2011 Honda VFR 1200F - Classic Review 4K

Hi Andy, got back into biking in 2011, rode an old CBF Honda to see if I could still ride. After 12 months the answer was yes. Bought the VFR 1200 DCT in white in 2012, what a bike, fantastic. I kept the bike for over 4 years, nothing EVER went wrong with it and bought a new Ducati…..which meant numerous trips back to the dealership for electrical gremlins. Yes it was top heavy, the seat was slippy, but I remember it being 175bhp. I put a deflector on the screen which took all the remaining wind off, on the motorway it was like being in a calm air bubble. The downside was you didn’t realise how fast it was, on an empty part of the M62 late at night I looked down on the speedo 143mph, crikey I wasn’t even pulling hard on the throttle. The police used then as pursuit bikes, fast , stable, reliable. I loved the looks of the bike too.

Agree with all that you say. Love the looks and enjoy that mid range thrust it possesses. Speed is exceptionally deceiving.....you could easily lose your licence. Mines in the garage waiting for spring

The weight is hardly an issue and I don't see why so many complained. It's only like 9kg heavier than a BMW K1300 but turns far quicker. The stock suspension can easily be changed. Best bike I've ever owned.

Im 55 kg … 😢 athletic guy… tall..32yo think i would be ok? The weight of some bikes scare me. Im a very calculated person so im not worried about the power i would tour with the wife on the back, not muck about…i only have my licence for 2 month but 25k experience done in one year on a 125. School done on a mt07 felt easy to control…

@@iulianlazar8893 motorcycle curb weight tells very little on how easy a bike is to ride/control. weight is more of a factor at low speeds(under 15ish mph) and pushing it around the garage. the most agile bike i have owned to date is 700+ pounds(sucks to move in the garage). get what you like, learn to ride it safely, enjoy!

The weight was more than the competition at a time when every other new bike was less. The VFR1200 was was OK on it's own but wasn't better than the completion. Add to that the abysmal tank range and it stood out for the wrong reasons.

@@blackk1UK , it is 9kg more than the BMW....... For people who actually ride their bikes reliability is better than some crappy electonics. It also doesn't have the agility of an oil tanker (coughZZR1400coughHyuabusa)

I fitted a Puig black screen - for my height of 6’2” it helped. And it made the bike look better. I tried 2 different seats, settling for a Top Sellerie in the end. Much more comfy and added a little bit of height.

Nice review. Owned a 2011 1200f for the past 3yrs and love it.the bike comes with 1st 2nd and top speed limiters easily removed the bike becomes a missile. Many owners exchange the rear shock out for a Nitron R1 gas shock which transforms the handling. It will be a sad day when I have to part with this bike it's an overlooked gem 👍😊

Yes! This is my favourite series on your channel, thanks for keeping it alive. I remember seeing a chap pull up at the services on one of these when I was 22 and riding a CB125f. To me, at that time, it was the coolest bike I'd seen in the flesh.

On my third Honda motorcycle. First was a 1988 Hawk GT 650 (blue), next I owned a first-year 5th Gen Viffer, a 1998 VFR 800 fi (red). Traded that for a 2010 VFR 1200 f (again red) with the panniers and top box. What can I say, I'm a big fan of Honda's V-motors. Riding on my favorite roads in the mountains outside Denver is always a rush and I have taken the big Viffer on two +3,000 mile tours here in the U.S. Never had a problem with anything. It just works. The only mods are a Corbin seat, Heli bars and a taller windscreen. The stock exhaust is just fine, fuel economy is in 40-45 mpg range and fuel tank capacity has never been an issue because there is always a gas station coming up. Thanks for posting the ride review, Mr. Flyer. It was most entertaining.

I commuted to work year round on one for a couple of years from 2016, it was the DCT version and I loved it, it was an absolute missile! Only the thirst, range and maintenance costs let it down.

