When I first saw commercials for this Jeep, I thought that Jeep had killed itself. However, after watching this, I can see that it's stronger than ever. This was 100% impressive, amazing video Dan.

I have a Wrangler (JKU) and a Grand and laughing at your post; pretty true. They are two different beasts. For long trips, the GC is light years more comfortable than the JK, but the JK is a beast off-road. My JK is modified and sits on 35" tires, while the GC is stock, so they also ride totally different on pavement.

@SwellerGibbon3 Thanks for the kind words! We're hoping to get into the big Dodge and Ford at some point, but nothing concrete yet ... stay tuned!

@yoyowassuppp i had the same issue as well as the diffs and uni body, but we have to realize that the Grand Cherrokee came out as a family, yet off road able SUV never meant for extreme mud bogging or rock crawling. The new GC is superb for its intended purpouse.Climb up the steep mountain over some big rocks, bash through mud and puddles then get everyone back down safely. hopefully lockers wull come later TC will do for now though

Nice video, my only problem with this Jeep is that incredibly small nav screen.

Wow, a car with those advanced features that are easy to control. More companies should go for that nice simple control panel the suspension controls have. Very well done jeep.

@flatblackstrat Thanks, FBS! I only had the time to drive the Grand Cherokee on the trails ... it was at a press event and crazy as it may seem, I drove it back-to-back with the Nissan Leaf EV. I'm hoping to get a GC on the schedule soon, so we can do our standard road testing. Jeep did a great job with it, all around. Just wish they had a diesel option.

Distance from the ground to the lowest point under the truck will always be the same,and you won't get any more ground clearance until you upgrade to taller tires. Unless somehow the air suspension also has the effect of raising the differentials, transmission,and transfercase higher off the ground too. Would be interesting to see the underside of the truck raising and lowering to see if there is an increase in ground clearance, or it just gets taller, keeping the bumpers and rockers above rocks
@stormer109213 жыл бұрын
this is every day trails around here. but i give the 2011 props most new trucks have less ground clearance.

I love my 2011 jeep grand Cherokee limited with it's 5.7 hemi! Most capable vehicle I've ever owned
@rangerover06sc12 жыл бұрын
The do raise the transmission, transfercase and the differentials. As the Suspension fills with compressed air, it raises everything but the lowest part of the control arms. That's how independent air suspension works. Its not like one of those kits you some times see where the body is just higher.

Cool video on the Jeep Dan. I lost a TON!!! of confidence in Chrysler when I bought my Nitro here in Japan and had it break 6 times the first year I owned it. So did the do this car right? Does it actually feels like a car on the road and a capable off roader when off roading? Also I heard the interior on this is supposed to be pretty amazing. What did you think?
@jerryison200314 жыл бұрын
nice video. it would have been even more interesting probly if there was a camera being held outside to show it as it drives through the different terrain.

@atgskater14 I haven't driven an older Grand Cherokee off-road, but overall the 2011 is a huge step up.

I got to test drive the '11 Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. Basically, a Range Rover or Land Rover is simply much better. I know they cost more, but it's like saying, "I want to go to the race track with a car that is designed to handle well. I think I'll take a Cobalt SS over an M3." The Sorento is also a good option in this class, and it is made in the U.S. The engines for the Sorento are made in the U.S. as well, while the Hemi V8 is made in Mexico. I like your reviews, though.

great video!! I've been looking for those videos of new cherokee for a whole month now... Good job! Will you be testing new dodge ram 2500 cummins and maybe powerwagon? And how about new ford HD? Just out of curiosity how they perform on your test, because silverado 2500HD did awsome job! Thanks, again!

So how does it get more ground clearance without installing taller tires? Maybe better approach angle they should say.

Unfortunately, the 2011 Grand Cherokee is a step backwards in AWD functionality. The previous Jeep Grand Cherokee had both front and rear electronic locking differentials. As mentioned in the video Jeep has eliminated the front electronic locker going to the cheaper less effective brake biasing system.

Own one. Ground clearance is still on the negative side for these things, the engine and drivetrain are otherwise solid. Not made for hardcore offroading nor mudding, get an older model for those kind of job

@RaguelAngelofBalance the whole system...bad idea for jeep to adopt it. its not very reliable in general and if you damage one air bag, line, or pump, the whole system shuts down. plus the fact the jeep owners are known for modifying their rigs and that system pretty much kills that idea for grand cherokee owners. i love the new design and most everything about it except for the terrain select and air bag systems

The 3.6 does blow ass but the 5.7 is a damn good engine. All I've seen in my shop were 3.6 vehicles coming back with problems. Chrysler fucked up big time on them, they're litfters are like plastic. If you buy anything new from Chrysler, stay the hell away from the pentastar and get the hemi.

@truebassB12 жыл бұрын
The industry goes forward,and most of the buyers doesn't give a damn about Off Roading as they want comfort,good economy,and a nice vehicle,but apparently some guys here do because it's called "Cherokee". I would even love a good durable roomy Crossover like Cherokee,Durango,etc,even FWD and with 2.0 or 1.6 Diesel,just to have torque and HP to keep up to a highway speed,nothing more. Either stick to this or stick to the old Dinosaurs that you consider better,and most importantly stop whining.
