I own a 2011 Mazda2 and I love it! It's lots of fun to drive, and with the 5-speed manual I'm averaging 34.5 MPG with about a 50/50 mix of city and highway driving. I think your opinions about its performance will change greatly once you actually drive one! I have no problems with knee room or the paint rubbing off of the door handle. And you're supposed to raise the headrest before getting into the back seat. Not the best design, but it doesn't block your view when the seat is unoccupied.

I brought a 2010 Mazda 2 last wk. I can actually say I love it everything about. Small neat and everything I need. So I don't know what you are talking about. You would turn off anyone from buying one especially a first time buyer

Poor review. You complain about horsepower & torque not being enough, but you fail to realize this car is much lighter than competitors so it is very quick. Also you failed to raise the rear headrest, so shame on you for complaining about the design. It's clever because it goes down to increase rear visibility. You are also wrong about Fiesta having more interior room. Finally, a comprehensive review includes a DRIVE. Had you actually driven it, you would have been very impressed with quickness and handling, which is superior to it's competition. It's a better DRIVERS car than anything in it's class. This car was not made for sitting in the parking lot at Hertz!

What's up Taco? Just set up this crappy google account for work at first, but haven't taken the time to figure out how to contact people thru it. Do I need to create a Gmail account for that? This G+ is very disjointed and weird. Hit me back!

The Mazda2 is actually faster than the Fiesta because it's lighter in weight (only 2300 lbs.). The Touring trim level has a lot of interior upgrades, including cloth padded door panels.

This is the best compact car!!! you get the most for your money, 40+ MPG, and it is really fun to drive!!!

I hope you can do a test drive of a Mazda2, preferably with the 5-speed manual!

I test drove one of these a 2014 one for an entire hour on the high way and in city and the car was actually quite peppy in my opinion it didn't seem to have any trouble getting up to speed at all. it was the 4 speed auto and it seemed fine it was actually kind of fun to drive. considering buying it 😊

I use to drive one before it was wrecked. It couldn't get up a hill without screaming at you and loosing momentum. But besides that it was reliable and fun to drive, hearing that motor sound was great. Btw those rear neck rest move all the way up, my guess they go down into the seat is because it block your rear view mirror vision.

Did you consider that they used hard plastic to reduce the weight of the vehicle?

The powertrain and chassis are the same for both trim levels.

Nice review! I think you did a thorough job of explaining all the shortcomings. Mazda 2 was never on my list when buying a car, because of the engine/transmission combo, and the too cheap interior.

Yeah mine had the Vulcan. The engine had a nice sound and was very reliable. It was just slower than molasses

Looking back, I don't think this even competed with the fiesta. It was more of a chevy spark competitor in terms of size because thee fiesta and the others y'all mentioned look much bigger.
@BobUy0011 жыл бұрын
You know, thinking about it. Someone who's buying a car to use in actual motorsport will likely buy the cheapest version and rip out all of the interior anyway. While someone who doesn't want to use it for motorsport will be looking for creature comforts.

This is one of the lightest cars in its class so although it may only have 100 horsepower and 98 ft lbs of torque, it isn't the slowest car. It looks like it would be fun to drive and rather toss able. However, if I had the money I would take a 3 and I would like to see some padding for the door armrests. I like it in the green though. My choice for vehicles in this class would be the Honda Fit or this.

good review christian. i think if i would buy a car in this class i would choose the scion iq because of reliability

Small problem, this is not "Sport" model! Sport comes with cruise control, alloys, fog lights, projector type headlights, and most importantly sport badge on the back lid. 😂🤣

after watching this, i don't think i'd ever get a mazda 2, the fiesta is definitely better. if you've ever watched top gear's ford fiesta review, it's probably the best advertisement for the car ever made.
@IKhanNot11 жыл бұрын
Yeah Ford has been having quite a few problems as of lately. The designs, features and performance is great but I'm not totally sold on them. Did your Taurus have the 155HP Vulcan? Those motors will go forever but the transmissions were a weak spot.

That "advanced" 4-speed auto was from the Protege. It quit production in 2003-2004 and was brought back for the Mazda2. :/

I like driving a smaller car, but the Mazda 2 is just too small and impractical. The Accent or Fit would be my 2 top picks if I was buying a sub-compact hatch.

Didn't mention the big Hertz sticker on the front window. How would you like to have arrive at the Orlando airport with a wife, a screaming kid, and lot of bags and be given the key to this? Hertz only buys this to have the lowest class car on the lot to force people who are stingy and reserve the cheapest car hoping for an upgrade to be forced to pay for the car class upgrade. That is probably why it took 2 years to get to 30thousand miles, verses 1 to 1.5 years for other cars.