Thanks for the review. I remember buying this bike when first came out..people were moaning the small fuel tank and the somewhat divisive look at the front… they weren’t selling well.. Got mine in white, with full panniers.. did 45k happy miles…amazing bike.. smooth, solid, forgiving, subtle and capable.. did not let me once in any position… on and off the road.. it’s a gentlemen’s bike.. I miss it dearly.. got 4 bikes after her.. not one came close. If anything..I regret not buying another one but the ride was sportier than my aging back can accommodate these days.

I always loved the look of this bike. It's well different to all other Hondas, styled by an Italian designer, but it looks timeless. It hasn't dated which is not something you can say about most bikes.

Back in 2015 I bought a new Pan European ST1300 instead of the VFR 1200 simply because the Pan has a much more relaxed comfortable riding position, I'm six foot four.I still own the ST1300 and love it I'll never sell it.Great video by the way I like your none biased reviews keep up the good work.

I was considering the ST1300 and was close to pulling the trigger but it was really heavy (and couldn’t view bikes during height of Covid) but when things got better I stumbled upon a VFR1200 DCT and haven’t looked back since. Bulletproof indeed

I've had two(bronze, red) , both DCT and if they still made them I would have a new version in a flash. They are heavy, until you start moving then very svelt. Not sure that people who knock them have even ridden one , journalists who looked at the numbers and made a decision I reckon. It will out accelerate pretty much anything, especially the DCT as it's instant. Two up camping to Isle Of Man for 2 weeks no problems (Full GT version panniers and box). 18.1 litre tank will happily do 200 miles on a motorway two up at 80mph. Not so good fizzing arround town and traffic lights drags, but hey ho. If you do get one, get 2012 onwards as they have Traction Control and ABS. I am only 5'7'' and it fits nicely.

It is such a wonderful bike. I am riding it 13 years long today. The seat has been the sorriest detail, totally unworth such an high class bike. Had it remade teared and hard as wood in less than two years. The suspensions are only 'meh' for my country's average roads and I putted the whole Öhlins setup which is clearly expensive but makes the bike really even better as a sports tourer. Yes it has a fine ABS. Only from 2013 model on it was geared with Traction Control (it had originallybthe first two gears tamed from the injection computer). Great review on a cool bike, I’ve bought a couple of VFR’s which had covered 70-80k miles and they still rode perfectly. The V4 is a great engine that Ariel use in their bikes.

At least here in Scandinavia those were ridiculously expensive to buy and to insure, and the smaller VFR really gave a better riding experience as it was more nimble without losing any significant amount of comfort. A real riders bike, without the electronics that my generation of riders don´t want as we have survived for decades without and are quite happy to continue without for as long as we are able to get on a bike. Those Honda fourcylinders are in my opinion the best ever bike engines. And that 1200 would now be a great buy as a used, there propably are bargains out in the market by now. Really like your classic series, please keep it up and Happy New Year!

I have a 2011 DCT model bought in 2016. It fitted me ok but I added helibars, corbin seat and Givi screen to make it perfect for me. Its a rocket and handles great on fast B roads with my ZZR14 riding mates. We fuel up together at 150mls so its no different fuel wise to the ZZR14. Its not as powerful as those bikes but can still hold its own with them which is why my mates rate it. The suspension needs to be dialled in for best use obviously and I've found the best settings for fast road use and two up touring through trial and error. Its not a heavy bike on the move, again similiar to the ZZR14. Build quality is superb as are the brakes. I'm a home mechanic and find the bike pretty easy to work on. I could get a ZZR14 but to what end. A very under rated, very fast, very reliable and very cheap second hand bike nowadays. Its a no brainer if you're in the market for such a machine. I'm holding onto mine. Graham VFR also does good reviews on KZbin of the bike. Thanks for your review.

