2011 R1200 GS Crosspro engine bars

Here is a short film that might help you fit a set of Cross-pro engine bars or it may help you decide if these are the make and model you want to fit to your bike. The exact reference on the instruction book is as follows, Trail Crash Bar Aluminium BMW GS 1200 - 2008/12 Ref: 2CP1250010. The whole job took a couple of hours to do but that was at a leisurely pace with lots of coffee and joking around

Did you try a drop test, to see how strength the crash bars? Do you think they will really protect the motorcycle when it drops?

Hi Arno, no we did not try a drop test, I don't think the bars would completely protect the bike, I think you might get some damage to the bits that stick out, I expect that is the same for all makes of protection bars, also the damage must relate to the speed and how hard the bike hits the groind. hi matey i cant seem to see what your putting the top bolt in to on the video , seems to be a small clasp on either side but thats it is that what you put this one in to?

It is hard to see, lack of planning, well no planning at all! Is it the bolt at 6:30 and 8:15 in the film, if so the bolt screws into a dedicated factory drilling and tapping in the engine block, I recon the only function of this fixing point is to mount the engine bars, hope this is of help, thanks for commenting, John from sunny Devon UK.

yes that is the part i mean! theirs 2 small screws that line up so i would assume its those because their the only 2 screw holes that are on both sides

Yes small screws 10mm, are you fitting the bars to a 2011 1200 GS

no to a 2008 model, but the bars are for a 2008-2012

The advantage we had was that we were swapping one set for another, this made it ease, hop you get on ok.

That's great thanks a lot. I have seen the ones that go in front of the forks on the earlier models. They don't look as good as the ones you fitted, I'll keep a look out on ebay. The heed ones look good👍

Thanks for that. I have a 2005 gs but I'm sure installation is the same. Where are the bars from? Motorworks in Yorkshire sell some like that👍

michele hill Hi Michele thanks for commenting I've sent my pal Steve a message asking where he got them from , will let you known, I do get a lot of my stuff from Motorwork there good but I don't think the bars are from them, JP

michele hill Hi again Michele my pall said he got them from ebay. I've had a look , you probably need to contact the seller as the photos show the bars in front of the forks but the ones we fitted went behind, see video, It looks like 04 to 07 is diferent to the 12 bars we fittedl, hope that is of help, JP
