@jorgeherter4 жыл бұрын
@@rmsvmax It's the NDX 700 I think you're referring to. That bike is crazy for a number of reasons. One is I think they took a Honda fit car motor, cut it in half and stuck it in a bike. It's got a helmet locker where the gas tank normally is, and the tank us under the seat for better weight distribution, keeping the center of gravity low. All of this is interesting, except I don't know if a car motor would rev the way I like. When that little kawi hits 5k revs, turns into a ninja and just wants to go, man that is a helluva feeling. I do like Honda and I think they're coming out with a smaller Africa Twin, which would have that DCT and the long travel suspension I want for the crap roads here in Mexico...however, importation fees would cost an arm and leg on a new bike. It will be a shit ton to import my current bike, or I could just go with a Suzuki V-Strom 650 or a Yamaha Tennere 700 because they are the only ones available here. However, because of the pandemic I haven't been able to contact the company that makes the special lever I need....maybe they won't exist when this is all over.

@@jorgeherter You're referring to the Honda NC700X. I've had my 2016 since new. Love it. It is *false* the engine is a "cut in half" Honda Fit car motor. The unicam and crankshaft is so unique to this motorcycle. The crankshaft and firing order is like an I-4 and it has a narrower bank of cylinders under the rider to make it even more compact. Honda really flexed their engineering trickery on the VFR and no one talks about it. Also, you can get DCT, which is badass.

I got the DCT as well and I bought it because I found a stupid low mileage example and I was thinking, too bad it was DCT. Right now I would not go for regular. The biggest thing for me is, the DCT makes this bike commuter friendly. This crazy powerful bike drives like a scooter in D. It goes all the way to 6th gear in the city, keeps you from driving like a maniac and the fuel economy is acceptable. Switch it to S or paddle and it turns into an animal. I kept the original exhaust which keeps it nice and torquey at low revs in higher gears in the city. This is a perfect bike that was totally misunderstood by the press and the market.

Very thoughtful review of a DCT. I found the biggest plus was that stop and go traffic didn't wear me out anymore. I have impared use of my left arm (nerve damage, wasting, and reduced circulation because of it), so sometimes my LH fingers cramp so bad they don't work properly. Pulling back your whole arm to work the clutch aint fun! Other positves. -Lightning-fast upshifts and downshifts. -You can never downshift too far because it won't let you. -No chafing on the top of your shoe -All shifts are smooth, so no knocking helmets with pillion. The only thing missing on my 17 AT was cruise control. It seemed silly having to use a throttle lock with the DCT. I was looking really closely at a used VFR1200 DCT. The price was right, but none of the earler DCT models had CC.

E P I think it does something fancy with the combined (linked) brakes. The first movement on the rear pedal only activates the rear for slow speed manoeuvres and only when you press it harder does it pull the front too. The windshield was amazingly effective. On a twisty mountain ride I could wear out the front tire before the rear, because when pushed, it would push the front. I have this bike in manual and I love it. My hour commute to work is mostly highway which is why I got it. It is planted and a rocket on the straights. Although it's trail and heft make it beatable in the twisties it is still comfortable and thrilling. The paint and whole package is awesome quality except for the brutal OEM seat... Overall though, I believe it is top shelf and this review was spot on. Slainte, C. in the Hammer, Ontario.

Just baught a DCT. Alot of options. One is a aftermarket seat. I was going to chase down a OEM one. Are they shit? I love OEM. Has a akra pipe yet I've already got a OEM exhaust on the way. Seat is uncomfortable but?