I bought a deeply discounted DCT version in 2012, still love it. Nice review. This was also the first motorcycle available with a Dual-Clutch Transmission. Interesting point missed is the V-4 arrangement, the forward cylinders are outside the rear two cylinders. Make sure there is a dot punched on the VIN - that will indicate the drive shaft recall has been performed. I believe I hold the shaft-drive land-speed record on mine, 178.xxx mph at Loring Maine a few years ago, fun

The VFR 1200 was unique with the DCT option. A true automatic bike. The problem was it came out just after the crash of 2008 when motorcycle sales dropped through the floor. I was riding an ST1300 and would have switched to the VFR 1200 DCT if Honda had included an adjustable windshield, cruise control, traction control and heated grips and seat. I waited until 2015 and bought a BMW K1600GT. 125K miles later the love affair continues...

It was really bad promoted by Honda and fell into the 2008 - 2010 crysis and extintion of the sport tourer segment in favor of 'Adventure bikes'. Then they seemed they did not believe in it to in est in the updates to make it Euro 4 ready (which they did with the 130hp VFR1200X Adventure edition of the bike). I am waiting for the new model one day. More so after seeing the new Suzuki Hayabusa

I have a generation one VF700F Interceptor circa 1984 in red, white and blue. Nicely restored. I owned an 84' VF750F Interceptor back in the late 80's when I was a United States Marine. Stupidly sold it when leaving active duty. Bought the 700 as a nostalgia piece. Just had to have it. I also own one of these beauties. A 2013 VFR1200F in Black and Silver. With the DAM exhaust, heated grips, ABS, traction control etc. I love this machine and don't mind the weight. As soon as you sit on it, she stands up on her own since the center of gravity is so low. I'm 58 and feel like I'm in my twenties riding this beast. Love it. Happy New Year from across the big pond!

Definitely a different bike and almost strange to call it a VFR. It was an entirely new machine and the name confused many. It was never called an interceptor though. That was the name for the original bike and the one that came after the 1200

I had one of these in 2012, I've been looking forward to this review. Mine had traction control which was pretty damn new at the time, full ABS and I had the heated grips put on. Also whipped that exhaust straight off and had a de-cat akropovic put on. The fuel was never an issue for me, I took it to France a few times and found the consumption real good

Hi Andy, nice review mate. I was one of those mugs that bought one new in 2010-a 1200FDA dual clutch model-and Ive since racked up over 150,00km on this particular motorcycle(3 bikes in total, all 2010 FDA models-that's another story in itself) My riding includes longish day rides/touring stints, with the odd track day thrown in for good measure. I do all my own services, so cost of maintenance is not an issue-although checking valve clearances is literally an all day affair. I still get the odd confused look from punters when they pull up beside me after a spirited ride on tight back roads and discover it's an "automatic". Main points are: * Rear shock pre-load adjuster is an absolute pain to use with gloves on, had one seize ,but changed under warranty. * Front brakes are superb-only ever use OEM pads, as they wear quickly but perform as expected, even on track days *Seat was very slippery , making it an unpleasant place to be for any pillion- this was easily fixed by fitting a custom sheep-skin seat cover. * Fuel economy improves with time-I'm averaging 280-320km before I chicken out and start looking for fuel. Track days, of course are another matter-it is a 1200cc motorcycle after all. *The old girl's hard on tyres if you push on- totally understandable as its a heavy bugger. Totally happy with this bike, but I must concede that I haven't sampled many other bikes in this class It seems that Sports Tourers have morphed into Adventure Bikes these days, which probably isn't a bad thing,but I guess I'll be hanging on to this one for a few more years yet Cheers

Ive ridden the VFR1200F for about 1,5 years. It was all in all a fantastic bike and i loved it. The biggest problems for me were the to short range, only between 220 / 250 km. And the low speed fueling is kinda bad. Had to use the clutch way to much to modulate the throttle with hairpin turns and slow roundabouts.

Nice review, so glad you did this one. I got into biking around the same time and I dreamed of this bike too. I was so angry at the journalists who seemed to treat it so unfairly. The looks are smashing, the engine stonking and the size is good for me at 185cm.

