Dirt Bike Repair UPDATED I have just found the answer to this problem. It was the lean angle sensor which is located inside of the ECU. Nothing was wrong with it but because we have the Ride Engeneering triple clamps and a Honda Steering dampner, we had remount the ECU. It's stock location is just behind the number plate and it's mounting holes are used for the Honda Damper. So when we repositioned it we used zip ties. Anyways one of the Zip Ties broke and the ECU was hanging at an angle resulting in it shutting the bike off, thinking that the bike was tipped over. So now we will re secure the ECU in an upright positions. Very happy that I figured this one out. These EFI bikes are tricky. If you have the same problem. Check your sensors, coolant ext. don't overlook the symptoms.

Hello is there anyone who knows what could be the problem here. Any sensors, coolant, oil, air, efi help point me in the right direction. We rode the bike lots of times and has always worked great. Since the last time we rode it the only thing we have done was wash the bike. Then the problem arose. After that we figured that it may be the air filter is clogged, so we cleaned, oiled and reinstalled, but still the same problem. It seems to be a auto kill switch or something like that. Once the bike runs for a min. Usually no longer than that it will just stop running, even if you hold the gas on. I think it may be overheating but not sure. Anyone's help or input will be much appreciated. That you.

Did you try to chang the spark plug , this is unlikely but on but take the silencer apart and replace the filter

All i run is yamaha,(450 class) Most Dont check valves like they should. These bikes have titanium valves that need constant checking, reg replacement. and constant maintenance.USE THE BEST AIR FILTER YOU CAN GET! = dust/dirt getting through/or around air filter is sudden death to titanium !! there coated to reduce friction, and dust eats the coating off. thats why replacement is so important. that and you dont wanna mushroom ur valve!! TIP= (advance intake cam one tooth)set valves at 6 and 9 !! This has to be correct or they will run like shit ,stall out, hard to crank, wont stay running, etc. valves GOTTA BE EXACT!!! my yz will crank w one kick everytime (when i remember to turn gas on LOL) before rebuilding top end = it took 4-5 kicks to start it, IT HAD COMPRESSION! ran fine! just hard to start! was All valve issues. But seemed to be many problems!! Just valves! any questions hit me up ill try and help you. ive worked on and with yamaha 18 yrs! if you meet the spec.s she ll pur like a kitten!! all valve issues.

MrCantgetno so my bike ran fine yesterday but today I want to the track and it would run for 30 seconds and stall out like it ran out of gas but I can’t figure out why

MrCantgetno my bike won’t start can’t find out why just rebuild the carby the other day and the motor I’m just not sure I’m not that good with bikes I’m only 16 and was just wondering is you know what might be going on or just tip what to check for you probably won’t see this because you did this 5 years ago but thought I might try sorry about spelling lol

I have a 07 yz450f used to idle great but now I get a backfire and it won't stay idling but still runs strong and starts up 2 maybe 3 kick when cold when warm 1st kick every time. Previous owner said he redid the top end and I have an adjustable timing tensioner for if the bolt I was wondering if I tighten that up will it change my timing or just tighten the chain and could that be my problem

Got a 2004 rmz suzuki 250 .. wont kick start bump start fine and idles but shuts off after about 5 mins while hauling ass.. other than being a 04 suzuki i need help

Jhonson Williams I would start with checking your carburetor. Check to make sure your choke is working correctly. Clean the whole carb, then try fine tuning it.

I'm not all that great with four strokes but you might of blown a valve or they could be out of adjustment you could have fried a piston too

Got a question my 2006 yz450 got overheat and the motor lock up but now is fine and got compression but I don't wan to try to turn it on and fuck something alse inside the motor what u think I should do ?

it could be a number of things. depending on what you mean by lock up and now is fine. It could be piston rings, maybe valving. could have been something in the transmission. I would start with the basics. Its really hard to diagnose a motor problem from a chat box. Change the oil and check the old oil for broken motor parts in the oil. it could be that a broken part was floating around in the motor and the got stuck for awhile. If you feel it was in the top end then check your valves, valve clearance, timing chain, chain tensioner, piston, rings, clean intake track, check backside of any spark arrestor screen for broken bits that would have came out in exhaust. work yourself back through the scenario of what happened.

