2010 Yamaha Nytro RTX SE: Preseason Maintenance

Recently purchased this sled. With any used machine, you have to expect to do a bit of maintenance to bring it up to your standards.
Jobs done:
New oil lite spindle bushings
New ski collars and spacers
New oil lite a arm bushings
New steering shaft bushings and grease
All suspension reset to standard compression and rebound settings
Engine oil changed with Yamalube 0W40 full synthetic
New Yamaha oil filter
Chaincase oil changed with yamalube full synthetic
Chain adjustment checked
Replaced a wheel bearing in skid
New outer tie rods ends
Still a few more items to attend to before the snow flies.
Took me about 10 hours to do everything and i'm happy to answer any questions anyone has.
This was a " 12 beer job " . I didn't actually consume that many.

Very clean nytro. Although the movement on the a arms is gone, i still shte howd theres some slop in the handles. Just s nytro thing. If you get access to thr steering colum you can see the bottom just has some wiggle room even knew ive heard.

I actually bought 4 tie rod ends and had planned to replace all of those too. But after doing the a-arms, ski spindles bushings, an alignment etc. I just wanted to ride it. The steering is really good as it is and I may do the tie rod ends this summer if I have the energy.

@@rippinmachines ooo I see see. I have an 09 FX Nytro XTX and I did about 25 hours of work over the summer to it and this is the last thing I need to do. I bet all the stuff you did fixed any darting issues? Up here there's not a whole lot of snow so on ice I have an issue with the machine wanting to dart left or right from the wiggle in the steering, but this probably fixed it all. I live in Alaska and right now it's -4 f outside so I might wait till summer as well haha. Thanks for the awesome video!!

@@Jeff-gs7uh I have never had an issue with darting. I'm running tuner skis and they work very well. A lot of darting can do with alignment. Read up on how to do one and give that a go. Can take a bit of time to get it adjusted but not a difficult thing to do.

@@rippinmachines so mine is actually really bad, I think spindle bushing? I have 2 inches of play at the tip of my ski in both because the bushings are SO shot. I heard the stock skis dart a lot so I swapped out for kimpex pilot skis? I think can't remember. That's helped a lot and when I do the alignment they go from aligned to very unaligned haha. Literally move the front of the ski an inch each way. So when they both go right an inch it darts a little. I'm hoping the bushings fix the darting. It's good to know that the handle bar wiggle won't affect it after I fix that. Thank you!!

So I just got a 2008 nytro. How do you check the oil. And also the chain case oil.

the dipstick is at the top of the oil tank and there is a dip stick in the chain case as well.

the inner A-arm bushings looks painful to change thats why im just gonna leave mine

I did it well the weather was still warm as I knew it was going to be a lot of work. Lots of surprises but glad I did it.

@@rippinmachines could you honestly feel much of a difference on the trail with things tightened up?

@@jasonberning1086 still not enough snow to test it, but the a arms and skis/spindles had a ton of play. Things also really tightened up with the new lower steering bushings. I’ll report back once I’m able to test it.

@@rippinmachines I see. Didn’t realize you just posted this. I have a 2011 Nytro XTX with sloppy spindle ski bushings and A-arm bushings. Just wondering if there will be a noticeable difference

@@jasonberning1086 I suspect there will be. Parts aren’t that expensive but it takes a fair bit of time and patience to do the work.
