2011 - 2012 PBA World Championship (Johnny Petraglia Division) - Match 01

The new year on the PBA Tour gets started with the PBA World Championship Johnny Petraglia Division Final, which will air at 1 p.m. ET Sunday on ESPN. It is the third of four eliminator rounds that will eventually trim the PBA World Championship field of 16 finalists down to four for the Sunday, Jan. 15, battle for the $50,000 first prize, the Earl Anthony Trophy and the PBA Tour's first major title of the 2011-12 season.
Four-time Tour winner Sean Rash dominated the 40-game qualifying portion of the World Championship, averaging 234.03 on five different lane conditions to earn top qualifier honors.
As the top qualifier in the Petraglia Division, Rash has selected the PBA's Scorpion lane condition as the scoring environment for Sunday's round. Also making the Division final are PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber trying for his 36th title; third-year player Ryan Ciminelli trying for his second Tour title and non-titlist Nathan Bohr of Wichita, Kan., who will be making his PBA television debut.
One of these four players will be hoping to join Ryan Shafer and Osku Palermaa who have already won Division finals to qualify for the World Championship finals.
In Sunday's division finals, all four players will bowl a one-game match. The player with the lowest score will be eliminated. The three survivors will bowl another game, with the low man knocked out. The two finalists will bowl a final game, with the survivor advancing to the World Championship finals.
The Johnny Petraglia finals are named after the PBA Hall of Famer, 14-time PBA Tour champion and winner of the 1980 PBA National Championship.

Its an experience thing, bowling on the same oil patterns as the guys on tv and knowing how difficult it can be to score on these difficult patterns is what gives you the respect that makes it a spectator sport. Problem is, that you have to know what makes bowling on a particular pattern more challenging than just bowling at your local centre, otherwise it can be difficult for people to understand, simply because you cant see the oil.

that is very true we as left handed bowlers are very lucky. but the one downside is if u are bowling on a long oily pattern the right handers will find a line that will hook faster but as with us leftys it will take us alot longer to find a dry line and get ball reaction.

No. Ball companies suggest if you do drill near the pin, to drill it all the way out so it has less chance of the ball cracking. But there is nothing illegal about it.

Just bowled in a tourney with Nathan Bohr.. I guess he isn't a Storm staffer anymore because he was wearing a DV8 shirt and throwing DV8 balls. I kept thinking, "That guy looks so familiar, who is that", then it hit me, I saw him on ESPN a few months ago.

Love the lefty comments. We (leftys) really aren't so lucky most of the time. Did you know, most people give the left side less oil to work with. Look it up.. (example: ww.bowltech.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-24225.html ) On my league, 5 vs. 5 many times 4 of the 10 bowlers are left handed and getting less oil gets rough sometimes.
