2012-2015 Honda Civic Hybrid Spark Plug Replacement DIY

This video covers the replacement of the eight spark plugs in the 2012-2015 Honda Civic Hybrid, demonstrated on a 2014 Civic Hybrid in White Orchid Pearl. The Civic Hybrid uses a twin spark system, so there are eight plugs for four cylinders.
This procedure may be applicable to the gas-only models, just without the spark plugs in the back.

First I want to say thank you!! This video helped massively to get it all out, but I think I have a bigger problem. There’s oil leak in them, where do I find the spark plug tube seal in this car? It appears I will need to replace those gaskets as well before putting in the new spark plugs and coil. Thanks in advance. I have 2014 Honda civic hybrid

My mechanic telling me that this generation hybrid is using cvtf transmission fluid and there is no need to or don't have transmission fluid filter for this model. Is that tru?

The hybrid does require CVTF (not HCF-2) and the filter is non-serviceable.

Do I have to disconnect the battery before replacing spark plugs? Thank you.

It wouldn't hurt, but you don't have to. The ignition system is only on when the car is on.

Do you use the same plugs and coils for the bottom that you do for the top? The mechanic at the dealership made it sound like the top coils and bottom coils were different.

The spark plugs are all the same (top and bottom, same part). The coils are different between top (rear) and bottom (front): Top is 30521-RBJ-S01 and bottom coils are 30520-RBJ-S01.

Hello. Do you have to torque the spark plugs? What happens if you do not?

I would certainly recommend it. If too loose, air could leak out and cause compression issues. If too tight, you could strip the block.

Hi can you confirm what size socket is needed for the spark plugs? Is a 5/8 16mm the right one?

Yup, 5/8" or 16mm is correct. Make sure it is meant for spark plugs!

It have a pcv valve ? Whre is it ?

To my knowledge, the PCV valve in the hybrid is behind the intake manifold. Not sure where it is in the standard model but I believe it is much easier.

All hybrids have eight spark plugs. All other 9th gen Civics have four.
