This helped incredibly. The way you walked though this made it easy to understand what I was measuring and what the target was. Excellent video thanks.

Hi, I’m in dire need of a little bit of help with my 2014 dodge journey RT I have a parasite draw someplace I took it to a mechanic. He said it was a relay that he switched out that supposedly keeps the computer system on until the 10 minutes or so before the computer goes asleep he told me that it was drawing about one amp is the only thing he could find, and when he replaced the relay it drop-down to a .1 amp and the car started the next morning really well the following day started up for me. Couple hours later would not start because of dead battery. Could this be the tipm needs to be replaced or could be something else I’m not seeing.
@PhillipBailey Жыл бұрын
That's hard to say. It could be a multitude of possibilities. Need to basically start over again. .1amp is 100mA which is double the acceptable allowance.

@@PhillipBailey I called the mechanic and he told me it’s very possible it could be the alternator doing a back draw when the engine shuts off is that a possibility?
@PhillipBailey Жыл бұрын
@jamesyounce4141 yes it could be a bad diode or voltage regulator in the alternator. Just curious but does your vehicle have a rear wiper and if so does it work? I've seen a rear wiper motor which is siezed trying to park kill the battery but I'm sure he would have caught that.
@jamesyounce4141 Жыл бұрын
@@PhillipBailey it does have a rear wiper blade, but it works perfectly. No issues with it.

@@PhillipBailey hi I want to thank you for your help as well it’s much appreciated and also, is there a way to test the alternator at home to see if there is something going on with it or is it something that mechanic has to do or is it possible that like an AutoZone or auto shop Place could do if I remove it and take it someplaceor does it have to be on the vehicle? Again thank you very much for helping me out.

My 2012 Journey (2.4L fwd) has been going into battery saver mode within 2 minutes of me driving and cutting off my ability to use my radio. I’ve changed fuses and I don’t have the hands free module just audio controls like volume and track skip. My lights started dimming last night and I have no clue the cause. Alternator is fine, battery should be ok and I’ve checked all the mains fuses I think it could’ve been. Any ideas? I’d bring it to you but that’s half across the country

What is the measured voltage at the battery when this happens? Charging system should be running between 13.5 and 14.7volts. You say the charging system is fine but how did you test it?

I have a 2015 journey crossroad with a 2.4l. Had a dead battery and I ended up replacing the battery and alternator. About 2 months later the battery is dead again. I get 0.00 amps parasitic draw and alternator is putting out 14.5 volts. Any idea of what the culprit could be?
@PhillipBailey11 ай бұрын
How are you measuring 0.00 amps? Are you sure your fuse is not blown in your meter? Try opening a door to turn on interior lights. If they don't turn on your fuse is blow. You should measure something like 0.02A. You are testing for less than 0.05A or 50mA. If you're using the mA port on your meter I guarantee the fuse is blown.
@bosweat7511 ай бұрын
@@PhillipBailey it will measure a lot until the car goes to sleep. I don't remember the exact measurement but after the car goes to sleep it measures 0.00 until I open the door or something. No parasitic drain but the battery still does.

@bosweat75 have the battery tested or something is intermittently coming on and your not catching it.

I also have a dodge ..2013 dodge avanger and i noticed my ac turn knobs were flickering when the car was off . I stayed inside the car locked it and waited and my ac turn knobs were still flicking.. radio and dash are completely off and only the factory alarm light is running

I'm not sure what the issue is with that. How long does it continue to do that? What kind of draw do you have?

What happens when i disable the 131 HFM fuse, on the journey?
@PhillipBailey Жыл бұрын
As far as I can tell it simply disables the Hands Free Module.
@tgoodm12 жыл бұрын
Phillip…what is your method for determining whether a module requires programming or is “plug and play”? Thanks!!!
@PhillipBailey2 жыл бұрын
I usually research the manufacturers replacement procedure. That usually refers to the required module programming. Unfortunately there are different levels of programming though. Some will require a subscription to the manufacturer service programming and the use of a pass-through and some only need configuration of the module which can often be done with a capable scanner. The diagnostic network is a good resource if you are unsure. And then there's the use of used modules which adds further complications. Hope this helps you.

good find. those parasitic draws can be tough and time consuming and without wiring diagrams almost impossible.

Amazing video, sir! I have the same exact car with the same problem. I was wondering if i need to go buy a multimeter and check those fuses one by one, and should i also just leave that HFM fuse disconnected if it happens to be the problem or replace it?
@PhillipBailey Жыл бұрын
If you don't use the hands free with your phone I'd just leave the fuse out. Everything else should work fine.

I have issues with our journey , we bought a new battery even though the MVP said good. It always slips into battery saver mode we also bought the BCS for the negative post nothing changed . We also tested a light unto the Alternator . Its weird no lights come on at all . Could be the problem. And whats the most upsetting is paying for this and i cannot drive it and the dealership refuses to help in anyway
@PhillipBailey Жыл бұрын
There are many possible causes for a parasitic draw. Most will not set any codes in any computers. You need to find a reputable technician to diagnose the problem. I'm afraid there's no silver bullet usually.
@joroset1491 Жыл бұрын
@Phillip Bailey yes I'm going to see the mechanic today to get him to hook it up . Fingers crossed we find the real problem

Yes, but if you know what you're looking at, the modern modules/computers feed you many more clues than they did from 1980-2010(ish)