I was deciding between that and a 1000sx. I went with the sx because the clip ons were too low for me. Bar risers on my 1000sx made it perfect. VCR is absolutely beautiful.

When talking about Sport Touring Bikes, everyone always mentions the weight. My Yamaha FJR1300 is also heavy. But, at 130 mph it feels just as steady and smooth as it is at 60 mph. I believe it's the weight that makes it feel as planted as it does. This VFR1200 is going to be my next bike I add to my collection. The only 3 things I see against the VFR1200 is no adjustment on the windscreen, no glove box for my garage door opener and no cruise control.

Same as you Andy, I always liked this bike a lot from when it came out and I wanted it. The final concept drawings for it, pre production, that were revealed in MCN prior to the bike coming out were even better looking. When it finally came out I remembered the drawings and thought that Honda had "missed" a bit compared to the final look....The production bike, when it came, was criticised for what was really a very small fuel tank, even just that, at the time put me off. I was into doing long distance at the time and it put me off. The weight of it also surprised me a little, officially 267kg! which I thought was very heavy even for the time for a bike this type. I still do like it though, good review.

Miss Fly this is a truly great review!!! I too have always loved this bike but never got near one until last year when I asked my mate (UK Yamaha dealer Alf England in the Midlands) to find me one. Martin took some time (cos by choice he never wanted them in the shop!!) and he found me a great example, a 2013 bike with the manual gearbox and with the 24k mile service done. Wow. 170 horses, shaft drive, super quality and the larger tank so a decent range too. I covered Europe before selling the bike to a mate, we will meet in France again twice this year (Le Mans and then Bol Dor) so she is still going strong, AMAZING bike!!!

I had a VFR 1200 a few years ago , it was a heavy bike to manhandle in and out the garage, I found it hard on my wrists when riding bit out weighing all the negatives it was so quick and it put a smile on my face . I sometimes wish I hadn’t traded it in . I now have a BMW f800 GT and I miss the extra horses but the bm is loads lighter and does the job for now anyway.

Gorgeous looking bike to my eyes. Also a "poster bike" from my younger days. I tested a few a couple of years ago when looking for an all day tourer. The V4 engine is an absolute gem. I finally chose a BMW R1200RS. Weight, range and suspension settled it for me. So many lovely choices out there for great well priced sports touring bikes.

I owned a VFR800 for 8 years. I tried to upgrade it to 1200. Biggest issue i had was the lack of traction contol and engine management in bad weather. With 170hp without TC you will need to be super soft on the revs. I have had dozen near crashes on metall manhole covers and big white stripes all over Europe. I tried to get a testride a few times but the stores wouldn't release one of the bikes for testride because the premium price. Honda was very late in the game with adding TC to their bikes. It was done 2014.

Stonking bike did many thousands of miles on one. Only downside for me was the tank range and it's a thirsty beast. That V4 engine is amazing, such a shame it's no longer in product in a modern Sports tourer.

I have a 2012 in the blue. The the bike has an exhaust and a tune. She is an absolute monster! I also have a 2020 bmw S1000rr M. It's actually amazing that I don't miss the power of the s1krr when I ride the honda. The honda is just such an amazing bike that even the mighty 2020 s1krr seems like a small step up. I call the VFR1200F a sport bike thats perfect to tour on. Add cruise control from MC cruise and OEM heated grips and you have the ideal sport touring beast!

I've had one of these and they were supposedly intended(by Honda), as the replacement for the Blackbird (of which I've had 2), but they most definitely were not. They had their good point, but were at least 50+kgs too heavy, so they didn't handle as well, nor did they go as well. The only + point over the Blackbird was the ABS system. As usual with Honda, they were well put together.

I had a VF700F and VFR750 way back in my 20s and early 30s. I thought about one of these when I got back into riding but ultimately the weight put me off. I also decided that I wanted all the electronic nannies given I hadn't ridden in quite a long time. Thanks for reviewing this one.

