I couldn't help but get a little choked up seeing all those vets get rings. The five Mavs on the floor in the final minutes were Dirk, Kidd, Chandler, Terry, and Marion. Plus Peja on the bench. Six guys who came so close so often finally reaching the basketball promised land. It doesn't get any better than that.

Dirk was one of the few superstars that stayed with his former team, went several years without a ring, remained patient and finally won one against a heavily favored opponent in this Miami Heat team, the same franchise that denied him in 2006. That's what made this series win such a great story. Dirk stayed loyal to his team and it paid off.

So many squads can't say that though despite being loyal. , DeRozan got done dirty and you wanna talk about loyalty.

Tavon ThaTruth . Loyalty doesn’t pay off anymore in the NBA. Teams aren’t loyal, so players aren’t loyal. Dirk’s story may make us feel good, and yes his loyalty is admirable, but that loyalty is no longer a viable option.

One of the happiest nights of my life. It's really disappointing that from the time the buzzer sounded they immediately talked about it being a loss for the Heat and all their incompetence in the series rather than talking about all the Mavs, Dirk, and what every other veteran on the roster had been through up until that point in their careers. How they shocked everyone throughout that whole playoff run starting with SWEEPING the Lakers, who were still an elite squad at that point. Whatever, it was still one of the happiest memories of my short life. Go Mavs

I didn't even realize that they actually swept by the Mavs. How embarrassing that was. Confidence was backed up when Howard and Nash joined the team but all was left was bitter disappointment. The greatest playoff run in nba history. Swept the back to back defending champion Lakers, beat the OKC big 3 and destroyed the Heavily favorite Eastern big 3 in Miami Heat. A well deserved and legit championship for Dirk and for the rest of the team. Better than all of KD's participation trophies I'd say.. Not even close.
@jarlborg21024 жыл бұрын
@Zacary Grasl Steph, Klay, Draymond & the rest of the GSW were already a Champ caliber team before KD joined the ride. Put Carmelo Anthony, or JR Smith, or Jeremy Lin instead of KD in that 73-9 team and they would still make it to the finals.
@jarlborg21024 жыл бұрын
@Zacary Grasl well, they won 1 title without KD, and lost 1 in a very close fight. series went game 7. And they'll probably win another the next couple of years even without KD. But one thing is certain, KD wouldn't have single ring if he didn't ride with the 73-9 team.

I was 11 years old during this series. It was the first and so far only Dallas championship that has happened in my lifetime, so you can bet that our family was watching this win. But even at the time I didn't realize how improbable our title run was; We were nearing the end of Dirk's prime and our window, yet we swept the defending championship Lakers, showed the Thunder how it's done, and then demolished the superteam Heat in their own home to seal the deal. What a revenge for 2006. I don't care how long it takes for us to be good again; this singular moment will be the greatest in our franchise's history. Nothing will top this. Ever.

What a team this was. Loved Kidd, he was a bit old at this point but he was very good, then you had Jason Terry, AWESOME shooter, great form, and the great Dirk, along with Chandler and his defense. Very good team.

I remember being a sophomore in college and watching this game at my friends house in the dog days of summer 2011. I'll never forget watching one of the games where the mavs were down by like 15 and I remember getting pissed and changing the channel. When I watched the ESPN highlights later that night I was blown away that they managed to come back and win that game! I'm glad Dirk managed to avenge the 2006 finals and win this one

I would say this game in NBA finals history is one of the top 5 Upsets in NBA finals history. Not number one though I would give his number 2 all time. Nothing will top the 2004 NBA Finals upset where the Pistons knocked off the Lakers 4-1. The top 5 NBA finals upsets 5. 1985 NBA Finals Lakers beat the Celtics 4-2 4. 1995 NBA FInals Rockets sweep the Magic 3. 1975 NBA Finals Warriors sweep the Bullets 4-0 2. 2011 NBA finals Mavericks shock the Heat 4-2 1. 2004 NBA Finals Pistons surprise the Lakers 4-1 Anyone else think of any great NBA finals upsets let me know

2006 Finals Heat beat Dallas 4-2
@dantesuguitanjr26299 жыл бұрын
I dont know about the 2006 being an upset because then again the Heat had Shaq and Wade and more talent than the Mavs had. in 2011 the Heat had Bosh LeBron Wade and Haslem and Cole and Chalmers and the Mavs only had Dirk Kidd and Terry and Marion. The MAvericks were an aging group while the Heat was a younger talent of all stars you have to remember.
@allthatjeff9 жыл бұрын
Dante Scott Suguitan The Heat weren't favored at all to win. Every expert had Dallas winning and after Game 2 Dallas was planning their parade route. The Heat also didn't gave homecourt and Dallas had 60+ Wins and beat the defending champs. I think people value talent more than they do solid role players. Dallas was deeper than Miami at the Point, back up SG, SF, PF. They were all around deeper than Miami. Cole wasn't on Miami in 2011. I hate Lebron for his pathetic choke in this Finals.

if heat won this series D-WADE is the clear mvp. He's the best heat player in this finals. Lebron choked so hard it's painful to watch. I can easily understand why people criticized him so bad after this series. He's nothing like kobe and jordan. Those 2 love this kind of moments. They love the pressure. Lebron kinda like he's playing scared.
@HarpoSpoke5 жыл бұрын
And yet at the end of this video you see that Wade scored 17 points on 38% shooting. Lebron scored 21 points on 60% shooting. Even Bosh had 19 on 78% shooting. That was the biggest game of the season and Wade disappeared. When you watch the games you see that Wade disappeared at the end of every loss. He padded his stats in the first 3 quarters then came up small in the last 5 minutes of the games. That's the real Wade...not the overrated version who's rep was made from the refs handing him a ring in 2006. Without the refs helping him in 2011, this is what you get. ----------------------- Lebron has probably the best performances in elimination games in history. No one has ever come up bigger in elimination games. He's also hit more game winning shots in the playoffs than MJ or Kobe. So much for "scared of the pressure".
