2012/13 Championship Final Day Relegation Battle

If you thought my last relegation battle upload was insane with 3 teams 2 relegation spots and only 1 survivor. This trip into the Championship will blow it out of the water. Going into the final day of the 2012/13 Championship season which was insane as it is due to the drama at the top of the table as Hull and Watford duked it to see who would join champions Cardiff in automatic promotion to the Premier League there were 2 relegation spots to League 1 to avoid as Bristol City were already doomed. But unlike 2007/08 where there were 3 teams in the mix here there were 7 the key matches here were Huddersfield v Barnsley who started the day in drop zone, Crystal Palace v Peterborough as The Posh began the final day only out of the bottom 3 on goal difference against a Palace side who themselves were on a dismal run of their own 9 games without a win for Ian Holloway's side and they needed a result secure one of the 2 remaining a play off spots that were available on the last day. The last featured match involved Wolves who were in the weakest position of the 7 they travelled to a Brighton side who wanted gain momentum having already sealed their play off spot. Referee was awful in that 3rd goal for Palace, it was a brilliant tackle by Gayle, yet the referee gave a foul on the Palace player.

Even though it benefitted Palace manager Ian Holloway was unusually sombre as seen in the post-match interview after the game mainly because he knew what Darren Ferguson was going through because he got relegated on the last day of the season when he was Leicester manager in 2007/2008. He felt that the foul by Dwight Gayle who ironically moved to Palace following their playoff triumph and promotion to the Premier League which led to Jedinak's winning goal wasn't a foul. In the Palace Amazon Prime documentary Ollie said "I feel gutted for them (Peterborough) pleased for us (Palace)" and Steve Parish admitted that it was a bittersweet feeling on the day and that they didn't realise that Palace had sent Peterborough down due to being so busy celebrating a much-needed win that they as it turned out didn't need to secure the playoff spot as they hadn't won for 2 months before this match.