I owned a VFR750 FP (last of the 750, prior to 800) back in 1997. It was an amazing bike. Superb build quality, Gear driven cams, etc, Honda at their best.

The older White models always seem to fade to a dull Yellow in my experience, so would have to be a Blue for me, plus I've never quite decided on if I should opt for the DCT or Manual version, so haven't actually bought One yet, but it is on my list of bikes to review too, I do love a big V4 bike 😁

The manual box is decent. However if the dct solved the heavy clutch and low speed throttle response the dct would be my choice second time around.

I owned a 1995 VFR750, which was the best sports tourer I ever had. The VFR800 was a good upgrade with fuel injection and was similar in weight and useful power as the 750 but I could never see the point of adding the extra engine size and weight of this one. Such a shame - if it aint broke don't fix it.

Hi TMF. Having owned two of these machines over 4 years, I found your review to be entirely spot-on. Yes, with subjective looks, a limited tank range, basic electronics and quite heavy handling at lower speeds, they're not to everyone's taste. What the bike does offer, however, greatly outways its shortcomings, such as its exceptional build quality, high speed comfort and a smooth, powerful power plant. Thanks again for your excellent unbiased review. Brings back many great memories.

Good review Andy mine is 2013 model had it just over year my view is best vfr model had most models in the the vfr range from 2012 onwards they came with traction control and a slightly larger fuel tank and a seat is more padded its well under rated bike in my view . Yes the the fuel range is not great but rest of the bike makes up for it , clutch is heavy but not a real problem build quality is top notch , brakes and handling is excellent dont find the weight a issue .The vfr 1200f is as good as a modern bike at a fraction off the price mine was low mileage when i got only done 5 thousand its now on 10 thousand ride from mid march to mid october dont go in the wet only if i get caught out !! Do keep the classic reviews coming andy have a good new year and more miles next season .

Hugely underrated. Lead a tour to Spain and Portugal in 2012 when a mate followed on one. Effortlessly ate the miles. Just a bit juicy. Safe, happy travels 👍

I bought a new one when they came out, the panniers and top box were an extra £1,300- six weeks later Honda started giving the luggage system away free! They marketed it poorly. I bought one a secondhand one with DCT in 2014, Honda have developed the DCT since- the VFR1200F was the original bike it was available on and by then they had stopped developing it. Very quick bike but range if riding normally was about 125-135 miles, the Blackbird was normally 160-175 miles and it was also a very quick bike. The competitors were BMW K1300S and Kawasaki ZZR1400, both were faster and had better range. However the quality of the Honda was unmatched. The only real complaint I had was that the front brake pads used to stick to the front disks after riding in rain or even damp conditions. As a secondhand bike now it’s a bargain

Been waiting for this one. Thank you! I have a 2010 in red. The paint is amazing in the sunshine. Had it reflashed to clear up the low speed jerkiness in 1st and 2nd. It doesn’t look 12 years old from a design standpoint.

I thought the VFR was perchy, top heavy holding it's massive weight really high it was a huge disappointment, as I really fancied one.

You missed the big benefit of those air scoops and fairings. They’re double layer and do an amazing job of taking nearly 100% off the heat away from your legs. I own one and love it. Even bought a VFR 1200X for multi day, two up touring.

I think that these bikes have aged really well - looking better today than back in 2010 imho. Problem with them was the timing, just after the financial crash, they replaced a much loved Blackbird and the looks were marmite. As a riding machine, I'd expect it to be very good...

Nice review of an often overlooked Honda sports touring bike. I'm in So Cal and ride my 2013 black metallic 1200 F with a big smile my face year round . Only mods are WERKS exhaust and tail eliminator to save a few lbs, looks and sounds much sportier. I bought it a couple of years ago with only 2k miles the clock for half of sticker price. That was the big reason they did not sell that well here, the dealer I got mine from told me he had to sell the new ones at a big discount. A beautiful bike with traction control, liked ABS brakes, a slipper clutch, shaft drive etc.Thanks for the review

Owned one for the past 11 years zero faults or failures. It is not a heavy bike, you just have to be fit enough to move it. There are lots of older riders with Goldwings so how do they move them? On a similar note the seat is fine. 300 miles is easy. Haven't rode too many sports tourers with an armchair, so not sure what you are talking about.

