That little 4 cilinder is naughty... It's quite quick despite the numbers. Feels much faster than 100hp Handling to me is like a FWD Miata, feels amazing

Having driven Miatas you're not wrong. There's a similar action to the gear change as well (though Mazda2 more plasticy). Its handing is actually not unlike something like the EG Civic in FWD nippy feel. Speedwise these are only slightly slower than the 1.6 NA Miata too.

I’m from Australia, My partner bought a 2014 5 door auto hatch new, not a single problem, its been great. It’s a bit buzzy at highway speed but for driving around the city and the hills it’s very fun to drive. The stereo is good with iPhone connectivity, and good speakers. The only annoying thing is that the seats are not suited to really long driving but you can adjust the seat height which helps.lacks back and thigh support. it’s got over 120.000kms we have had 2 of them, a 2012 new that had done over 60.000kms that was total loss in 2014 after a early 90s Mazda 626 failed to give way at an intersection and and the 626 took full impact to the side. Only drivers airbag was deployed. The 626 drove away from the crash but my partners 2 was towed away.

We have a 2010 Mazda 2 as both a city and our family car. It's a real vfm, though we have the 1.3l with 86hp so it feels a little underpowered in some cases, but at least it's the 5-speed manual... Not that spacious or comfortable over bumps but it can do 700km with full fuel tank, which is I think extraordinary, given the fact that it's already 10 years old! I've been able to max it out at 180kph with 5 persons onboard and a fully loaded trunk and it still felt steady and reassuring on the road. It steers and handles exceptionally well and its behavior is very predictable. Its reliability is also off the charts, provided that you do the service and maintenance on time. I think that there is a huge difference in the overall behavior of the car between the Automatic and the manual gearbox and I would suggest you to also test the car with a manual gearbox.

6/21/2021: 2013: MAZDA2 hatchback - the SAME car here. I bought it in 2015 (30,000 Miles ) For me, this car is PERFECT. I luv the fact that it is BASIC and not all those gadgets. All I want in a car is transportation from POINT A to POINT B. I have a Mazda 2 with only 42,000 miles at present. My job, church, grocery store in only 10- 15 mind away from my house. I am looking to Upgrade, maybe, to a 2021. EXCELLENT car. I’m satisfied w/it. Aloha from Hawaii.

You are missing all the Mazda fun without a stick, which is top notch even on the 2. I bought a manual mazda2 at launch in 2011 as a weekend car in a major city. I take great care of it, it's still under 100k km, and it still looks brand new. I absolutely love it, and it IS a perfect car for wavy "canyon" roads (Quebec Laurentians)... especially those in which you can't really go passed 90km/h. With the manual, very light 16 inch rims and sports tires, it's SUPER fun. 2nd and 3rd gear above 3k rpm is where you get the most out of it. Get the manual, shed as much weight as you can, keep it at half-tank, and you will have endless legal fun with this car.

Great review. I own a 2013 Mazda 2. It's a fun car to drive and is very reliable. You are correct once you get the car past 50 mph, there is alot of wind noise. But the car is fine on the highway. The 5speed does like 3000rpm at 100kph. I feel like it's geared too short to be more relaxed than the auto. Americans would always have issues with these when they're cruising at like 70-80mph at 4000rpm

Since then I've had an '02 Protege (which I still own and still runs!!!), and I lucked out and bought a 2014 2 just before Covid hit. Her name is 'EB', which stands for Mazda2 Electric Boogaloo. I convinced my bf at the time to get an '04 3, which he later upgraded to a 2010 3. He's been out of my life for 10 years, but I bet those cars are still running! Long live Mazda. Zoom Zoom!

I just traded in my 2011 Mazda 2 on November 7th 22 for a Nissan Frontier, The Mazda was a good car with no issues. It was not powerful but had good mileage which is why I bought it. One accident where I barely touched the right wheel of a late model BMD and it took out my whole front end. This is not the car to give to someone you love. Traded it in for 3000 thousand dollars with 94 thousand miles on it. I drove all over Northern Minnesota, North Dakota and Canada with it and slept in it too as the seat reclines all the way back with my pal Monty the wonder Yorky/ Weener dog riding shotgun. 5-speed manual and never got stuck in northern Minnesota snow and it start at 37 below zero for the 7 years I lived there.

Well my wife has auto 2013/250,000Km it's like a Mini SUV ,the big cost was replaced all 4 shocks lots of pot holes in Toronto ! But engine and transmission are very good ,the power steering in parking lot speed makes a noise that the dealership can't fix an Mazda never recalls unless body count gets high. They don't sell the 2 in Canada anymore so will not be replacing it. Radio sound goes out sometimes , KZbin will show how to hit it just right ,but better to just replace it.

We live in South Carolina where everything 90% of the infrastructure is highway and I know what you’re saying to keep the car at 2000 RPM you better be doing 60 or less 70 miles an hour you doing 3000 RPM now I can do it when I drive the car. But my wife doesn’t understand the whole gear ratio rpm thing and I’m trying to let her know the importance of not pushing this little car over 60/65 miles an hour. @@ClaudiayAdeel bad wheels and tyres make a big difference. If you're on 14 inch wheels and economy tyres that might explain it. When I first got mine it had the oem 16s and the tyres fitted were poor. Car understeered and oversteered when pushed and the dsg light was always on. Replaced worn out Chinese tyres with sport rubber and it made a massive difference to the character of the car. You get a little bit of body lean but that's a Mazda tuning characteristic. It's well controlled and grips well. Aftermarket parts exist - particularly from Japan - if you need to modify it. You've probably replaced yours by now anyway though.

I've got a Mazda 2. It's an alright city car, but does poorly with bad pavement due to fragile suspension and a stiff ride. The automatic transmission is also pretty unremarkable and not known for excellent reliability. Personally I'd consider a used Golf 2.5, Chevy Sonic or second generation Hyundai Accent hatch over a Mazda 2. Obviously the Honda Fit is king, but they command a hefty price used.

@@passager01 Yeah the problem is, its completely stupid. U can't drive more than 70mph over there before u get caught😂😂 That's what I don't get. V8 are great but why do u want a v8 , you cant even drive fast.
