Great job on the review! Very articulate and well-spoken. My wife had a 2002 Escape with the V6, which was a good vehicle for many years. The 4WD system was great in snow and mud, although the ground clearance from the independent rear suspension wasn't great, not that I ever took it off-road. I just remember it seeming too little clearance to get over a tall curb, for example. We both enjoyed driving it for the most part. I had forgotten about it being touchy at low speed, but you're absolutely right. Now, probably 15 years later and shopping for a car, I really appreciate the simplicity of older cars. Sometimes it really feels like newer cars are far too complicated and just aren't built to be run for more than 10 years at most. That said, I still don't think I would want to drive one now, but thanks for the nostalgia!

I appreciate you watching Eric, thank you for the kind words! It’s only in certain instances where I noticed the transmission being a little touchy. It wasn’t all the time, but it is something to note because there are some times where you notice it happening. I still think the 2008-2012 Escape is a great option for anyone, this generation of Ford was built to last, much better than the quality of the new ones in my opinion. Not to mention like you said, the simplicity inside is very refreshing. Thank you again for watching!

@CEALLIFORNIA4 ай бұрын
Honestly it’s hard to give an estimate as rust progression varies from car to car, but I would say hopefully it wouldn’t be more than $1000-$1500 to have both sides fixed if they needed it, that is if the rust is not that bad and sort of just starting to develop. It could be less though, haven’t gotten body work quoted in quite some time, but I know it’s never cheap because of the labor. If you are looking to buy one that has rust on the rocker panels, if it’s really bad just don’t buy it. because it's an amazing car and this generation are best Escapes ever. Much better then the ugly "Kuga" that replaced it. 4Cyl is reliable and very simple with soo much space when you need to access anything in the engine compartment! This is the last generation of real cars, equipped with pretty much everything you need and not plagued by any of the downsizing (which results in less reliable overly complicated weak engines with often much the same fuel efficiency), nonsensically oversized display and other pointless things in cars these days.
@CEALLIFORNIAАй бұрын
You’re 100% right, all this downsizing and turbo charging of engines and yet year after year I don’t see any massive changes in MPG, if at all like you said. Plus, like you mentioned, these engines that have been down sized and turbocharged often have more issues. I wish this Escape still existed, really was the last of the real cars. Thank you for watching!

My daughter a 2012 with only 80k miles. 2.5. It’s a good size, but man it’s slow. Also it suffers from the rust problem in the metal over the rear back wheels. It’s common. We had new medal welded in. And at the last inspection our mechanic said the frame is starting to rust. My 2010 RAV4 V6 with 191k miles is a better car even though it has 100k more miles.. We hope to get a few more years out of the Escape.
@CEALLIFORNIA4 ай бұрын
The 2.5L certainly is no speed demon, but it has been known to be pretty reliable, so I kind of accepted the lackluster performance for that fact alone. 😂 The rusting metal over the rear wheels is what led me to finally selling mine, that and I was looking to upgrade to a truck. I try to keep whatever I have looking in tip top shape, so I couldn’t bear to see the rust. I heard the rust on the frame was an issue with these too, and the motor mounts eventually rusting out as well, but then again that happened on Honda Civics around the same year range too as well. The northeast is a cruel, cruel place to our cars. I hope the Escape delivers you a few more good years of service, thank you for watching!

I have a 2011 3.0L. The quality of this model is below average. Definitely worse than GM and Toyota that I owned. 1. Every Escape/Mariner I see in new England, including mine, developed rust along rear wheel well and lower lip of lift gate. It rots from inside so you cannot sand and paint it. 2. My muffler and resonator rattled at 5-y old/70K due to rust. 3. Many windshield washer tubes cracked and leaked near joints. 4. The D-shape linkage behind ignition key cylinder cracked. When you turn key, the internal parts just don't turn enough angle to start engine. There are many cheap ebay/amazon aftermarket ignition assembly, indicating this is very common problem. 5. Fuel pump (OE pump made by Bosch) made louder and louder noise so I replaced it before it fails. 6. My 3.0L developed oil leak at rear edge of timing cover at 100k. Started dripping on floor. I took 2 days to replace the timing cover gasket. Found all gaskets (valve cover, timing cover, oil pan) were hard and brittle. And what if you have 2.5L? As soon as you remove the balancer you are in big trouble, because the crank shaft is not keyed! A friction ring keeps your parts in time. Good car if you are good at DIY. It's simple without GDI or turbo. You will find many repair videos on YT, as well as cheap parts, because these problems are so prevalent. I agree they are better than 2013+ Escape.

That rust is definitely no joke. Have to travel out of state most times to find one without rust. Just found this one without rust down in North Carolina. It’s as clean as can be, even checked the undercarriage. But owning these in the northeast or anywhere in the rust belt can be a struggle. I’m sorry you didn’t have the best luck with the 3.0L, I really did like my 2.5L and the 2.5L has been good in this one shown here too. Thank you for watching!

Less than half the resale value as a 2012 Rav4 and has countless quality issues from catalytic to transmission. Mother in laws had some miles on it, but had to have both engine and transmission replaced on it. Check engine light stayed on regardless of any maint.?
@CEALLIFORNIA7 ай бұрын
It is about 25-35% less expensive than it's RAV4 counterpart and I think that makes it an even better deal I think because this did have some better tech than the RAV4 too. Between my own experience and now two others close to me, I4 and V6 models alike, we've all had great luck with our 2008-2012 Ford Escape's. I'd still buy another one to this day as a daily if I had the garage space. It really depends on if your Escape was built on a Wednesday or a Friday. It's all luck of the draw when you buy any car really. Thank you for watching!
