About 2012 Exsence DC brakes: Min-Max: Standard brake for PE. F (Fluoro): Apply stronger brake at the first cast. BB (Big Bait): Apply Stronger brake all the way of the cast. SP: Apply stronger brake at the end of the cast.

@@THEREELTEST Nice test on this Older but sweet DC Reel! 👍🏻.....Just one ? for you on this 12 Exsence do you know for sure if this has a, (Aluminum Handle Side - Sideplate) too?.....As I looked up some of the specs from an older but still available listing on Japan Tackle for this exact reel and although it's listed as having a (Saltwater Tough) Aluminum Frame it doesn't mention anything about the (Handle Sideplate) being aluminum as well too so I was just curious if you knew for sure on that from personally having this reel?....As would like to pick up one of these used for Light Inshore use but just want to make sure it has the strength to handle it that's all....Thx, JD

Scorpion 1500 was a good reel but this Exsence is special

Pull the trigger and pick one up. Don’t go for the cheapest you find on eBay either. Take your time and find that is really good cosmetically you’ll be happier with your purchase. That’s the story why I have two. Don’t shy away from auctions with option of best offer, usually $30-35 less than asking gets it done(cost of shipping + $10 savings)

Scorpion DC is better in my opinion. the brakes are better but everything else is close

The curado is fantastic. I have both. Love both. Scorpion might be a better caster but the curado with brass gear is so smooth and strong. Plus you get American warranty if anything happens to it. Counts for a lot when you spend this much on a reel. Don't sweat it man you picked a great reel.

Exsence dc or scorpion dc better? Is one better for fresh or salt? I have a scorpion dc and it’s great. I use it both fresh and saltwater. I’m considering getting another until seeing this. Looks like it would be a good addition to my saltwater line up.

The grooves arent for when filling it w/line...Theyre for knowing how much line is on the spool when its emptying/paying out line - aka fighting a long running fish.
