2012 Honda Civic- Air Intake Hose causing Sputtering - Hesitation Under Acceleration (Fixed)

I’ve noticed a slight hesitation in first gear when taking off the past few weeks and I’ve been trying to figure out why. yesterday when I took off it straight up lost all acceleration and stuttered hard. I saw your video, went out and checked it and sure enough it’s split right open. Much appreciated.

Well done. My 2012 Civic same problem. Getting the air box was the biggest PITA.

I just used crazy glue to join the crack and used rtv silicone on top to hold the crack. worked. Didnt have to disassemble anything. And the job was complete in 5 mins . However i had to leave the rtv to cure for 24 hrs.

I have my car in the shop right now for the same issue and let the service tech know. sent this information to him. I've had this issue for the life of the car. It was only after I changed the air filter two weeks ago that it got so bad the engine would stop, catch its breath and restart. Now I know it's not too little air but unmetered air.

Also check the lower motor mount. Mine was broken leading to excessive movement when the motor is under load to move.

Changed mine but car still bucking. Do i have to change the MAF or service the throttle

Could be a number of things. Was the intake hose torn and that's why you replaced it? The MAF can cause bucking, but so can many other things including one that gets overlooked all the time and that is spark plugs. Depending on how many miles on your car, the spark plugs are only good for around 100 - 150K miles before the electrodes are worn and the gap is too large. This often gets overlooked. Is it throwing any codes, is the check engine light on? Might be good to check the codes if the engine light is on. Good luck!

@Roybwatchin Hey thanks for your reply, it was actually my sparkplugs. My intake hose was torn actually so i had to replace that. But my sparkplugs i got from Autozone just 3 months ago went kaput on me. I actually didn't look there initially because i had changed them a few months ago. But i got new ones and everything is fine now.

If there is a check engine light on the dash, you can get the codes read at a parts store like O'reily or Autozone. If no check engine light, then I would check spark plugs first, especially if they have more than 125K miles on them. If those are good, I would clean the Mass Air Flow sensor. If it is neither of those, then it could be a lot of other things such as O2 Sensor, or Coolant Temp Sensor, but hopefully there are trouble codes stored in the engine computer. Dorman is a joke! I got it last time thinking it's gonna be better and guess what? It's cracked again 😒 This time I think I'm going to replace it with a honda genuine hose.

Yeah, I was a little worried about it since it was so cheap but mine is still holding up. I may end up having to replace it and if I do, I will definitely go back with a factory OEM hose. Thanks for the feedback.

@@Roybwatchin from the little research that I did, I see that this issue is kind of common among civics of this model and quite repetitive (in my case at least), I'm wondering if there's some kind of rubber "conditioner" that can be applied to the air intake hose before installing it that would prevent it from cracking or in the best case scenario prolong it's life? I think the culprit is it being near the throttle body and it just can't withstand the heat.

@@saad.485 I have wondered if the engine mounts could be worn enough to let the engine rock backwards every time you accelerate? If my tube wears out quickly, I will pop the hood and have my son put it in gear and gas the throttle while in drive with his foot on the brake. If the engine moves a lot, I will investigate the engine mounts. But, so far, mine is still holding up!

@@Roybwatchinengine mounts and prolong heat due to summers make the hose wear overtime. The passenger side top mount is another tear and wear mount and common in civics.
