I am a "shade tree" mechanic. For those of you who do not know what that means, it is this. I try to fix my own things and I AM NOT a mechanic. It refers to someone in their backyard under the shade of a tree working on their own things. So the phrase was coined for all us do it yourselfers. This video will be crucial for me as i try to replace my own converter. Thank you for making it.

Excellent video shots! My mechanic replaced our Jeep Patriot exhaust manifold/Cat and it solved our pesky 420 code; however, less than 48 hrs afterward, our AC quit working. From your video it looks possible one could damage the refrigerant lines if they were tired, angry, or let something slip. I thank God for guys like you who have the patience to do this. I was told by my shop's manager that my mechanic let a lot of 4 letter words fly on this job, now i see why. I sure miss the older cars 1970s where you could access most components without dismantling 1/4 of the engine compartment to get to what you want to inspect.

Job Well done. Saved me 3k+. I did not remove the Heater hose. What I did was Tie the hose off to the side of the Hood Hinge. this allowed the hoses to be out of the way and did not get the spillage of Antifreeze. The other thing was that one of the lower bots tend to siege or get real tight halfway out. What I did was go back 3 turns and forward 4 turns add penetrating fluid until the bolt was free. Great Video. Thanks.

Hey I'm back in the comments section, I have this same 2012 Jeep Patriot 2.4L 4WD. I must have an exhaust leak coming from the manifold or elsewhere because there's a thumping/tapping noise that is common with exhaust leaks. It started when I had been trying to use fuel intake cleaner but I was using the tiptronic gear speeds and revving high rpms excessively in different gears. Must've made the manifold too hot or something, ever since then I believe I got an exhaust leak. Going to have to address this soon because the tapping noise is so annoying. Thanks for the video

Haven't done one yet was contemplating taking on this job in my experience when dealing with Chrysler products removing the front motor mount and the rear motor mount located behind the bumper attached to the lower core support would allow the engine to rotate forward and allow it to drop further down out of the car giving more than enough room without removing heater hoses and valve cover I haven't done one yet but if I do that would be my path to least resistance I really thought that's where this video was headed

So stoked to put this video up! I’m sitting here right now working on mine, and I have a quick question. When you put the gasket on the exhaust manifold, were you able to put some sealant on it to keep it in place while you were bolting it back on, or did you need an extra set of hands. Thought I might ask that before I go any further since I’m by myself atm. Thank you

Keep heating them. Sometimes It takes a few heating up cycles to get them loose. Once they start moving plenty of penetrating oil. Good luck.
