This knowledge will help you if your installing the mopar back up camera kit or having to make any repairs to the tailgate latch/handle assemblies. Make sure to take your time and not scratch the painted tailgate while trying to remove the handle once unbolted.

Awesome video. Do you know anything about the lock? My 2012 Ram 3500 lock on the handle doesn’t work. I tried locking the tailgate and no luck. Please let me know how I can fix it. Thanks.

If the key will not turn then the key cylinder assembly will need to be replaced. I assume that is what your speaking of. It it turns but doesnt lock then I recommend removing that rear access panel to see whats going on. Thanks for the question and for watching.

​@@dandrson7903It's been a while, I think that is what I did and it works now. If I remember I sprayed the heck out of the gears with brake parts cleaner and wd40 I think that fixed it.

Morning. Just purchased a 2011 Ram Outdoorsman. Tailgate LOCKS every time I close it. Dealership wants $600 to fix the problem, seems a bit steep to me. I would like to order the pars myself and do the repair. Also, dealer said that there was an aftermarket backup camera installed. I do not have the nav system in my truck. Would I view the camera on my rear view mirror? Is the camera wireless? There are no wires going to my tailgate. Last thing; where is the best place to get the replacement parts I need? +Ron Tebow Hello Ron.....thanks for the comment. I cant say that I remember removing a tailgate with a helper spring as of yet. I have looked over the service info and haven't found any info about the torsion helper spring. I most likely haven't come across one yet or is it an aftermarket add on? I haven't seen everything so it could be new to me

hey, i have a question for you. i have a 20111500 sport that didn't come with the back up camera and was entertaining the idea of installing said kit that you mentioned myself. i work on on tractor trailers and very familiar with electrical systems (thank you freightliner cascadias). what is all involved with installing this kit (what wires go where, etc) and whats the p/n? thanks.

Thanks for the comment. Installing it isn't that hard and the instruction cd is very detailed. There is one problem you will run into however. The dealer needs to access Chrysler and update the vehicles new build configuration and then download it to the vehicle. This allows the vehicle to know what features it has and to make sure everything operates accordingly. This will be something you can not perform yourself, only the dealer has access. As far as part #.....I need the vehicle VIN to have my parts department look it up. Make sure to subscribe if you haven't already

My 2011 tailgate is stuck in the locked position, key will not turn. Tailgate will not drop. Do I need a new lock cylinder? Please help

You will have to get the rear access cover off and then see if anything obvious. If the lock cylinder wont turn then you might unless something is causing to not move. Just take you time and see what you can find with the cover off. You should be able to move the linkage and get the latches to release in the mean time while apart.
