2011 Buick Regal 2.4 Engine Removal: Watch Us Work Time Lapse

Alex and Jim Remove a 2.4 engine that lost oil pressure from a 2011 Buick Regal. Most of the video is a Time Lapse with Text of the highlights about the job. I'm new to anything mechanical. I bought that car with a bad engine and wondered if I could do it to save money. Did you guys put another motor in?

@@narrowminded7694 yes we did. It wasn't a terrible job, but I've done hundreds of engine swaps. You'll definitely need some good large jack stands and a engine hoist.

Only thing to add worth mentioning is the axle bearing that’s bolted to the back side of the block 3x15 mm bolts

You mentioned something about the timing chain or the water pump being changed and your probably right. On those cars the timing chain is a known weakness and when they change the timing chain every shop I know of does the water pump as well. So I’m gonna say that both were changed. Probably not necessary but just a little information to throw out the there

Would this work on a 2012 buick verano 2.4L? It kinda looks like the same engine. I am just afraid I have to drop the subframe..

I am replaceing the LAF engine in my 2011 Buick Reagal with an LEA engine from a 2013 Verano. Do you happen to know if GM did a better job building the LEA than they did on the oil burning,timing chain rattling,VVT malfunctioning ,oil pressure dropping LAF engine?

@@andersonsgarage2334 Thanks LOL ! This is the first car I ever owned that broke just sitting there. Parked it when the chain jumped and now got no brakes and a MAF code.Girls seem to like it thats the only reason Ive decided to save her . Take care !

@@andersonsgarage2334 Yes but a lot of conflicting info out there. Throttle body and knock sensor need changed im told.One source says cams are identicle but you need to change VVT gears.Whats interesting is the kits with VVT gears on Ebay say both 2011 and 2013 are the same??? The chain kit i received came with replacement VVT gears with no PNs.Nice!

@@tobysirus4996 the problem comes with the date of manufacture. The 2011 in the video was an early 2011. Turns out it got a 2010 engine at the factory. Even though the replacement motor was also an early 2011 also I still had to swap the cam. Bummer.
