You have to realize the the huge crowds a Sprint Cup race can draw. Don't get me wrong, there are many small venues that produce awesome racing, but upgrading Iowa speedway to host a Sprint cup race is likely to cost in the 100's millions; extra seating, parking, utility connections, public roads, maintenance of upgrades, etc. NASCAR runs on some of the highest capacity sports facilities in the world, which before the recession, were often sold out with 120000+ people.

I suppose I didn't really make myself too clear; reading back, I kind of made it sound like upgrading the track was a stupid idea and shouldn't be done. That's not the case though. I was just trying to point out that it's not likely to happen very soon. As you said, NASCAR is generally more willing work with a high-dollar company (aka Speedway Motorsports Inc.) than a track that is owned by a small private party or organization. With support from fans and drivers though, anything is possible.

@hell5torm The Nationwide series is the 2nd tier - think GP2, but full time Sprint Cup (top tier) drivers are allowed to compete sometimes too. The cars are a bit heavier and less powerful than the full Sprint Cup NASCARs

@hell5torm yep this is the junior series. Its called the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
