I’m definitely coming back to this video when it comes time to change my oil again. I really don’t like going to shops and being pressured to buy repairs that aren’t necessary (lookin’ at you Meineke)
@danielpatterson8363 жыл бұрын
Quick observation, for those that don't know 5W20: The W stands for "winter," not "weight." Not that that's a big deal. Also, I would not go much more than 3000 miles on an oil change in this "direct injection" motor. Direct injection motors are notorious for fuel oil dilution. If you pull your dip stick out, smell the oil and you smell gas, you can bet your bippy that fuel is getting past the piston rings and diluting your oil. JS. I pulled up this video cause I'm gonna change my daughter in-law's 2016 Rio that I found run for 8000 miles on lord knows what kind of oil they put in it. I pulled the dip stick and it just reeks of gasoline! NO DOUBT. I've been changing oil in my cars for 50+ years. I have done quite a bit of research. With that said, I recommend Walmart "Supertech" full synthetic oil. That oil is refined to as high a standard as any other oil on the market. You can look it up for yourself and see. At ruffly 16.00 bucks for a 5 quart jug, you won't find anything else near that price for full synthetic. I also HIGHLY recommend Wix oil filters. You will not find any other brand of oil filter as good as the Wix filters. Search KZbin videos of people cutting open oil filters to see what is inside. You would be amazed at how much JUNK is out there on the market today for oil filters. THE LAST FILTER I WOULD EVER PUT ON MY ENGINE WOULD BE FRAM! Any of them! They are junk. Even the higher priced ones over the orange can are the same damn thing. They just have a different color box. JUNK!!! For this motor it's the Wix 51334XP for full synthetic oil. I also use a Pennzoil Oil Filter socket #19909 that will make quick work of removing and installing that oil filter. It's the same one that fits my B18 Integra oil filter, so I didn't need to buy another. This Kia oil filter is way easier to get at than my Acura. This oil filter hangs straight up and down so you can carefully fill the new filter with oil before you install it on the car and get oil pressure quicker. You don't need to fill it all the way up so it spills all over, but almost full. This is my 2 cents. Have fun out there!!!

I'm not sure if I'm more impressed with the length of this comment, or the fact that you have to be 60+ years old (judging by the fact that you have been changing oil for 50 years) and you have an Integra. Rad 🤙

Yeah an extra 2/10ths of oil isn't going to hurt anything. I wouldn't go and add an extra half quart or anything like that, but the meager 2/10ths just to finish off the bottle isn't going to hurt, provided that you changed the filter and got all the old oil out.

Wear gloves. Used engine oil is carcinogenic. 5W-30 is probably a better weight of oil to use to minimize engine wear, or even 10W-30 if you live where it never goes below freezing. Both of these are allowed according to the Kia Rio owner's manual.

@joshvaldez84552 жыл бұрын
@@BuckeyeBallistics is it still running strong for you? Any problems?
@BuckeyeBallistics2 жыл бұрын
No problems, but 55k is low miles lol. I've seen plenty for sale with over 100k. Again, you should google it, but the only one potential issue I know of is the valves becomming dirty and causing performance loss/issues due to the nature of the direct injection engine- but there are a bunch of cars on the road with those types of engines now, like the Subaru WRX for example (2015 or newer). You can clean them up by having a walnut blast performed through the intake manifold, but it's costly at around $500-$600 to have performed. But like I said, this is just by nature of the direct injection and there are a ton of other cars out there with this same handicap. It's also not always necessary to perform, depends on the car. But basically the car will get sluggish over time and could even start running rough with higher miles. Google it and read up on it...

@BuckeyeBallistics5 жыл бұрын
You can put full synthetic in any car. Conventional is fine for the Rio, but I always run full synthetic in all my cars for better protection and better fuel mileage and power. You also don't have to change full synthetic every 3000 miles, 5000 is fine. I run full synthetic in all my cars and typically change every 5000 miles. If you do it yourself it only costs $5-10 more for full synthetic.

Oh wow. Years ago full synthetic was twice as much here in the US, but in the last 5-6 years the price went down and it's only a little more now. Here a 5 quart jug like in the video is $20 to $25 for conventional, $30 to $35 for synthetic.

You should also pour oil into the oil filter before you screw it in being that oil filter is vertical fill it up and then screw it in this way the engine will have oil when you first start it... Update( I edited this being I used the wrong wording by saying starve the engine of oil. That's not what I meant. My bad)

I've done hundreds and never done such things. Never once has an engine been starved of oil for this reason. Nothing in any manual says to do this. Where did you get that cockadoodle brained idea? That's a waste of time and could be messy. The books typically specify with filter change. They add that amount into your total you put in from the top.
