2011 Chevy Equinox - Won't start, click, or crank

170k miles, battery died last week, and wouldn't take a charge / couldn't jump it. I replaced the battery (purchased from AutoZone). Now the car has power, but when I turn the key in the ignition, there is no clicking, no crank, etc. Does anyone have any ideas to fix?
1/3/18 UPDATE - I had my car towed to the mechanic. Turns out the battery I purchased / installed from Autozone was a bad battery, and completely frozen. Apparently this is a common problem with batteries. The mechanic installed a new battery, car works great (for now). Credit to Autozone - not only did they refund my battery and give me the credit on the first battery, but they also covered the $99 tow.

I’ve worked on many cars and in a few weeks I’m headed to Chicago to work on a 2014 Chevy Equinox with the same issues. It appears to be the ignition starter switch. This part is located behind the key lock cylinder. It may be possible at times to wiggle your key in the lock and possibly jar the contacts in the switch and get your car to start. With this part being electrical you don’t get much warning that it’s going bad other than the vehicle not starting. I hope this solves some of your problems outside of having to reset the ECM (Engine Control Module) careful resetting it because if you blow it this part is extremely pricey

The 2010 -12 chevy equinox do not come with the 8235 hi power started relay, after 160 you have to add the relay in the spot because it no longer supports the 30amp relay alone.

It's the fob literally just went through that today. New battery didn't work for me but the spare key did! Otherwise you'll have yo go through the dealership or locksmith that can reprogram. Hope this helps!

My battery went dead. After replacing it my equinox did the same thing. A mechanic suggested I place the key in the ignition turn it forward then leave it in that position. Disconnect the battery lines and touch the lines together for a minute while disconnected from the battery. After a minute reconnect the lines back to the battery then turn off the ignition and try starting the car. It worked for me and saved my a lot of money.

We just brought this 2006 equinox a few months ago. Was working fine first days then it wouldn't start but the tricky funny thing sometimes it does. Now we've been having truck not starting in the morning but in the afternoon it would work fine. Hubby and I are going crazy!!!

I have a 2010 chevy equinox. No crank, no start, no clicks. Hate to say it I went through everything and my wife found a chick online that said her neighbor unplugged the ground on battery for 5 minutes and I'll be damn it worked! Evidently it resets the computer good luck everybody

It’s the key, it’s un programmed so the computer won’t let the vehicle start go to a dealership to get your key progrmmed

Thsi might be only for newrr models but i kid you not, i thought my starter was bad becasue my battery was on good levels.. but it turned out that my key got wet and for some reason wasnt stsrting my car. I had a spare and it turnrd on normally. My chevy is an2014 equinox

Luis Merchan your problem is anti theft. Check your owners manual and reset it. I have this issue but no lock light.

I just found the problem. The ECO mode was on The ECO mode button, is right above the Driving shift, right above P/Park. (Eco was most kindly accidentally pushed). #Peace

Same problem here. Have tried all the reset options I can find online and nothing works. Best guess is it's the security lock. Going to have a lock Smith come try and rest it in the next few days.

@@trizzyob2665 @Trizzy OB did you fix the problem I'm lost with my wife's equinox it started last week moved the car from the back yard to front went in came back out to start it again wouldn't crank changed vvt valves camshaft sensors and nothing mechanic came and jump the car it started right up dont know how the battery died it was on not 5 minutes ago just went in to grab money to go to the store. Took the battery to get tested at 3 different places autozone said it lacked 1 cell O'Reillys said it was showing good Firestone said it was good also, Firestone also tested the alternator and starter and the voltage of the car and said it's in great condition there's no errors no where so we still bought a battery. The next day took my wife to work about 5 miles from my home on the highway dropped her off and came straight home 2.5 miles from the house the cars electrics shut off and turn back off in the blink of an eye I was barely able to catch what it said but caught some letters now that I seen someone say something of a strbili services I realized that's what came up but the cars mechanics stayed on and driving and the light came right back on and I finished driving home when I parked I turned it off and on 3 times and it started fine I ran in to grab something my wife forgot and when i came out to start her up all i got was ticks as if it was the battery or starter but the day before I made sure everything was good the second time I tried to turn it on nothing just 1 solid click and not one light on so I was going to take the key out and inspect under the hood but the key was stuck in the ignition it wouldnt come all the way back the steering wheel wasn't locked so I call my mechanic and he says sounds like your battery somehow drained to down to the last drop try jumping off another car so I go inside get my truck keys and as I'm walking out I hear my wife's car playing the radio and all the lights including the high beams where on so I try pulling the key out and she comes smoothly out I look at all the lights and turn the key slow and inspect the lights nothing dims, right when the key gets to the the on position everything shuts off and dies just 1 sold click and the keys stuck again I call my mechanic and explain what just happened and he was at a loss for words and said he'd be here to help me tomorrow but at this point I've been looking and need some help lol anything helps. @@jorgecortez151 these cars are SUPER complicated for me I ended up having to get a new key made from a mobile locksmith I found on google and he programmed the key to the car and it worked and shortly after I needed a new battery. then it was all good. the new key for a couple hundred and the new battery. I saw multiple things that can affect the equinox's electric and keys stop working properly and it's almost endless. I had to do a little searching online. from my knowledge I believe it's something to do with the key and needing either a locksmith or to take it to the dealership

@@trizzyob2665 @Trizzy OB we figured it out for some odd reason the starter was pulling too much power, in the equinox the alternator and starter are directly connected at a T the starter was continuously taking the power from the recharging system to the point when we connected the ground cable the battery would die and slowly come back as we where working on trying to find a draining problem we would hear a random "click" on once after wed tried turning the car on and failing after about an an hour and a half we hear the click and started focusing in where it was coming from as we wherent expecting it to be the started since it tested positive a day before and passed a all around voltage test, so were waiting to hear the click again but it doesn't happen so we reside to try to test the starter again but this time taking it off as were taking it off the last screw comes off and the mechanic pulls it and we hear the flywheel disengage. The pieces inside that move and hold the flywheel where loose giving it play the mechanic instantly says it's bad but ask them to test it because it shouldn't have kept starting and acting the way it did. At autozone we tested it the first time we noticed that the flywheel would push it's in and out struggling and wobbling but spinning with power the test finishes and comes out as a good starter the guys and me all look at each other and start 2 more test expecting for sure at least 1 negative but not 3 past tests when obviously it was gone. We out the new starter on and listened we could hear the alternator whining charging it was finally getting enough power since then everything's been good I can actually feel the car doing better performance wise dint know if it's just my head but well find out in the morning lol. My mechanic was already telling me about having to call a lock Smith or an ignition switch guy because hed rather not touch it because they're touchy we where honestly at the end of trying to fix it who would've known lol

Same thing happened to my 2008 chevy equinox. •The alarm works to lock/unlock the truck, the dashboard works, the lights inside and outside work, and the radio works, but when I turn the key to start it, it's doesn't start, no clicking sound, no noise, silence. So we thought maybe it's the battery and we charged it with a battery charger- nothing same issue, we try to jump it with two different vehicles- nothing, we then took the starter to get it check and they told us it was fine. That it might be the anti theft lock out. Still need to check that, but for now I'm thinking of taking the battery to get it check after reading your post Wombat1523... Any comments are appreciated! Larry Mayorga, Unfortunately no, it's still in the same state. ☹ I took the battery to get it check and they said it was still good, I looked for the anti theft symbol and saw none of this anywhere on the dashboard. My next step is to take it to a mechanic so they can hopefully tell me what's wrong. I also think it might be the key, it got deprogrammed.
