I agree...As a matter of fact, my 12 Fusion lit up an Evap related CEL that was diagnosed as a broken/defective fuel filler door (Plastic crap) which of course the dealership said I broke. Now that causes an Evap leak and should be covered under the emissions warranty... Nope, it's a user item and cost me $100.

The entire engine should be recalled! What kinda dip shi* engineer builds a water pump into the inside of the timing cover?!? If any of you don't know your engine will be trash by the time you know the water pump failed! If you have the duratec don't take a chance,have that water pump swapped and everything around it! I bought the rocker cover and installed it while changing the spark plugs and PCV valve… Ours use to puddle in the area between the throttle body and the air filter… Since changing the parts, drove round trip from Anaheim and Monterey and back… after another trip over Thanksgiving too. I finally peeked into the hose that usually was wet! It was dry as a bone and the car ran great and no burnt oil smell out of the exhaust with the 3.5 six Edge Limited 2011… Glad I finally did the job…. Well worth the effort at 88000 miles! Thanks for the heads up on the updated rocker cover!

Thanks to this video I was able to work on my wife explorer. Listen to the video carefully, before you screw in the cover. BE SURE NO LINE IS CAUGHT UNDER IT. I pinched the alternator cable to the battery, and sparks were flying, smoke and burning rubber smell. I got to look my wife in the eye and tell her about a little incident. I tought I fried all the electronics. Anyway a friend of mine help me to fix the cable a day later. At the end my wife was happy. I also replaced the spark plugs and saved about $700. Great video

Thanks for the video. I have a 2011 Explorer with what appears to be a bad VCT Solenoid. I have looked everywhere for information, pics, videos, etc showing the VCT's and how to change them. I can't find ANYTHING. This is first video I have found that at least shows them, and how they are mounted in the engine. I know that was not what the video was about, but it helped me anyways.... Unfortunately, the one I suspect is bad is on the other bank (closest to firewall). Hopefully it won't be too much of a bear to get that valve cover off. You made front bank look easy!!!

Great video, as usual. Would have liked to see the old cover to compare it with the new "baffled" cover (for curiosities sake). Also might be a good idea to clean the throttle valve since it got a lot of oil on it and could be coated with "baked on" deposits and a good cleaning could help with good idle quality.

Re removing the old Permatex black -- sure a blade works and Scotchbright. If you get a chance try some pure cyclohexane on a small cloth. It cleans off (dissolves) silicon rubber very well. Also good for removing glue from bathtub stickers and side window stick-on frost shields that used to be used up north back in the day. Very flammable so no smoking or open flames.

I have the same issue on my 2013 Explorer. Not nearly as bad though. I pulled the breather tube and installed a transparent fuel filter between the valve cover and the main intake tube with 3/8" tubing. I'm catching roughly 1 tablespoon of oil per oil change (5k miles). and I can keep an eye on it. No oil is going into the intake now. I may have one of the newer design valve covers already, seeing as it's a very little amount of oil.

The fix on my 2013 Impala with the 3.6L motor was to slightly increase the orifice openings on the PCV valve. That completely solved this same issue. This issue is due to a poorly designed PCV system that doesn't pull enough vacuum to keep a positive flow through the system.

I have a 2011 ford Taurus that is showing this very issue. Problem is, the valve cover on my car has only one VCT port not two like the one shown. Is there an updated valve cover for this model of engine? Can I pull the cover and clean the vent plate channels to prevent the oil from venting up the tube? A standard PCV valve fits in the same hole as the fresh air nipple, would replacing that with a PCV and using a standard rubber hose back to the air intake prevent the oil? I have also inspected the PCV valve on the rear valve cover with no change in the situation.

I just did this swap to the new part number on my 2013 3.5l Edge. With both valve covers off, I couldn't tell the difference from this revised part number to the factory original in appearance inside. While I observed a little minor oil on the throttle body, upper intake tube and tube running from valve cover to intake, but not nearly enough to pool up like in the vehicle in this video. In my case i just saw signs of light sprinkles. The bolt torque sequence link you included is not working.

This oil problem seems to be quite common on the Ford engines. I have a 2012 Edge 2.0L Ecoboost that seems to have the same issue. Is there a new valve cover for it as well? I have seen other videos where an oil catch can is installed between the PCV and fresh air intake to catch the blow by oil. Is that something you've done before or even recommend? I really like to see you do a video fixing the oil issue on the 2.0 L EB engine. Get video and explanation of the process.

I have a 2012 ford edge 3.5 I noticed oil was filled in the crash air lined leading to the intake tube prior to the throttle body and you could see oil pooling in the tb. Is this the problem the new cover fixes? It just seemed like a very excessive amount of oil being brought into the intake.. I didn't know if something worse was going on.. I replaced my pcv but that's on bank 1 and the bank 2 fresh air line is were the oil was getting into the intake.

