2012-2015 VW Passat 1.8T Serpentine Belt Change

Quick one this week - how to swap out the serpentine belt on a B7 NMS Volkswagen Passat with the EA888 1.8T engine. Pretty quick and simple job, but you do need to be prepared with a 16mm socket (not included in most US-sold metric sets) to get it done.

Apparently some of you guys need step-by-step info in order to change out a belt. I watch this video today because my car broke down in front of the autozone. I called the shop and they could not fix my car because they didn't have the time. I walked in and bought the belt for 20 bucks; listen to what he had to say and I fixed my car. Thank you so much for this video because it was really helpful. I could have spent will over $300 getting my car fixed over something that is really simple

Do you know if the alternator removal on this engine is easy? I can't find any guide for this particular engine, saw one video where the guy took off the complete front of the car to take it out!

I commented on your first video of this car. I had bought one at the same time you bought yours. I just wanted to say I traded mine for the new golf sportwagen which i really like a lot. BUT I miss all that interior space and back seat legroom

The back seat legroom is what makes these so killer - this thing rivals my S-Class in terms of back seat space, which is especially great for road trips. The Golf is definitely more practical in terms of utility though, and probably is more economical in fuel consumption to boot. Thanks for sticking around and watching the videos!

It was just replaced as preventative maintenance - here in Arizona, our rubber components wear quickly due to heat and dirt/debris, and the last time you want a belt failing is on a 120+ degree day, so we tend to change them and other critical components more often that necessary.
