Last game I would watch with my Dad on a 2 week visit back home before he passed away in summer of 2012. Following week went to Lambeau for a surprisingly memorable and entertaining game between the Packers and Lions in which Matt Flynn would throw for 6 TDs and extend the Lions losing streak at Lambeau.

Now just imagine if the Packers hadn't lost to KC the week before. Rodgers probably plays in week 17 against the Lions. And just assuming he has a game similar to or even better than Flynn did that week, Rodgers has at least 51 touchdowns, over 5000 yards, and only 6 or 7 interceptions depending on how similar he plays to Flynn. That probably equates to an even better passer rating and an even large guarantee of the MVP season.

@@noahjones1166 Regardless of how the game with KC went, the way to beat a finesse team like the Packers in 2011 was to play a physical brand of football, and the Giants had the personnel to do so, even more than KC. There's a reason the Giants were the closest team to beating the Packers in the regular season before KC ended up doing it week 15.

@@slasher5871The Packers really missed Pickett in the middle for the KC game. Also there was a couple plays that really turned the game. KC fumbled through the end zone and the refs missed it. Finley fumbled a TD pass to a LB. They didn’t lose because they got outplayed. KC kept it close and let luck determine the game. It was a winning strategy.

The Packers and the Patriots had the two worst defenses in 2011, both allowing over 400 yards per game but went 15-1 and 13-3, respectively. Showing what you can overcome with a HOF QB and some weapons on the offense.

I don’t agree with that analysis. Both teams average scoring over 30 points a game. They played a lot of prevent. For the Packers, the D average giving up about 3 net points (points surrendered minus points scored directly) per quarter for quarters 1-3. In the 4th quarters after pulling to an average 18 point lead, they gave up as many points in the 4th quarter as they gave up in the other 3 combined. If the games were close in the 4th quarters, they probably play D more like they did in the first 3. Which would have made them one of the best in the league. Total passing yards is also one of the worst stats for correlation to winning or losing. When teams are way behind, they stop running and just bomb it down the field. Teams with over 400 passing yards in a game lose more than they win. Because prevent works, as long as you have a big enough lead. Don’t go prevent when you are up by one score. Giving up a TD in exchange for 7 minutes of clock when you are up by 18 is a fair trade in the 4th quarter. You don’t get extra credit for holding out of then end zone, so the points don’t matter.

This really was prime Aaron Rodgers before the Giants just ruined everything. We were heavy favorites to win it all again. 15-1. Home field advantage. 1st round bye. MVP with Rodgers best season ever. And it was too good to be true. Playing the Giants early in the season was bad news when I saw we had to play them again in the playoffs. ANY OTHER TEAM we easily had it. I was at this game. It was amazing and the feeling of invincibility was something nobody can take away from me during that entire year. We almost went an entire YEAR of just winning.

Nick Collins getting a career-ending injury in Week 2 ended up being a much bigger hole than people think. He was an absolute beast back there. The way the offense played also changed how that defense played too IMO. The offense would build up these big leads with their air attack and I think because of that the defense zoned in on turnovers. It's sort of a paradox that the team with most takeaways in the league also was the worst ranked defense.
@ihcterra46253 ай бұрын
@@7hew0lv3r1neMissing Pickett also hurt for the KC game and this Bears game. He shut down the middle on running plays and it freed up other players. It just proves how stupid it is to rank a team by passing yards. Specially when they are playing prevent in the 4th quarters.

@@jadenparsons1842 If you rank them by yards. But yards are not points. Nobody ever in the history of the NFL has been handed a win when they got outscored, but put up more yards. During quarters 1-3, the D was great. After they had an average lead of 18 points, they went prevent and still won by more than a TD. Almost half the yards they gave up were in the 4th quarter while playing prevent. So ranking them by yards is really ranking them by garbage time, when teams were no threat. They also forced 50 turnovers including the 12 4th down stops. That was because teams were so far behind, they were forced to take risks and bomb it down the field. High risk throws produce lots of yards and lots of turnovers. Teams that lead the game in passing yards lose more often than win because they are playing in desperation mode. Interestingly enough, the top 3 offenses had defenses ranked 32, 31 and 24th in yards allowed. The Packers, Patriots and Saints. The KC game was not lost by the D. It was lost by the refs missing a KC fumble through the endzone and Finley dropping a TD into the hands of a linebacker. This game is a perfect example of how they boat raced other teams. They would build a lead, teams would take risks and turn the ball over, the O would capitalize and its a 25 point lead going into the 4th quarter. Then they pull Rodgers and play prevent.
@ihcterra46253 ай бұрын
If they had not been boat racing everyone they played, they would have played D in the 4th quarters more like they play in quarters 1-3. But when you are up by 18 in the 4th quarter, you play a lot of prevent. Giving up a TD and FG when you are up by 18 doesn’t make any difference except for people who misunderstand stats. Counting 12 failed 4th down attempts by opponents, they forced 50 turnovers. Any drive that ends in a turnover is useless. All the yards they put up before the turnovers are absolutely meaningless. The reason they had so many turnovers is because they were up by 18 in the 4th most games. That is what prevent does and that is why having over 400 passing yards in a game loses more than it wins. You get lots of yards playing against prevent, but it doesn’t mean you are doing all that well.
