@@richphippsgarage Dude I absolutely love it, the look on peoples faces when it takes off never gets old! I got it in 2017 with 56k miles on it and it was previously owned by my bestfriend (which I think he may have bought from you while he was in the Navy??) He absolutely loved that car more than anything but he unfortunately passed a few years back and it was almost repo'd by the Navy Credit Union. Luckily I was able to get it before it did. If you're ever in Austin, Tx feel free to reach out and we'll take it for a spin!

On the TSI engine this will only work as a preventative measure. If the carbon has already built up, spraying seafoam into the intake won't be enough - a full IM removal is needed and the ports/valves scrubbed. I've got this lovely task to do soon...

I just did this same treatment today to my 2012 GTI MKVI, great video. My engine does not sputter at all, you just need to make sure you don't let your engine suck in the seafoam all at once. My engine throws a code sometimes but always disappears after re-installing the sensor and waiting the 10 mins or so, never had to try disconnecting the battery or get the code cleared.

yes same spot, i would recommend doing seafoam everytime you reach 1000km to get full benefits. I usually leave it in the car with it. I just add oil when i'm low level. Some say it's not good leaving it there, but according to seafoam, they recommend letting it stay in the car. Then when it's due then replace the oil and add seafoam again.

Recently started throwing P2015 (runner control bank 1). Engine management lamp comes on and then extinguishes the next day, but comes on after driving. Though rather than only using a 1/3rd of a cup I used the whole can and let it sit over night just to get better results even though its proven it does not do much..but hey the earlier you do it (low mileage) the better it "might" work. I only have 19400miles on mine when I did it. I'll probably do this every 5K. I mean its only a $10 a can. Lol. Anyways good video and love the car man.

Direct Injected engines are prone to carbon build up, the engine oil vapors are that entering on to the intake manifold is making contact on the valves hot valves which gum and from carbon deposit since there's no fuel to spraying on the valves, the valves get gummed up with carbon buildup. Cleaning is no mandatory but it will extend the engine's life.

380 hp at wheels?, I don't think so. I've seen a few new 2015-16' Golf R's (292 hp crank vs 210-220 hp crank), do the stag 3 APR, full associated bolt-ons on 91 and E40, only hit 345-350 awhp. Which is about 375 hp corrected for a fwd/rwd dyno. You must have a GT30 or GT31 series turbo on there at 27-28 psi for 380 whp.

Thanks! I've got 175,000 miles on my 2009 tiguan and I realize that this buildup is from no oil catch can! So I'm going to do what you suggest after I get an oil catch can to minimize the buildup of the intake manifold. The manufacturers don't install this because more then 60% of the people who own cars don't change their oil regularly... so that catch can will just fill up and the engine will just suck the oil back into the intake. But then again I do my own work so its not a big deal. :)
@largol33t1
@largol33t1 7 жыл бұрын
What I don't understand is why are oil catch cans not installed as standardized parts. I was told that ALL turbocharged cars will blow tiny amounts of oil into the manifold no matter how you drive. So why not put a bypass catch pan of some sort when the car is built at the factory? They always say the air intake system is important to a turbocharged engine, well so is the maintenance... I guess car companies just want to make us spend money getting the car serviced so their mechanics can make $20 an hour.
@TheOriginalStevenH
@TheOriginalStevenH 7 жыл бұрын
largol33t1 because... most people don't even change their oil and you have to empty the oil catch can probably every three months otherwise you have just a full can of crap that just gets sucked into the engine and can hydrolock.

Don't put that stuff through your engine. Or anything else. It just cleans a bit, it does not remove the other 25% of carbon left behind and infact, will cause the left overs to increase the heat and damage the turbo. There are lots of turbo failures coming into my dealer after people have done any one of a few different carbon cleanings. Nothing is officially approved either. Only a manual cleaning by the dealer removing the manifold. This is a GDI flaw and is a serious problem with man manufacturers now. Extra injectors will help, and only Toyota is starting to do this.

It´s better to take the whole intake manifold out and clean it. FSI and TSI engines work just like diesel engines when on low and medium rpm´s (stratified injection) and city driving cycle increase the carbon build up on them. By my experience using seafoam or similar products work for a while but the really heavy deposits on the intake won´t be eliminated and will stay there.