I'm slightly confused, I need to do this on a 2011 Edge. The guy at the Ford dealer said BR3Z-6582-G was the " Front" valve cover, but the link in your description says -R, not -G. I really don't wanna order the wrong one, so if you could clear that up for me, that'd be cool.

FordTechMakuloco that's what I was thinking cause R is the left valve cover, so if you turned the engine straight like a V8 would be, left would be drivers side. I didn't believe that dude at the dealer, I just asked him that after I picked up the intake gasket since I was doing spark plugs on this 11 Edge the other day. The old cover did not have any cracks or leaks. so after I see this video I place an on order for a new valve cover, now the new valve cover it didn’t come with the pcv valve so I use the old one, but sadly it didn’t solve my problem. I highly recommend to change the pcv valve before you buy the valve cover and go from there that’s my next project.

There is a big difference,between a part wearing out normally and a part that's made to fail or parts that are not tested to see when and how they fail. And also just how much money do you think Ford and company's like them make off of replacement parts to fix their mistakes which I believe they do on purpose,IMHO. I get sick of working on cars and trucks that anyone should see is half A$$ed or made to fail after the warranty expires. If I did my job the way these company's build cars, I wouldn't a job ! Of course a lot of people change to the new model before the thing starts to fall to pieces. Even Subaru has gotten slack with what had became a bullet proof design. Now the drive by wire is a nightmare !

Hello I have been following your videos for a while now.: I can’t thank you enough for your time an expertise!! I know this is an older post but I hope you will some how read this an be able to respond.. I changed the spark plugs on my 2012 explorer and went to put everything back together I was about to install the air intake housing and seen oil everywhere.. So I cleaned it out changed the air filter and the pcv valve.. and put everything back together drove it for about 900 miles an got a P0430 (engine light came on) And before I did the spark plug change had the cylinder 5 misfire the dealer change the coil and plug.. A lil while later got a cylinder misfire 3 that’s when I decided to change plugs.. So I’m guessing all this oil going through the system like that was the culprit the whole time!!?? It just turned 100 thou. And I’m guessing the cat could possibly be destroyed.. I did find the TSB on this and that said to change the Rh valve cover.. So my question is do I change the one you recommend or the one the TSB says.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you again for the service you provide for all us DIYER’S..

This is going a little of the topic Bryan but, the new 2018 Ford F-150 will have a 3.0 V6 power stroke diesel option. Any chance you will be trading in that Ram 1500 for a Ford F-150? They probably saw your video on why you bought the Ram instead of a F-150 lol.

Okay so what about the 2010 Ford Taurus? I keep seeing this all for 2011 and up but I need something for the 2010 Taurus. I have the AWD 3.5 SEL model. Blow by gets into the intake from the front valve cover PCV hose. Will this valve cover fit on mine too?

Hmmm, no doubt that's a problem. The vent side of the PCV system should be oil free. Nice inexpensive fix though, but I wonder if a new line with a check valve in it would also work?
@xder345
@xder345 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, it works. I installed a transparent fuel filter with 3/8" hose in place of the breather tube and it's catching all of the oil. Just change out the fuel filter at every oil change. $5 or so.

most likely the oil puddles around the valve stem seal on downhill side and soaking through overnight. Probably not worth changing because under normal flat driving it's not worn enough to let oil through. Just when it sits and soaks.

Hi, great video. I saw another video where you recommend for an F150 using oil 5w30 instead of the 5w20 indicated in the cap. What oil do you recommend for a 2016 Explorer the cap says 5w20 it has 30k miles?
@DJR5280

He does recommend 5w30 for these engines. My roomate has a 2010 CX9 with the 3.7 that burns oil badly,switched to 5w30 per Brian's,recommendation and the burning had slowed, stopped.

On reassembly. Why not install the coils first, along with the oil fill cap and oil dip stick. This would further prevent debris from falling into the spark plug holes.
@FordTechMakuloco
@FordTechMakuloco 8 жыл бұрын
It is best to no disturb the gasket and sealant so I would say at least do the first step and snug down the bolts before touching any of those items. At this point your engine should be ultra clean around these holes and debris should not be a problem just tools.

At times I believe there are built in issues for return repairs. Hyundai V6 with leaking front valve cover at the timing cover t-joint edge, that leaks down onto the alternator to fail but the same design on the back cover doesn't leak.

Thinking that was my issue but oil is shooting up really high on my dip stick which I've never seen before in any car I've ever owned! 🤔 Do you think my valve cover is causing this by chance it being an 2008 3.5?

I replaced the valve cover 2 months ago on my 2011 Explorer following your video and so far no more oil in the air filter. Worked like a charm. Also I noticed a lot less burning smell under harder acceleration now. Thank you! Do you have a video for the gear shifter problem? The vehicle definitely goes into park but the "P" doesn't light up. I have to lightly tap the button for the "P" to light up on the shifter. Any recommendations? I'm out of warranty.