I had a 2010 VFR1200F for a couple years, that I did about 30,000 kms touring on. Its an awesome riding machine but for one fatal flaw...the range is awful, Honda really dropped the ball on a machine that was marketed as a sport tourer. I ran out of gas 4 times in the time I had it, due to my own stupidity of not stopping for gas before hitting 150 or so km’s on the trip odometer and assuming I’d find gas before running out, or just because I wanted to keep riding as far as I could on a tank and then getting caught out...by 250kms you know you’re in trouble and by 260 you’re on the side of the road. There are many places where you can find yourself when touring where you can go over 100kms and not find gas (unless you stick to main highways and interstates or plan very carefully). Sold it and bought an FJR and couldn’t be happier, 95%of the VFRs engine and handling for all practical purposes, 400 kms minimum range guaranteed so zero range anxiety, better comfort, better wind protection, cruise control, and regular fuel instead of premium....Loved my VFR for its good points, but couldn’t live with the miserable range.
@RacerJuan425 жыл бұрын
mike a exactly, I know what you mean, there are lots of isolated areas in the west where 250-260km range just doesn’t cut it, unless you’re willing to stop every 150km or less to fill up....if you don’t, eventually it catches you dry. I wasn’t willing to stop that often and the range anxiety was real😝... hence why the VFR1200 went bye bye.😁
@AW8UK2 жыл бұрын
I know FJR has bigger tank capacity & range but K1300s capacity only 0.5 litre more and VFR is the same as K1300s from 2012. I guess a lot depends on where folk ride realtive to open gas/fuel stations.

Hey in the UK this bike was a total sales flop, avoided by dealers cos they did not wanna lose their shirt. Also the original bikes ran out of fuel at 120 miles which made the "tourer" title a little lame. Last year I purchased a 2013 VFR with the manual transmission and boy did she blow me away, I have owned an FJR1300 (which remains a better long distance bike as she has loads of fuel on board) but the VFR is soooooo fast I found myself at way too high speeds!!! GREAT fun.

Hi, just bought a bone stock 2014 dct Vfr1200 with 14k kms. I previously owned a 2011 fireblade. I bought the vfr even without a test ride, as the bike was in mint condition. The only issue is I am really not happy with the slow power delivery and jerky ride at low speeds, also it definitely doesn't feel like a 170bhp 1200cc motorcycle and gas mileage is even worst. I am really disappointed as I had an option to pick the Busa too. My question is, if I flash the ecu and replace the stock exhaust with a full system make a big difference? I don't want to sell it for this reason and also it's been just a month that I picked it.
@gillianzag11746 ай бұрын
probably too late for you but for others having the same dilemma, going by feedback from those who had their ECU flashed, it removes significant power restriction in lower gears and lower rev band and improves the jerkiness at slow speeds at a slight expense of top end.

And the VFR was overpriced....here in australia at over $20k for the peasant pack...no thanks.

Honda marketed the CM 400A and the CB 750A in the 70's. They employed a two speed torgue converter transmission that was effective but sluggish, and didn't exactly catch fire on the sales floor. As effective as the DCT is I I can live without the extra weight, complexity, and price. Manual shifting and clutching are one of the attractions of riding motorcycles.

Front brake pads stuck to the discs if left in the damp overnight (made burnouts easy though). Callipers stuck as piston rusted Two sets of front calipers were replaced under warranty. And a pair of front discs.under warranty. And the rear shock used to seize up when it got hot. Replaced by Honda as a goodwill gesture, not on warranty. Hateful, hateful piece of shit. Best autobox bike I ever rode was the Aprilia Mana. Have it twist n go, or change manually by thumb switch or by normal foot change. Brilliant-if only the bike didn't look so awful.

I think my Kawasaki ZX12R was the best, and fastest sport-tourer out there. Fast, solid and extremely stable up to 170 mph, with linear torque in abundance. Too damn easy to go and stay fast. I do like big sleds. I loved my FJ 1200, ultra comfortable, but no where near the beast or stable. The first generation Goldwing 1800, that I rented for four days with that engine was was a true sport-tourer for me, two up. I could drift it, easily pull away from the Ferrari on highway 101 on the coast, that was chasing me/trying to keep up with after the road straightened up with a slight twist of the wrist, when he thought he could get me in the corners, two up and loaded with gear. Best of all, I could easily cover ground, doing 17 hours a day, 3,000 miles in 4 days. I took my 85 FZ 750 with slightly raised bars up to 1,200 miles on one day, and it was the single most painful day of my life. Ironbutt on a Goldwing must be a piece of cake. ;-)
