Just finished changing my battery thanks to this fantastic video. Make sure you have a 10 mm deep socket for the cover removal. And make sure the key fob is nearby when you reconnect the terminals or your car alarm will go off.

Thank you so much for this!! I've replaced a lot of batteries but none of them required this much work. Had I not watched your video I would have been overwhelmed! The only problem I had is that I removed the battery and took it to the auto parts store to make sure I got the correct replacement. I closed the hatch and when I came back I could not open the hatch and had to replace the battery from the back seat!

Hello Nicholas. Thank you so much for posting this video. I was apprehensive to change my battery since these cars are not or the same as the rest. With your help, I was able to change my battery and everything is back to normal. I also was able to find a 20% discount coupon for Advance Auto Parts which was great since this battery is $199.00 Thanks again!!!

thanks! this was enormously helpful. for anyone else with a dead battery trying to open the hatchback - there's a small square plastic cover on the inside near the locking mechanism. pop that off with a screwdriver and insert a wide screwdriver (or in my case, a kitchen butterknife) into the small, square shaped metal recess just inside the opening and turn. should pop right open.

Thanx so much for the instruction. I gotta say everything that happens to you (drop the nut, put the cover on and it’s a quarter inch over, pop off the tab when trying to open the positive) are just the same things that happen to me Whalen I try these things. Appreciate you sharing!

thanks for the video. A few things that should not be done one you never ever hammer on a battery.If the battery clamp was not going on to the battery simply use a flat screw driver to gently open it.The attention to keeping the ground from touching anything was not needed it. the only thing the negative battery cable can not touch is the positive. I would recommend a little more care with the positive it should not touch anything.

I think bending a fuseable link is not a good thing. It could cause it not to work properly. From the video it looks like you can loosen the nut on the other (right) side of the primary fuseable link, align the link as necessary, and then retighten nut. The video was very helpful. Thanks!

Changing my 8 year old AGM battery today. Haven't had any noticeable issues, but seems like a good time to replace it before I get stuck somewhere during my DoorDashing where I constantly turn the car on and off.

About to change mine. DID YOU REMEMBER TO PLUG IN THE VENT HOSE ON THE NEW BATTERY? I may have missed that or you may have.
@n9wox3 жыл бұрын
The negative battery cable is already grounded to the body of the car. No need to electrically isolate it from touching the body.

Thanks for the video... the same thing just happened to me. Volt wouldn't start, giving all kinds of weird messages including "wait to shift". I bought the replacement Autocraft H5. My positive fuse assembly was doing the same thing, not quite going all of the way in. There is a pin on the underside of the fuse assembly that lines up with one of the two holes on the battery. Instead of sliding the whole fuse box back on, put the fuse assembly back on from above, lining up that pin to the hole. then it just snaps on.

Hi, I’ve noticed that you did not disconnect the orange battery cap under the storage box between the front seats, which is likely the disconnect for the main 360 V battery, is that not necessary to complete replacement of the 12V battery? Thx

Hi Nicholas, thanks for the video! Unfortunately, I think I've had an unfortunate side effect from swapping the battery. Every time I turn on the car the clock resets to midnight and the GPS is completely wrong. I wouldn't mind that much, but when I took it in to smog it returns a "not ready" when performing the emission self checks. I feel like this is related to the clock resetting and swapping out the battery. I've checked many of the fuses and they all seem okay. Do you or anyone else here have advice or experience here? Thanks!

My battery died this week and *beforehand* I already experienced the clock and GPS issue. Let me know if you ever got resolution on that.
@lindawitt4661 Жыл бұрын
We had the "Not Ready" emmisions issue after replacing the 12 volt. Research shows that you need to drive it . . . lord I'm trying to recall, I think at least 50 miles for the stsem to record enough data before taking it in.

My volt just stopped working it said engine not available and will not drive! Do you think I need to replace the battery??
@LeAdri1du404 жыл бұрын
The cover clips from the top, there is some pins+sliding guides you can clearly see on the battery, no use in trying to push from the side no way it can go in

@nicholasbrown73945 жыл бұрын
Lynn Tatro No I don’t believe we did. This was just an easy switch-out
@briand97544 жыл бұрын
Battery vent tube connects towards the negative side of the battery. There will be a hole for placing the existing vent tube. Very important to vent gases outside of the car.

how do you know if the battery was bad? in these cars it hard to tell...
@nicholasbrown73945 жыл бұрын
When the battery is bad, the battery is either using a lot of power all at once or is not filling up completely.

If the small 12v battery is bad, like in this video, then the car will not start, even if the big battery has charge. Press start button, nothing happens, screen is black. Remote may not unlock the doors. Could not be more obvious. The other comments are for the big battery, not discussed in this video.