Wow... you're not going to believe this but just last night I was on Facebook Market looking for vfrs either the VFR 800, or the vfr1200... love those bikes. I have mentioned to you in past post that I have a 2001 Honda Shadow Ace vt750, and a 2004 Honda ST1300, and as of a month ago I just picked up a Suzuki GSXR 600. I don't know about europe, but here in America the few guys that I know that have VFR 1200s have sent the ecu's out to be flashed and they're putting out between 170 and 175 horsepower, and that's pretty amazing the strong powerful big good riding bike. I've just brought a 2015 vfr1200 with under 20k miles. Its was a poster bike for me as well so ill be holding on to mine for as long as I can and being 6'3" it should be a nice size for me. I as looking at a CBXX Super blackbird but VFR just seemed a better buy right now.

Shame the roads were slippery. A big part of the very positive impression I got from my 1 hour test ride from P&H in Crawley in 2012 was the phenomenal braking ability with superb feel and perfect balance front/rear. If you’re on a heavy bike like that it really adds to the fun if you know you have enough control over it to not only shoot off the line but also to stop on command to a predetermined point with finely measured control down to zero. Blew my mind. They had TC as well from 2012 I believe not sure if it was std or optional. Why didn’t I buy one? Sloping gravel drive with a home made ramp up to shed and only 67 of your English inches on offer. May still get one if I can find some iron to pump first.

It was 15°C today. Normally I would have done a ride on my bike 😢but not today. Bloody weather: rain and more rain and heavy wind gusts. It’s a great looking bike indeed. Having one mirror blocked would be very much forbidden here in NL. My Honda CBF1000A is also build in 2011. A very simple bike. The only electronic aid is ABS. Happy new year

I remember these coming out, many people thought it'd be a replacement for the much loved s.blackbird. It wasn't as good a sports tourer, it's looks were marmite, it's was very heavy, it wasn't good on fuel and was viewed as a disappointment. It was a massive shame, the vfr750 / vfr800 were super successful, looked good and were great all round bikes. A much anticipated bike fell below expectations and older riders who often liked them found out they couldn't cope with the weight - they were hard to sell.

As stock out of the factory they are just an okay nice bike but with a remap and a tune it is an exceptional bike and can put hundreds of miles under its wheels and be comfortable and exhilarating

It was marketed against the BMW K1200S and GT versions. More HP and Lighter with much more accessories. The Honda only sold for a little over 10,000USD. They were discounted to 8500 USD and they couldn't give them away. They were on the website for sale in 2016. They didn't lose any weight in the meantime.

Enjoyed the video. I was very tempted to buy one of these when they first came out, I was even at the press event at Grantham Honda. But it ended up being a victim of its own success, everyone wanted a proper 1000cc 90 degree V4 sports tourer with great looks. But unfortunately the VFR12 is too heavy, the fuel range is terrible, it lacks even the most basic features like heated grips, let alone a proper trip computer, adjustable suspension etc, plus they went for a 76 degree V4 which totally ruined the trademark sound that everyone loved.. Compared to something like the FJR, which is way more comfortable and features electronically adjustable screen, suspension, LED cornering lights, slipper clutch, massive fuel range (I could go on), there's absolutely no comparison unfortunately. By the way Andy, the FJR also has a shaft drive! Take care and happy new year!

V4 on this video. What happened to V5? I looked at buying the VFR1200 in 2012 and decided against it for a number of reasons. The main two were the screen (non-adjustable) and the seating position. Other problems were, as you mentioned, the lack of items found on touring motorcycles like heated grips and the size of the fuel tank. I wasn't looking for TCS or other electronics, just items that would make long distance touring more comfortable. What many others in the same market really wanted and Honda stupidly didn't realise this was an upgraded Pan (ST1300). Instead they brought out the CTX1300 which was an utter disaster.

