2011 Ford Edge back up camera $53 fix

How to video replace back up camera 2011 Ford Edge with aftermarket camera purchased for $53 on eBay.

I just replaced the camera in my 2011 Edge. There is a way to get the camera out without cutting that tab. If you look to the left of camera in video you will see a small dimple. Just up and to the left of that you will see what looks like a silver dimple inside a larger black raised circle. I paused the video at 2:49 and it shows a good view of what I'm talking about. The black dimple is a positioning dowel to line everything up during assembly. The silver one is a screw or rivet that is put in from the other side during assembly to hold that plastic bracket in place. If you drill this dimple out the entire bracket holding the camera in place can be shifted to the left and removed. I took old camera out , installed new one and replaced the bracket. The hole left from drilling that screw or rivet out leaves a place to put a sheet metal screw in that will now hold that bracket in place. This video got me going in the right direction getting to that camera but I didn't want to cut that tab so I found a different way of doing it. Hope this helps someone!

Thanks Chris! Great video! I was suffering with a cloudy backup view for years, now nice and clear! I agree with Chris' approach to trimming the tab (...seemed way too difficult to remove the torx screw). I also made a couple mods: I used my Dremel with the small sanding drum to trim back the opening in bracket to allow the camera to easily fit in. Then I made a small aluminum angle (.75 wide x .75 legs with ~110 degree open angle) and attached it with a small sheetmetal screw to the area where tab was removed...held the camera nice and tight.

Just remove the torx screw.

You don't need to break the tabs to do this. The four outer studs are threaded and the entire piece pops out.

The t-20 torx screw is easy.... all you have to do is remove the blue oval (pry up on one of the holding tabs on each side and use a door removal tool to coax it out) and drill a 1/4" hole opposite the screw through where the blue oval will hide it. If the panel was on the car, and you are looking at it from the back, the hole will be directly below the left mounting hole for the oval near the edge of the oval. The t-20 tool is at a slight angle but removes the screw without any hassle.

I am going through same. thing in my 2012 MKX. Dealer wants $1,100. As well, after I updated the software two months ago, now my camera, which works occasionally, went upside down and occasionally the screen will not allow me to change (e.g., go to navigation; go to radio). So, without updating the software, they said they had to replace the computer component for the screen. Another $1,000. I don't buy any of it.

If you remove 4 of the bolts out of the panel, you can release those clips and open the whole thing up. Then there is a torx head bolt that holds the camera bracket in that way you don't have to cut anything.

Do you have to take your car to the dealership to program the system for the new camera to work? From the video I would say...NO. But I heard that you have to have them program your system for the new camera to work.

nice video....only recommendation 2:33 is do not cut the plastic bracket to remove the camera...there is a t-20 torx screw that should be removed so you dont destroy the braclet that holds the camera....its a pain but doable.

Ron Cappellini how do you get to that screw? Looks inverted so you can't get to it unless you remove the whole emblem frame behind it

Chapman tool with a t-20 torx bit. Its a pain... remove the license plate bulb enclosure for added room....hard to explain but you work it from the back side blindly....it takes super powers, just kidding. Take your time and dont give up....

I didn't calibrate. When I bought my edge the camera was broken so I didn't miss the lines. If you find out how to calibrate please let me know the process

pollorobot69 actually tried that and when I went to follow the process it kept saying I needed to do a self test for DCT(DTC) errors. I couldn’t get around it. Found that all kinds of people are having the same issue on their Ford Edge using FORScan as well. I wish I could get past this as I need to restore the guidelines as well.

As a Ford tech. I can tell you every time I replace a camera it needs to be configured with Ford scanner. I don't know of any other way to get the guide lines after replacing camera

Call your Ford dealer or A Ford dealer and get the part number that is what I did. And I also found the price for the Lincoln camera was more than ford but the part number was the exact same. I found mine on Ebay sold by a Ford Dealer in CT.

You can use some software called forscan to recalibrate to get the guide lines and turning if your vehicle had them. However aftermarket cameras usually don't calibrate I tried a cheap one didn't work had to buy the official Ford one to make it work like new again.

Good vid good tutorial, I know it’s only been a month since you posted this. How is the camera holding up for you? Are there any “lessons learned” from doing this yourself? Anything you could/would have done differently? I am in the same boat with my 2011 Ford Edge Limited. The stealership wants almost $500 to replace/repair ours.

Try this with the engine running Go to Settings- vehicle rear view camera turn off-- camera delay park aid delay guidelines Put the transmission in reverse to see if the camera works then turn back on the three items you turned off.