@david james. My yz450f did the same thing. U might have lost the compression valve on the right side on the engine really close to the top of the engine. Mine will start and run no problem but that caused after the compression vavle (or what its called) was filled in with a high heat silicone or something along those lines.. I'm pretty sure u can't just replace the part because if it blew off from pressure it prob took the threads with it

I own. YZ450F and was riding trails this weekend. Went over a bunch of woops and engine started to die. Started bike and would only start with throttle wide open. Made it back to camp, checked engine coolant and it was empty. Bike starts but over heats, exhaust is turning red coming out of engine and some flames are coming out of the end of the muffler. Need help!!

+christoper Hurlimann No carburetor, bikes fuel injected. Posted that video 3 years ago and dont have the bike anymore. Problem was that I had the CDI BLACK BOX IGNITION remounted onto the back side of my front number plate with zip ties, to make room for my Honda HPSD steering damper. Anyway, one of the zip ties broke and the CDI black box was hanging sideways hidden behind the front number plate. It just so happens, that bike has a lean angle indicator inside the CDI. So because my relocated CDI zip tie was broken and hanging sideways it thought the bike was tipped over on its side and the lean angle indicator automatically shuts the bike off when its tipped over for more than 30 seconds or so. Seems some other people have had problems with the lean angle indicator on their 2010 yz450f's as well. My Fix was to put a new zip tie on, to secure the CDI in its upright position.

Also, put the damn seat on so it gets the correct airflow. Too much air, it won't run right.

Brad Owens this video was made 5 years ago and if you read the videos description you'll see the problem was resolved. We don't own this bike anymore. Fyi the seat doesn't cover the air box on this model. The cylinder is reversed and the intake comes down. The air filter is above the fuel tank.

Did you check to make sure the spark plug is all the way in.If its not that than maybe it's a piston or compression ring. If the bike kicks over but has no compression than it could be a number of things. Start with the simple things and don't overlook the obvious. I'm keep thinking about it. Let me know any more symptoms.

Stop giving it gas while kicking. It's FI. Doesn't need anymore fuel while starting. ECU properly regulated fuel o on start up. No need to force the injector to shoot more fuel.

I already found the problem. it was the lean angle sensor inside of the black box. we had it re mounted on the back side of the front number plate instead of fixed to the frame behind the front number plate. the problem was that one of our zip tyes broke and the black box was hanging sideways. it's a safety measure so that if your bike falls over and is still running for more than a minute, the engine will stall. the fix was a new zip tye.

I have a 2011 YZ450 with a WR box and weighted flywheel, the bike has been taking in recently and fully serviced including shimming It dies after a few moments when in gear, when idling in neutral and I hold in the clutch it does the same thing. Rode an enduro sat and whenever I'd come to a stop and pull in the clutch she would die.. -Airfilter has been cleaned -Valves were just shimmed -Oil and filter changed -Clutch within spec according to the Yamaha mechanics Weird thing is initially when I start it and ride for a few minutes I don't have a problem.. Help please?

Brad Cloete I would take note of the original angle that the black box was mounted on WR. Then see if it is sitting at the same angle while mounted to the yz. The lean angle indicator will kill the bike if the box is not "upright"

My bike ran fine yesterday went to the track today Got halfway around in the bike stalled like it ran out of gas ever cents every time I start it runs for 30 seconds and stalls like it’s out of gas .... help ?

Pretty hard to do a compression test on the 5valve. You need to do a leak down test

We had Ride engineering triple clamps and a Honda steering damper. The CDi box was in the way. So it was relocated to the number plate. The problem was that one of the zip ties that held the cdi ontk the backside of the number plate was broken so the CDI box was not straight up and down. It was angled. Turns out there is a lean angle sensor inside the CDI black box. It senses if the bike has been tipped over and will automatically kill the engine if kept leaned over for a minute. So the bike though that it was laying down flat of angled. The fix. New zip ties.