Like these a lot. Doesn't feel heavy on the move but no lightweight to push around on slopes. Shaft drive a bonus BUT many incorrectly forget shaft drives can need maintenance &/or go wrong. Nearly bought a 2012 (slight changes from that year ) recently. As with any bike...the right tyres can make a huge difference. Peg position caused my left RST Paragon 2 boot to get caught on the bike so would need to rethink chosen footwear for this bike. Not brilliant on MPG...Such costs do factor for those who have to factor fuel costs in ownership. Ongoing surgical procedures (relative to manual handling & restricted home parking access), unfortunately made me put plans on hold. Happy New Year Andy🥳

I looked at getting one these last year but went for the crosstourer instead. It's been great on the long trips I've done but after the NW200 in 2023 I'll be moving on. The v4 engine is great but they aren't as good an all rounder as the vfr750 IMO. I bet superbike factory love lending you bikes Andy, I'm sure they get a full deep clean before going back 😁

Great review, Andy. Always thought the 1200F was an opportunity missed by Honda. So many positives, as you list (engine, shaft drive, build quality), but scuppered by its weight, too small a tank (to make it a serious tower) and lack of standard features. I have a slightly older 6th Gen VFR800, which I love (maybe get a review on one of those, to get your thoughts on VTEC? I love the VTEC myself) and the reason I went that way over the 1200 was lower weight (still bloody heavy for a mid size bike😳) and styling (love the under tail pipes, leaving a clear view of that wheel). Keep up the great work on the classic series!!

I'm puzzled by the constant talk of not enough range for a serious tourer, I had an 800fi before the 12 and its got about the same range. The 800 isn't as comfortable or anywhere near as quick, it's still a great bike. In reality the 1200 only feels heavier than the 800 at a standstill, it is very well balanced and as soon as its moving the weight disappears. Having done a 2600 mile tour on the 1200 this year I can tell you it's perfect for touring, it was comfier and untaxed compared to the 800 when I did the NC500 on it.

I just started riding about 3 years ago. First motorcycle was a Harley Sportster 883... I now have a 02 Triumph Tiger 995...but the VFR 1200 was the motorcycle that really caught ny eye. I thought it was too big for me as a beginner rider. Im wondering if im seasoned enough for a motorcycle like this now. I ride ny Tiger to work everyday so i have been constantly learning and growing as a Rider.. same as i did my Sportster.

I had one, and every time I went out on her, it felt like an adventure from the off! One day, I decided to just touch the brake while going slowly around a sweeping 'A' Class road bend: she just sat upright and tried to put me in a hedge. It all came together, just north of 70 mph, which is licence worrying territory. I do miss it though, and I would get another!

My first ever bike was a VFR 750 it sadly died against the side of an audi A6. I bought a vfr1200f as second bike, a lock down commuter. It was a decent ride but had some vices. No traction control with a 160hp could be lively on slippery bucks backroads. The thing was a beast on fast A roads and motorways. In white a lot of cars thought it was a police bike and got out of the way. A ton felt like 50 which left me worried about my licence. The linked brakes are effective if with limited feel. It wasn't very rewarding to ride hard on bumpy back roads. I'm tall and found the pegs a bit high I'd look for longer rearsets. In town and for extended filtering it was a pain. Quite a heavy clutch and very tall first gear. The early digital fueling is poor with a very snatchy response in first, which made keeping things calm over rough central London roads in 20 zones frankly a pain. As a long distance tourer it was great although thirsty with a small tank. After 2 years I swapped it for an 08 ktm 990 adv. Personally if dabbling in that segment again I'd look at the VFR 800 or a BMW K1300s but the latter do have reliability issues. I think it's a different proposition to the more upright FJR etc.
