Changing the key fob battery did not solve your problem. It was just a coincidence that it started. If your car is cranking, both the key fob battery and the car battery are good. You cannot diagnose via the check engine light unless the car starts. You would need an OBD II reader to diagnose with the car not starting. The check engine light probably came on (or will come on shortly) after it started which will probably indicate a camshaft or crankshaft position sensor issue. If it never starts, it could be a timing belt (or chain) issue which is unlikely with the few miles on your odometer.
