You got slower time. Near 2 sec in fact
@Mikeeg0607 Жыл бұрын
Evo tested the RS2 and got 4.8 0-60 so either this car was down on power or they didn't launch it hard enough or maybe both. I can understand them not wanting to break the car but maybe include a side note mentioning what the car is really capable of.

Camissa, you should make a video on cars everyday! You don’t make it just about cars, you make it about science, entertainment, and story telling! You don’t make enough for fans to enjoy it everyday!

Yeah more like 4.8. Maybe they sandbagged things. We know Jason is a Mercedes fan.

Can't help but wonder if that RS2 has a boost leak. That's a 4.8 second 0-60 car and in good shape with the right launch will leave that 500E behind. Also, please find a place to do rolling races as well. They add an entirely different dynamic.

factory claims was 0-100 5.6 so never less that 5 sec 0-60...but back 1994 I watched the tests and audi was fastests and merc slowest
